I didn't like it. Not because "urr it's a rip odf of the quiet place" but because it felt like it was less than the sum of its parts and the parts they used were kinda shitty anyway. It's your basic Hollywood horror flick.

No hate if folks liked it, though. I just don't give a shit about these ensemble survivor movies where the threat is all unseen at the start and the movie goes "ooh, what could it be? what's so awful about it? isn't the unknown scary?"

Maybe Annihilation ruined me, because that movie had a payoff that I loved. Fuck, it had a payoff that I cared about - something I can't say for Bird Box. Again, no hate, I just didn't like it personally.

I'm glad that Arin and Dan have jobs, but it's not the same vibe. They've had to take comedy classes to keep the banter up, and Arun's laugh has changed to this whispy sort of thing and I'm just not enjoying it as much.

Like what, you want them to take a developed city and rename it Wakanda? You want to limit the amount of African countries that can use the name because they're not "good" examples of African countries? Because that flies in the face of a stronger, more developed Africa. Not to put words in your mouth, but this part of your post has some pretty unfortunate implications.

I agree that it's a cash-grab, and I can't help but think that some fringe psychos are going to make a case for this being an example of colonialism since they're using a name that was produced in America to be used in an American property to develop an area in Africa. But it's like if Black Panther was seen as positive representation, enough for African nations to feel comfortable drawing inspiration for a project like this, then maybe it's cool. He shitted up the American government, he tweeted about how he's the victim and how he's sitting in the White House working on Christmas Eve when he wasn't even at work at the time - and now he's left the country to do some publicity shots with the troops.

"Trump visits the troops during the holiday season" is a better headline than "Trump shuts down government over $1b border demand, lies about working on Christmas for sympathy". If you liked Harvest Moon, Friends of Mineral Town especially, you should really pick up Stardew Valley. I bought it last year when I got my Switch, and I still play it - it's the only game from my initial three purchases that has held up.

Skyrim is fun. I would check out the Puyo Puyo Tetris demo, that got a lot of play time on my Switch until I bought the full game this year. Agatha Knife is a really neat point and click adventure game if you're into that.

But if nothing else - I would consider looking into Stardew Valley. It's fantastic.

I think incels are shaped by the environment they grow up in. They're bullied, their parents have to tell them how important they are and how nice they are, and then they watch a bunch of movies and shit about nice guys getting the ideal girlfriend by virtue of their kind nature.

And hey, posting online is a solitary hobby that offers some degree of socialisation - and there are more people who went through the same thing! Let's bond over some shared experiences! Congrats, you've got an incel - they've locked themselves into a smug circle jerk about how society is persecuting them, and they want to feel like they're taking back their "lost" destiny. It's a coping mechanism that strips empathy for certain people, gives them an identity to rally behind and shields them from any sort of self-reflection or betterment - because there's nothing wrong with them, it's the rest of the world who is wrong.

Yeah. Like even if you didn't see them a whole lot, the impact still sends shockwaves throughout the family - it's a face that you might only see in photos and very occasionally IRL, but it's like it's a face that will never be seen again.

I've been pretty lucky to only lose a handful of family members, most of them being really old - my Uncle John was the only big shock, he died out of nowhere when I was 10 or so.

That sort of thing must have been soul-crushing for your relative's daughter - I hope you and your family will be alright.

First of all, you're working on Christmas. That fucking blows chunks whether you're living the dream or shoveling shit for a living. Secondly, you're listening to people who are on a razor-thin edge between life and death - that's a morbid line of work, and you might very well listen to someone shoot themselves in the face or throw down 50+ tablets - you will be the last person that they ever talk to.

Calls would probably be pretty often around Christmas, from people who are enstranged from their families or who are alcoholics or whatever - like it's a required service, these people need a first responder in their fight against suicide and you need to be their last line of defence.
