Dumb stories are less annoying to me because I have lower expectations for wrestling as a whole at this point due to not caring about it as much anymore (and I don't actually follow super closely so I don't end up sitting through every shit segment anyway). Meanwhile things that make it harder to buy into pro wrestling play into my feelings that maybe I just don't like the medium itself. So a bigger wrestling fan is willing to let fundamental stuff like the rules slide because they're still invested in the genre but individual stories piss them off for producing shitty segments, while I'm less bothered by shit segments since I have lower expectations but the fundamental stuff pushes me away from the medium as a whole and I'm not willing to engage in the suspension of disbelief that pro wrestling requires. --- Meow! |

No single, mostly self-contained story can ever be *that* bad even if it's the worst story ever (and as bad as this one is, I've seen worse in wrestling). The rest of the show isn't affected by it, whereas if the refs are portrayed as having no power, it actively hurts every other match on the show where we're supposed to buy into the idea that they do. --- Meow! |

Why would ref bumps and distractions even exist if it was totally normal for refs to just ignore everything anyway? Those things happen because wrestling companies usually try to keep up the illusion of their matches being real in-universe. NBIceman posted... I've been as harsh an AEW critic as anyone here but if you honestly think anything about them is worse than the Fiend or Rusev/Lana I don't know what to tell you. Rusev/Lana/Lashley is just a stupid storyline. Not trying to make your matches look like they're legit even from a kayfabe standpoint actively undermines the entire concept of being invested in the show. --- Meow! |

There was a recent match where Orange Cassidy climbed into the ring and had a twenty second staredown with Moxley for no reason while the ref just kind of sadly waved at him before giving up, well aware of his own uselessness. Tag matches where guys run into the ring whenever they feel like and you can't even pretend it's because they use unconventional rules because the other team doesn't do it *and* the commentators talk about how the ref needs to do something about it *and* the ref will yell at them about it...before just giving up. People shit on Rollins/Fiend in the Cell (for good reason) for how the finish undermines the entire concept of a Cell match, but having the referees be totally powerless to enforce the rules undermines the entire concept of any match. --- Meow! |

Black Mages are the best magical attacker, other magic jobs can't use their own abilities quite as well as Black Mage can. Element boosting equipment + basic summons also tends to be stronger than the stronger summon magic, though unlike in vanilla you do actually eventually probably want Short Charge here since summons are a lot slower than they were in the original game. Element guns are also available from more than just plot battles, you can find them in the bonus dungeon and there's a random battle that can spawn enemies with any of the rare guns (actually I think a few places can produce random enemies with rare guns at high level, but there's one specific place that has a rare battle consisting of nothing but gun-using enemies who tend to have the good stuff) --- Meow! |

Black Mage will always give you the highest MA while IIRC Dragoon is the lowest? Samurai is pretty low as well. So leveling up in a class like Samurai doesn't hurt your MA in the long run but it does have much less firepower with its own abilities than the magic oriented classes do, or something like Geomancer which is probably the best "when in doubt put Ramza in it" class because its stats are good all around and it gets the best equipment options, so you can make it work for any mix of physical and magical stuff you want (not to mention its class abilities being pretty fun when you get lucky with the status effects). --- Meow! |
