She's gets driven nutty and sadistic by some dude she liked dying, featuring poisoning kids, but gradually gets more sane the more times you loop.

That may be "simple" for you but I legitimately don't remember anything about Derosso beyond "is an old ass vampire" so I mean, yeah, pretty similar and on par with the rest of the rogues gallery aside from maybe like one or two.

I wish Veritas of the Water's skillset was on a character I liked more. She seems to be the perfect fit for where I want my team to go but yeah I'm not using it. I'll just use my suboptimal X-Death instead.

I think half the reason is because Bravely Default isn't exactly a game where any of the characters are off on an island better or worse or given more time or development-- they're all pretty simple conceptually, for better or worse, and given pretty similar amounts of screen time. Party members are all mingling pretty equally, and bosses basically have their bit of story time before and after the fights with some sporadic appearances otherwise, and that's it.

Like I could stomach say "Amarant is objectively a worse character than Zidane" despite thinking Zidane sucks ass and kinda liking Amarant because well, it's clear he doesn't really do much in a game where most of the cast does. I think that makes him better for it as he's that guy who's choosing not to indulge in the tripe that the game is dishing out, but you know, I at least understand it.

I kinda like the idea of a Priority keyword. Idea being that stuff will explicitly resolve in order of ascending priority, with Pre-Battles resolving in order of declaration as usual.

For instance, you could have something like this.

Taunt (Start of Battle, Priority 1, Recharge 2) - Once every three weeks, Dan may taunt a preselected enemy merc. Incensed, they will prioritize taking out Dan above all else. Additionally all of their damaging abilities used this week are redirected to him.

Because it's Priority 1, there's no question it'll resolve properly on higher. The idea is you would then clean up the write-up, explicitly giving an order of resolution on multiple abilities hitting a guy, when needed, and you'd generally give all redirection effects high priority to remove that confusion implicitly.

You could also do something wacky like load the Priority keyword with game mechanics. For instance say you do something like make pretty much all Priority 5 abilities of the damage type, then you could say something like, additionally all of their Priority 5 abilities used this week are redirected to him rather than introducing the "damaging" issue. And if you wanted to make a weird ability that does damage but can't be prevented, you just give it a different priority.

I actually like Derosso but I gotta admit I get some enjoyment out of seeing him punted same reason I would get something out of seeing Edea or Ringabel punted despite liking them too.

For some reason Bravely Default fans really feel like they talk down to people who like other characters from the game more than the ones they like moreso than most of the other games in this contest. I dunno maybe it's just me that feels that way.

The only real unclear thing is people tend to be unclear what the cooldown is on an every 3 week ability for abilities that refer to cooldown.

But I feel like if you put "Cooldown X" near the ability descriptor that confusion goes away and I think "every x weeks" reads better, but yeah not really a priority as long as you have the Cooldown X tag.

Medea Lily looks fun but yeah the write-up does raise an interesting point that constantly being at full HP doesn't even necessarily mean you survive in this game. I kinda wish she did a bit more.

I've actually had some success with a wacky Matthew debuffing build, when playing on a map that doesn't require to constantly OHKO. I did it as a gimmick but it has been pretty strong-- dude's surprisingly tanky as his HP and DEF are fairly high (RES kinda low though unfortunately, but as long as it's not all mages it's fine), Rogue Dagger buffs both defense stats, and his SPD is high so he never gets doubled. I've been using +SPD/-ATK. Basically put him out front, then he turns the other team into a gimp and your backline finishes em off.

Close Counter (yes I used a Takumi on this nonsense! gotta counter hit to debuff)

Threaten Speed 3

Wondering if that Lyn Smoke thing would be more effective in the C slot. -7 Attack to everyone all the time. I've already killed a Takumi for this why not another 5*.

Debuffing all the stats seems more stylish though. Maybe I should hold off for a Speed Smoke

I had a lot of fun in Champions drafts and Betrayers drafts and sealed. Saviors uh I don't have any particular memory-- I'm not sure if it was just forgettable cause the cards were so damn bad or I didn't bother with it.

But yeah Kamigawa and Invasion block were probably my two favorite blocks to play in draft to be honest. I'm probably in the minority in that I kinda think that at some point the power creep for creatures got to be a bit too high for limited to be very fun, but that era of mtg when creatures were getting better than stuff like Grizzly Bears but still weren't like 2/2 double strikes for 3 or whatever was great.

I mean don't get me wrong they're still used because mobility is just that useful and their stats aren't much worse and weaknesses can be played around, but the idea of full teams of higher mobility units becoming the norm because they get better buffs and by extension better stats than lower mobility units seems like a cute idea someone didn't think through very well at all.

I mean, I guess if there's something way different about the abilities being learned from equipment to you vs the many other ways in the series that are similar but aren't specifically from equipment, I'm not going to get in your way.

The board at large hates on Tactics Advance's gameplay too though. Granted a lot of that is due to other things like the dumb law system but you'd think if there were dopamine IVs running rampant in that game people might highlight the positives to that game's system once in a while. Not saying there aren't things FFIX's combat does well-- I'm just pointing out how uneven the representations of the positives and negatives of battle systems tend to be around here. Almost like some people on the board just look for reasons to try and explain why a game they don't like is objectively bad instead of just saying what they personally didn't like about it.

Now all this to say that with a series like FF that isn't heavily gameplay driven, so most people on the board probably aren't playing it for its gameplay so yeah given the track record and that I'll take all gameplay appraisals with a bit of skepticism coming in. FF2's included, cause really it's easy to point out how dumb it is in theory but in practice you probably aren't going to hit most of the weird snags with it unless you want every character to do everything or have no sense of pattern recognition.

Plenty of FF games have good gameplay. FFV, FFX, FFIV DS are all excellent even without the story I feel. I really liked FFXIII's gameplay too though I can see why people might not-- then again I didn't dislike FFII's gameplay as much as most.

I kinda stopped taking the gameplay criticism seriously from most of this board when their favorite FF was the utterly glacial FFIX though.

Honestly the funny thing is I'm in favor of cidpics too.

I'm just saying scarlet is a baby as much as charon is, he's just less of a jerk. Ya both need to lighten up. I've made my share of blunders in stuff when I'm trying to be funny on this board like the Analysis Crew, TEW booking, etc etc. No one can make everyone laugh all the time.

But if you make someone laugh once in a while, it's worth it, as long as the stuff that doesn't isn't aggressively unfunny. I would say for as many I said were bad, only today's would really apply there (largely because I have no idea why it was even a Cidpic)

There's probably a lot of anger towards Terra because a few of her more vocal haters have put into words pretty well what there is to dislike about her, while her supporters can't really do the reverse too well from what I've seen, which makes a lot of people on the fence say "you know, you're right, Terra is bad."

I think most of them are bad, and I think most people think most of them are bad but don't say anything because they don't want you to stop doing them because they're aware you're very SENSITIVE. I usually keep it to myself, because if nothing else I am a very positive person, but I felt we needed some negativity dispersion here from someone who you know isn't white knighting charon.

Now all that being said I think you should still do them because even if only 2/14 of them were any good, that's still two more than zero. There's no penalty for shooting and missing. You just scroll past the pic and move on.
