So I guess if you just want dumplings and have a decent amount of bonuses the first stage repeatedly is the best strategy

Kinda wondering if the other stages have good enough drop rates to be worth it-- like you can't get Secret Gems of Killing from dailies so I'm half tempted to run the third stage instead.

Course there's the other factor of there'll probably be a point where I don't actually want dumplings since the pieces and the craft essences after the first don't seem worth bothering with.

I kinda prefer just running an Integrated Product regardless of whether I actually want the women to fight the men just so I can see what division they're in-- although I actually like the option to have intergender matches without a penalty as well. Though to be fair there can be weird side effects to that if you want the women to be strictly a division and I pretty much always just make my own fed so yeah-- like I don't think when I ran TNA I bothered to change the product at all.

Right.

And I'm saying they're both not really handled very well to the point where to me it's like... neither one is really trying it's just MGSIV isn't even pretending to. You clearly feel differently but yeah I'll never really get the love for FOXHOUND.

Yeah. If you like deathbed story dumps over Drebin being silly, then it's better. To me it's like basically the same thing, though.

Basically like, your bar for whether something feels forced is somewhere between where the beauties are and where most of MGS's bad guys are-- mine basically puts em all under the bar aside from a few of the more significant names.

Course I shamelessly like characters that are shallow so the bar doesn't really matter much to me, so arbitrarily setting it higher is something I can do since I'm not judging myself for thinking The Fury is awesome, even though there's not really anything to him.

I meant the backstories/characterization, specifically, are shoehorned.

I agree the boss fights themselves tend to come up at times that fit into the plot better but that doesn't really make the characters better, or set a significantly better amount of hype to facing them or anything like that since none of em are built up much as a big deal fight aside from Sniper Wolf.

I think the plot relevance of FOXHOUND is a bit overblown. Vulcan Raven was B&B tier, and frankly so is Psycho Mantis and he's just given a pass because his boss fight is awesome. I mean it's the best set from a character perspective but yeah.

I mean really if we're talking character simplicity I'd say over half of the bosses in MGS1-3 are about on par with the B&B. And then of the remaining characters you've got less still that are actually good characters.

There just isn't really a lot to MGS baddies. I personally don't mind this but if you're gonna hate on the B&B because they lacked dialogue, you should.

Sure, the B&B had like, no characters, but who cares? None of the units in the other games really had characters that were selling points either. I'm the last guy to defend MGS4 as a whole but the bosses were good-- I'll take Drebin's random ass backstory dumps laid over good boss fights over most of the bads from the other games. Cobra Unit is the only one that can compete really.

it is when you add stuff to them for fun! :D

Other than that, eh. It was a neat concept, but it needs a break and/or an overhaul and/or fresh mercs before a hypothetical draftmerx 2. My only real gripe with format stuff was I feel the bye was too powerful. I still say just run an 8 (or 4) team playoffs instead of making the first two rounds a formality.

IMO a 1 round bye for top two seeds and the first round being Best of 1 would fix a lot of problems with the format. Would cut 2 weeks off the duration and would make the bye a bit less powerful, but I think it's a better solution than top 4.

Honestly though if that's true it's so stupid. Like I can actually get why you'd bury a guy to discipline em, but why waste the burial (and MitB) like that. Just go the Kennedy approach and have someone win it from him if you don't want Baron to have it. At least someone would actually gain something that way. I mean lack of lackeys sorta does matter because it means he lost for a reason that didn't involve Jinder outsmarting him via means of his lackeys, which I could sorta buy as not necessarily being the worst thing considering Jinder + lackeys have been one step ahead of Orton pretty consistently.

Like, I'd buy it's an actual issue if they were doing anything with the Hardyz.

But the fact that they're not tells me that they never had any intent to try and do anything but make them Dudleyz 2.0-- TNA dropping it would just mean the Hardyz would be more over the top with letting the Broken aspects flow. I doubt any sort of change would be had in the programming.

In any case...

Razor Ramon is 100% a character created by WWE
"Broken" Matt Hardy is... well it's unsure how much of that is "Broken" and how much of that is "Matt Hardy"-- to further that it's not clear whether TNA even owns "Broken"
The fact that Razor was not even open and shut means you can probably be pretty liberal with what you do with the Hardyz so long as you don't directly call them Broken

WWE has literally no reason to fear any sort of legal action if they play very conservatively. I mean, no more than they do now with their subtle mannerism use. I mean wrestlers have basically kept their characters when hopping back and forth time and time again, just having a token name change. It'd take a foolish amount of audacity by TNA to even attempt anything if WWE is not blatant, which is fairly easy to do while still keeping a lot of the charm the Broken Hardyz have.

Yeah.

Very vague references thrown in with a nostalgia act.

Like you can't literally do the exact same things the Broken Hardyz did, but you're telling me there's no way to do anything with vaguely the same kinda feel? I mean hell that stupid House of Horrors thing didn't seem too far off from the general gist of the kinda things you'd need to give them to make them stand out. Or if you wanna keep it a lot more grounded just... let them do anything but fall into the tag title shuffle (it doesn't boost Sheamus & Cesaro up to be having a 50/50 feud with them it brings them down) and you've by default got something better.

They should have been closer to the world title scene than the tag title scene, frankly. Maybe have em win the tag titles to elevate those as tag feuds start mingling with world title feuds, but yeah. They're literally doing the exact same thing they did with the Dudleyz with them and blaming the legal issues really only goes so far.

Do you really believe that, though?

If you're creative there are ways to use the Hardyz while still keeping the broken flavor, or something that's at least vaguely compelling. Like you can't trademark mannerisms, etc. Just don't call them "Broken" let them continue to act nuts. To me this just seems like a convenient excuse to use them as another nostalgia act much like they did with the Dudleyz when they came back, because that's all they know how to do.
