I don't think there's any basis for this idea that the business could be held liable for anyone eating bad food. In fact I'm pretty sure I saw a full on refutation of that idea recently.

There are tons and tons of lawsuits from people who have gotten food poisoning after eating food from a store or restaurant, what are you even talking about

Well first off, calling the police doesn't cost the store anything. Second, if you actually read the article it states that these people were not there to gather food for themselves, but rather planned to redistribute it which is honestly pretty gross. Yes, let's pull a bunch of meat out of the dumpster that we have no idea how long has been out of refrigeration and pass it out to other people who have no idea where we got it! Then when they get sick they can blame the store whose packaging is all over it for giving out spoiled food!
