It's not that I think Harry Potter is for kids, I just don't think it has aged particularly well. I LOVED the books and movies at the time - I'm 36 now - but I've gone back to them a couple times in recent years and it's kind of tough to get through. I have several 20-something co-workers who are absolutely nuts about that universe, though, and all I ever hear about is how they want dark mark tattoos and such. I'm like, you're gonna regret that, lol...

TopicWhich is better in games: questionable representation or no representation?
PsychicHippo
12/27/18 12:42:20 PM

Well, there's diversity in gameplay and game design and then there's diversity with the intention of reflecting real life, and I'm not honestly sure if they are comparable. In a fighting game, for example, you don't want a dozen fighters that all look the same, so of course you would give them each different weapons, abilities, and physical characteristics to keep the game fun and fresh.

Now, simply saying a character is gay, for example, when it has no bearing on the story, or going out of your way to mention that it includes six black characters in its marketing campaign, is terribly pandering, and I say that as a liberal. As a gay man myself I can't honestly say I ever felt the need to be "represented" in media, whether it be games or TV or otherwise because I'm secure with myself in real life and feel there are a dozen more interesting things to define me before my sexuality. Social justice warriorism is completely out of control, so for the sake of your poll I have to vote "no representation" as the better option.

I'm seeing a lot of people posting about how tough this year was for them and how glad they will be to see it end. But honestly, looking back, 2018 was pretty good to me. First of all I got married, which is something I never in a million years thought I would do. That my romantic partner also happens to be my best friend is a rare gift which I thank the universe for every day. It is also the first calendar year in about four during which I did not need a surgery, a treatment, or some other bank account-draining medical procedure. In fact, I am officially cancer free one year this month. I exercised my creative endeavors by writing another book about my paranormal passions (which will be published in the spring) and, of course, am thankful for the continuous everyday comforts of a house, car, job, and cupboard full of food. Not that the year wasn't without its challenges or tears, but the fact is we came out of it in one piece and I think that's pretty neat.

Maybe not everyone becomes a ghost. Maybe some of those ghosts felt it was best to move on instead of stay around and haunt people - especially people who weren't alive at the time of those acts. Etc.

Honestly you don't really get to "choose" if you want to be a ghost. When we die there's a certain process of transitioning somewhere else - the other side or heaven or whatever you want to call it - like being reborn in a way, which can take varying lengths of time. You often hear of spirits present at their own funerals, while I can think of a few personal examples of when it took a couple years in earth time for them to fully transition. Anyway, it's when this "rebirth" process is disrupted for one reason or another that results in an earthbound spirit. As I was saying in another post, very few seem to be aware that they are actually ARE ghosts. I know it sounds like it'd be really fun to be a ghost and make the walls ooze blood and stuff, but it really does strike me as an incredibly lonely existence.

Im a clairvoyant, meaning I sense, see, and sometimes communicate with spiritual energies.

How do you communicate exactly?

Sometimes information will translate as a picture in my mind, or it may play out like a little movie or scene, and other times I straight up see people walking through walls and whatnot with my own eyes.In cases where there is back and forth communication taking place it is almost always telepathic. (Yes, I know how nuts this sounds., lol.)

Is it reliable though?

If it is, take the randi challenge and get a million dollars.

Or do you get things wrong alot? Talking about the information of event details.

Well, it doesn't quite work like that. I don't make claims of seeing the future, telling you who you are going to marry, or pulling the winning lottery numbers out of thin air. My ability is strictly clairvoyance and mediumship, and I guess you could say my track record is fair with my clients. It really just depends on how much those on the other side - or those stuck on this one - WANT to talk, or can, making it very difficult to "prove" on the spot.

Im a clairvoyant, meaning I sense, see, and sometimes communicate with spiritual energies. In my experience the vast majority of them have no idea where they are or who I am or even that I am there with them. It would take a ghost with an enormous capacity for harboring energy to engage in an act of sexuality, assuming they even possess enough sentience to even want to. (Decision making is not their forte.) Even then it probably would't play out as a physical experience.Their essence would probably just fuse with yours resulting in euphoric sensation comparable to what we experience during sex.

I disagree about Dexter. I enjoyed all the books in the series, to varying degrees, but found the TV show beyond tedious. It's the type of show where you could watch the first episode of a season and the last episode of a season and not miss anything in between. I did enjoy John Lithgow's stint, but gave up after that.

To answer the original question, I think American Psycho made a better movie than book.

Also, just about any movie adapted from a Stephen King novel is almost guaranteed to be better than its source material.
