I understand why it matters to a lot of people, but I guess I'm that odd person who, as a gay man, never felt the need to be represented onscreen. Still don't. I also understand I had the luxury of growing up in an environment where I was free to feel comfortable in my own skin, so I guess I just never went looking for that kind of validation because I was already confident in who and what I was to begin with. In fact I kind of didn't want to see other people like me because it probably would have broken the illusion I was special.

Some people, like me, simply don't know how to join these conversations. While I objectively know these are real problems, I've always had a difficult time being asked to feel outrage on behalf of someone else, and feel no inclination to make it a crusade. I sincerely hope positive change happens, but as cold as it might sound, am aware enough of my own privilege to know my life will go on the same if it doesn't. Just being honest.

I got laid off in April from my job of 15 years. My first job out of school. So I feel you. Between that and unemployment taking about 10 weeks to finally kick in this has been the most anxiety ridden period of my life and lost 15 pounds because I could hardly keep anything down, my nerves were so bad. I've casually looked, applied, and been turned down for a few jobs here and there, but honestly I'm not quite ready to step out into the world again just yet. Some small part of me is holding out hope I will be hired back when, and if, they reopen in the fall, but we'll see. Good luck to you!

I'm gay and a registered Democrat, though I have some conservative leanings. I'm very socially liberal, for instance, but I think Republicans are much better with money and the actual running of a government. I'm also an Arizonan and see firsthand every day the need for immigration reform, whether it be a wall or something else, but heaven forbid you say so out loud because then you're "racist." It sucks that political candidates on both sides tend to be so extreme, because people like me who tend to view things a little more objectively and are willing to meet in the middle, are forced to be grouped under one umbrella or the other and sacrifice some of our values.

I'm fairly apolitical and tend to avoid these kinds of conversations, but it's disheartening how crazily people are reacting to fairly simple directives. Open, don't open, I don't care. It costs nothing to be cautious and considerate.

TopicDo you believe in the "they" gender pronoun
PsychicHippo

As a gay man it may surprise some to learn I take some issue with this. On one hand I hold the sentiment that we are all universal, multidimensional beings who arent meant to be reduced to labels and confined in boxes. From a philosophical standpoint this make sense to me. But with that said, from a practical standpoint, by asserting that you are sometimes a he, sometimes a she, or neither, or both, and identifying yourself with the pronoun they and demanding others do the same, still suggests an air of ego. Obviously its OK to be different, but must we constantly scream to the world, Look at me and how different I am? Like I said earlier, Im gay, but frankly without some of what we think of as heteronormative guidelines or societal boundaries in place things can get pretty confusing, if not outright ridiculous once you start thinking you're special.

PsychicHippo

Since Ive been married Ive noticed a slight uptick in people asking if we are ever planning on having children. No, were not, but heres the thing. It isnt just a simple oh, I hate kids, because I really dont. In fact they can be rather fascinating little creatures, many wise beyond their years. Nor is it about lack of sleep or money spent or anything that shallow. The truth is they simply dont bring me joy on a soul level. I know a lot of people love the idea of creating this little life and nurturing it and watching it grow, and thats great for them if thats what they want, but it just doesnt do anything for me. I dont possess those instincts. Unfortunately, saying so in todays world will quickly get you labeled as some sort of villain, but I like to think Im mature and self-aware enough to know fatherhood isnt for me. I suspect a lot of people probably feel the same way but cave in to societal pressure and the image of what a family is supposed to look like. But family takes many forms and at the end of the day its all about love, and whether that love is shared between two people or five or ten shouldnt really be up for judgment.

I'm a guy and suffer from the same problem, always have. I happened to marry an esthetician who has supplied me with various products to try over the last few years but improvement over such long periods of use is minimal. My one recommendation would be to try and find something with retinol in it. It won't be cheap, you may have to go to a professional spa or dermatologist, but might be worth splurging once just to see how your skin reacts to it.

I don't think anyone thinks it's sexist, but some people do think it's overstepping boundaries. I'm a male with resting bitch face and am subject to such comments sometimes. I'm not offended, but I know what works for me and smiling simply doesn't. I don't have an attractive happy face....even as a kid my mom would tell me on picture day at school to be sure not to smile, lol. Anyway, doesn't meant I'm unhappy or anything, but I guess I can understand how I'd come off a certain way if you're meeting me for the first time.

I just rewatched the series on DVD and kind of thought the opposite. Yes, she does gain some weight in the final seasons but I wouldn't say that disqualifies her being attractive

Also, psychic has become kind of a bastardized word which conjures images of shawl-clad, middle-aged women hovering over crystal balls portending to see the future. Really it's more about being in tune with energetic imprints, either of other living people, places, objects, or the spirit world. Personally I'm a medium. But I have yet to meet someone who can legit see the future with what I would call fair accuracy.
