I'm in a weird place rn, started listening to a band called Hem but I think I only like a couple of their songs.

I started listening to this band called the Weepies last year, they're kinda in flux rn because I listened to them too much but I can't find a band that reaches the same standard.

They vary between songs like these that are really stripped down and simple, like the bare essentials of a song, and these really chill, glossy tunes that pull out all the stops. I really like their music, and I hope they put out a new album in the next couple of years.

If you like Scrubs, you might recognise their song "World Spins Madly On" from the deja vu episode where JD's plot with the janitor is identical to an earlier episode - the riddle about making change where one of them isn't a nickel.

Oh my god, I finally got a waifu character! I managed to get my name in the running with Proofpyro's original list, which all got scrapped when he got burnt out. Then I managed to get on the second list, where he burnt out again. I feel like I've spent months on this list, and close to 2 years since the original list.

I heard a while back that a good way to get electrolytes as a trans woman is to snack on pickles and/or try drinking the brine. You lose a lot of electrolytes through peeing, and because pickle brine is high in salt, it can help you retain electrolytes and minerals and stuff.

I'm not a trans woman, and I'm commenting on something I heard a while ago so it might not be as accurate as I would like. I am saying it in good faith though - it might be something worth looking into.

I know TC isn't here to defend himself, but I want to raise a point against his deflection schtick.

Yes, the US has detainment facilities in which immigrants are treated inhumanely. Approximately 500 children are lost in the system because they were separated from their parents who were then deported. ICE distributes misleading literature in Spanish to try and ensnare immigrants whose stronger language is Spanish. There are reports of forced hysterectomies, and of ICE retaliating against prisoners who spoke up about squalid conditions in these facilities by making them wipe down surfaces with caustic chemicals without appropriate PPE or ventilation. Let's not get it twisted - America has some fucked up detainment facilities. And that's only talking about immigration - the practice of prison labor is fucked up too.

So we're on the same page. America has inhumane detainment facilities, and that's worth addressing.

How the fuck does that invalidate claims of China's re-education camps? Facilities where Uighur Chinese people are broken down over the course of months, where deviation from the "lesson" - whether it be sitting in silence or repeating propaganda for hours at a time - involves being taken away and never seen again? Where "deviation" is collapsing from exhaustion or coughing because you're sick? What about being interrogated for hours at a time, made to praise the CCP and to confess to false crimes after years of detainment and brainwashing?

What about those facilities who reach out to Uighurs abroad, asking them to return to China alone to settle debts, before throwing them in jail for years on trumped up charges?

Those facilities exist. The CCP has a long history of detaining political prisoners for years on end without a trial, reaching them in other countries claiming they have outstanding business so they have an excuse to entrap them. And they have a history of interrogations that go for days on end, as well as torture. Academics, pro-democracy protestors - thrown in jail for YEARS and subjected to these inhumane practices.

And for over a decade, the CCP has been throwing a religious minority into these camps to be subjected to all of this - as well as forced sterilization, forced labor and forced organ transplants.

America has inhumane detainment facilities. So does China. You can criticize both - both can exist at the same time. And yeah, it's dumb as fuck when your redneck dipshits call it "unamerican" to criticize human rights violations being perpetuated by the United States - just like it's fucking moronic to shout "sinophobia" about China's detainment facilities, and their decades of human rights violations.

It's not one or the other, TC. Both exist. Both are bad. Both can be criticized in the same breath, and they can be focused on individually for the things they individually do terribly. That doesn't make us hypocrites, and it doesn't wash the blood off of Xi Jinping's hands. Fuck him, fuck the CCP and fuck anyone who denies the existence of those camps. The people of China, majority and minority populations alike, deserve better than the scum that heads their government.

Nintendo has the biggest wealth of IPs of any game company out there, and all they have to show us is fucking Mario Golf and Skyward Sword HD? They'll sit on IPs that people love for years, sometimes decades, doing nothing with them, but wont allow fans to enjoy them via their own creations. It's truly mind boggling

Combativeness aside - I genuinely love Mario Golf, and I'm really looking forward to this new one. It's not a huge disappointment to everyone because you personally don't like Mario Golf, TC.

Secondly, this direct also had Zelda, Splatoon and Monster Hunter. While I agree that IPs like F-Zero, Metroid and Donkey Kong don't see as much screentime as other Nintendo IPs, it wasn't as huge of a waste as you seem to think.

Lastly, you're really stretching in your list of IPs. Game and Watch stuff has been relegated to Wario microgames for decades at best - and they dusted the IP off for a physical Super Mario Bros. collectible system just recently. Chibi Robo has like three games, and the only one that most fans seem to like was from Nintendo's least profitable era of gaming. I don't think it's even an in-house IP. The last time they announced a DK game, people were pissed it wasn't Metroid. There was no way, short of announcing a new game in every fan favorite franchise, that this direct (or any other) was going to meet fan expectations.

More proof that we have enough food to go around, most of it just gets wasted.

"but they have to worry about liability!" - these people are eating trash. Once it hits the dumpster, it shouldn't be the store's problem any more. That's why dumpster divers started dumpster diving - to make use of perfectly fine food or products that were being thrown away, to get use out of something deemed useless and without worth. If nothing else, to roll the dice to see if they can prevent unnecessary waste.

Now it's not even a grey area to take something deemed trash. Electronics are smashed so no-one can use them, even if they're perfectly fine. Clothes are cut into ribbons. Dumpsters are padlocked so no-one can get into them. Dumpster diving went from being a grey area to being outright criminalized.

This store wasn't getting any use out of that food. Granted, the food was at risk of being spoiled. But once they throw it out, they shouldn't have any say in what happens to it. They don't benefit from it in any way whether someone takes it out of a dumpster or whether it's taken to the dump. And in return, they shouldn't be considered liable for any misfortune that comes from someone eating some spoiled meat out of a dumpster.

It's a better arrangement than pouring bleach over salvageable food to deter people, or from calling the fucking police to defend a dumpster of viable food that they deemed worthless by disposing of it.

I don't mind Hope's arc in Final Fantasy 13. It's been a while, but isn't one of the main complaints that Hope tries to stab Snow after he saves them both from the cops or whatever? Hate doesn't disappear because someone does you a solid. It doesn't matter if the person you hate doesn't realise or understand why you hate them. The pain Hope felt over his mother's death led to a desire to kill Snow for it, and it took time for him to mature and look past that.

I think Hope was realistic in that sense. He didn't comprehend that his mother gave her life to the cause, and he attributed blame to Snow in response. He should have known better, but he didn't because he was a traumatised kid who watched his mother die. After being validated by Lightning - and subsequently trying to get talked out of it by Lightning once she had her own character growth - Hope steeled himself to kill Snow out of hate. I don't think that's as cringe as everyone makes it out to be.

Pyra was an interesting choice for Smash. I haven't played Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but the trailer looked nice and I think she has a lot of character. Couldn't be happier that it wasn't Geno, lmao

I'm curious about what No More Heroes fans think of the third game having aliens. Suda games are all pretty weird, so I imagine most folks are like "sweet, more weirdness", but still.

I fucking love Mario Golf. This new game looks great, I love how the new Speed Golf game mode looks. I love that you can use your Miis and level them up. It looks like a great golf game, and I'm going to be picking this one up.

Those Famicom mystery games look pretty cool. Interesting retro throwback. I'm also interested in that game by the Danganronpa devs - it looks cute, but I feel like it's gonna be pretty fucked up in places too.

I dunno if anyone's raging about the Capcom arcade game being a DLC fest, because they did the same thing on PS3. They give you a game for free and you have to buy the rest. If anyone thought they were getting a slew of old games for free, that's on them.

Ninja Gaiden collection is cool. I like that Hyrule Warriors is getting DLC, hopefully it'll be comparable to the first Hyrule Warriors game in time. I wanna beat the first one and then move onto a version of Age of Calamity with comparable content. I understand that the first game has a fuckton of content, and that for Age of Calamity to have that amount of content is kind of ridiculous, but if there's still an impressive amount of content to sink my teeth into - comparable, not exactly equal - I'm going to be a very happy camper. Unless Persona 5 Strikers burns me out on Musou games.

What's the deal with that Stubbs the Zombie game? I kinda wanna buy it and share it with one of my friends, it seems really quirky and fun.

Interesting choice to port Legend of Mana and SaGa Frontier. It really is the age of PS1 ports and remasters. Not a fan of these types of action RPGs, but Frontier looks cool and I'd love to play it if it has more turn-based combat instead of real-time stuff like the Mana games.

My understanding is that people take issue with Skyward Sword's waggle controls. With them adding a controller option, you would think that people would have died down about the game a little bit. But people are still up in arms about it being the worst Zelda game. What's especially funny is that rumours have been flying around since last year, and people have been going "Skyward Sword when" - now it's announced, people are acting like this was a deliberate act of malice designed to blindside Zelda fans expecting BOTW2 news.

Honestly, since it has a control scheme that doesn't rely on motion controls, I'm more likely to give Skyward Sword a go. The character design can be pretty ugly, as is custom for a lot of 3D Zelda games (TP's muscle baby being a prime example), but I love how the scenery looks and I love that soft bloom that everything has. I don't know if I'm gonna get it, but I would think that this would be the same sort of redemption that Twilight Princess got. Like let's face it, even though Link is especially ugly in this game, the designs for Fi, Ghirahim and proto-Ganondorf fuck hard. The scenery looks gorgeous. I hope this prompts people to re-evaluate Skyward Sword, especially in regards to the seeds it planted that sprouted in BotW.

And also - Eiji Nomura said that BotW2 news should be coming down the pipeline this year. That's progress. I understand Zelda games tend to get delayed a lot, Skyward Sword and BotW took years to come out, but I'm holding out hope for BotW2 news. They haven't mentioned it at all since the teaser trailer, and Nomura addressed it directly in this Direct. I feel secure in saying that we'll be hearing about Breath of the Wild 2 by the end of the year.

That being said, I'm a newly minted Zelda fan who's not used to the Zelda cycle, so take my optimism with a grain of salt.

It's been 2 months since I had a drink. I was bemoaning my sobriety like three days ago, but everything seemed to click into place and I feel like I can be okay without alcohol now.

There are three things that have led to everything clicking.

* I've been re-evaluating my relationships after an amicable rejection. The woman I confessed to is a friend of mine and she means a lot to me, so I wanted to get back to a place of normalcy by re-establishing our friendship in my mind and getting back to the root of why I like being around her. But during this process, I started thinking about how I feel around my best friend, and I honestly felt like I haven't been comfortable around him for years. Spending time with him now is like walking on broken glass, the amount of rage I have to choke back whenever I see him or hear him talk is painful - and I realised that one reason I was drinking so much was that it was the only way to cope with being his friend.

* I realised that since I've stopped drinking, I've had a voice. Without alcohol to numb whatever I'm feeling at the moment, my only options are to face my problems in a constructive way or to collapse under the weight of the world. So I've developed healthier coping mechanisms to survive. I speak to the people in my life who make me feel safe and secure. I'm vulnerable with them. I've never been truly vulnerable with any real-life person in my adult life. And now I'm in an environment where I feel safe doing that.

* I remembered this quote from Boston Legal the other day - when you're an addict, you get mentally stuck at the age you were when you started using. I spent years using alcohol as a crutch, with any meaningful discourse in my life coming from short outbursts when I couldn't handle being treated in a certain way for any longer. Since I've stopped drinking, my life feels like it's in motion again - so this quote has really resonated with me.

I've made threads trying to justify the idea of me drinking again for stress relief. But I realise how stupid that is now. I realise how stunted I became due to alcohol abuse, and it's through removing alcohol from my life that I've been able to face some of the immediate issues in my life that are making me unhappy.

Some time in the last week or two, I had an episode where I couldn't see a future with me in it. I knew it existed, I had no plans to die any time soon - and I still don't - but I simply felt like there was no worthwhile future for anyone around me with me in it. I could see a happy future where I wasn't there.

Now, I feel more hopeful about myself than I have in years. I think it could be a slight manic uptick on my part - I'll be sad again in the future, I have no doubt. But with everything that's happened in the past few days, I can't help but feel like I've overcome something tremendous. I don't need to drink to be happy - I have people in my life that make me happy without having to numb myself. And I realise that there are people in my life that I literally had to numb myself to be around.

The next step is to hopefully get some antidepressants. I filled out a DASS test with a clinical psychologist, and it indicated that I was in the 87th percentile of people with depression. I'm now filling out a mood chart, and it has been grim so far. The only day Where I haven't indicated any depression at all was during an all nighter, which left me so agitated I ended up going to bed out of frustration. It's a process.

But I'm not affected by alcohol any more. I'm past that. And emotionally, I feel healthier than I've ever been.

I'm done with drinking. It's over.

@kelemvor - I saw it without seeing any of the Mel Gibson ones. It's a great movie on its own merits.

My understanding is that the Mad Max movies are all very different and more-or-less unconnected.
