I don't think Pokemon is a good fit for this list in general. Even the most difficult parts are just not that difficult. Everything is designed so that it can be reasonably beaten by an 8-year old.

I'm of two minds about Whitney. On one hand, she's an iconically challenging boss from a series usually not that hard. On the other hand, I've literally never struggled with her.

What if we compromised and voted Ultra Necrozma, who is definitely harder.

I think for something like this, general gaming consensus is more important than personal experience

With that said I think the Pokemon fanbase heavily overrates how much they actually struggled with Whitney because she mildly stands out in an extremely easy series

I actually don't think any of the others (besides maybe Ornstein and Smough) would be appropriate for a general gaming Rushmore. When most of the bosses in a series are difficult, they aren't going to stand out as much. Malenia however had like, articles written about her, and started the Let Me Solo Her fad, and happens to be from the highest-selling Soulsborne game. That's different.

Surprised there's not more Malenia support. Let Me Solo Her was a fairly well-known thing last year.

Case 5 It's really bizarre how the case ends up with loose ends like Alaric obviously having been polymorphed but you never have to prove it or anything, really adds to the feeling of the case being rushed, even though I wouldn't have gotten much from having to prove a fairly obvious point in court

The main developer discussed on the AA subreddit that Case 5 was subject to money and time constraints, including rewrites to include the Aster reveal instead of making it a separate Case 6. Presumably the original version would've made it less clear in Case 5 that he's the patron. The polymorph detail was also mentioned as something they werent able to expound on in-game but left in anyway.

Which is a shame because I think TC with all the main issues ironed out could have ended up as good as the best AA games.

Agreed. Case 5 was especially egregious about this. I'm lucky that I was familiar with all the magic due to it being based largely off of D&D, so that at least didn't feel overwhelming. I can imagine someone getting slammed with several dozen spells and being overwhelmed.

After some reflection, TC as a mid-tier AA game sounds about right. I mean that in a positive way. In comparison, that puts it above all the Zero Escape and Danganronpa games for me.

I don't know man, I have a ton of people on Ignore and pretty much all of them were from the Politics board, and that place was still rough to read through. I don't actually blame the mods for closing that one down because it probably quadrupled their total workload. Even if yes, in retrospect that was not the best precedent to set.

It makes sense to me. Corporate overlords have 'reason' to close boards related to Religion, Sexuality, etc. Who knows what drama might be brewing in those dens of inequity? People might be expressing opinions!

B8 being contest-themed is actually helpful in this regard. That theme is too boring to worry about.

That's one of the main gimmicks. Spells exist for realsies and their properties are used as evidence in court.

I don't think many people who play Cruelty Squad are gonna do it without taking a look and going "Yeah, I can vibe with this"

It's fun but also feels kinda hollow. Like, they're making statues of a guy who was a lawyer for three years then disbarred for eight. DD really wants us to pretend that AA4 was just a footnote in Phoenix's illustrious career.

I think the manga peaked early and got worse over time, and that's pretty much the consensus opinion I've seen as well. If the show takes off, it's going to follow the classic shonen trend of people getting hyped for a season or two and then wondering what went wrong (unless the animations cooks hard in later fights to mask plotting issues).

As a side note, being someone who primarily reads manga in a topic that's primarily about anime shows can be an interesting experience sometimes. Especially when you're far ahead of all the adaptations that inevitably come out. Makes you feel like a time traveler.

On that note, I would advise caution against anyone starting to get invested in Kaiju No 8.

There's been a lot of overlap with my list in this topic so far, but I'm pretty upset that I seem to be totally alone on Sound Euphonium, it's such a masterpiece. Do people actually disagree or is it just lower viewership here than I realize?

Haven't seen it but have heard of it. Based on a quick google search, it's two genres I personally don't generally enjoy: music + cute girls doing cute things. Just not my wheelhouse. I think the only show like that I've watched is Bocchi and I had to be dragged into that by a two-month onslaught of memes.

If this forum progresses to a usable state, I think it would be smart for everyone to sign up for it in advance. That way we can easily jump ship if/when B8 disappears.

I would have to include manga in a Top 10 because I read things way more than I watch. First two that immediately come to mind are Re: Zero and Dungeon Meshi, and after that it gets a lot fuzzier.
