Been a while since I played DS, but in generall Strength is your go-to stat for that. Check the stat scalings in the details on your big swordy weapons.

Endurance is a super important stat as well because it governs max stamina and the kind armor you can equip. Vitality is nice too, as besides the HP increase it lets you carry more total items (which is more obnoxious than anything else, later games thankfully let you carry as much crap as you want).

I agree with you that a bit too much of Snake's dialogue is "huh?", "what the hell?", or simply repeating lines back to someone, but at this point it's become one of those charming points about him so I mostly forgive it. The hero worship thing I can understand you not liking, but personally I really like how it ties into the overarching story. The MGS world deifies all of their big heroes - The Boss, Big Boss, and Solid Snake all get tons of hype from basically everyone, especially Big Boss who is the major comparison point for everyone else in the series. I think it works because you see the different ways that they react to the hero worship. The Boss ignores it. Big Boss accepts it and manipulates it to his own ends (as seen in what he does in MGS5). Solid Snake openly rejects it. It plays into their characters pretty well.

SoA isn't totally dated by this point but it definitely feels like an old kind of JRPG. Xenoblade isn't dated and actually does some things better than open-world games like it that come out currently. Both are playable on the Dolphin with patches (I think SoA actually has a random encounter mod by now and Xenoblade definitely has an HD patch). Wouldn't rely on any rereleases as apparently people in SEGA have been trying to get something SoA-related made for a while but it never gets off the ground.

Certain games like Bioshock do it really well - you can listen to audio logs while progressing the game as normal. The examples you list are annoying when they pop up though, and I think the Bioshock method still had drawbacks. There's a general trend in games to restrict the player less in games, which is overall a good thing, but it can make story bits less impactful when you're concentrating on gameplay mechanics (or running in circles) at the same time.

Depending on how the enemy messes around with reposition/swap nonsense, it's more than possible to have 4 ranged horses barreling down the planks all at the same time. And since there's less vertical and horizontal space than usual, it can be literally impossible to position properly against them as they can cover the entire map all at once.

FEH is going to be around for a long time I think. They're making more money now than they ever have before. I doubt I'll be playing in two years but the only game I've ever played for more than a few months is League of Legends so FEH holding my interest for so long is already a big deal to me.

Bigger maps I'm 90% sure they'll never do. Think they've mentioned they want to keep things simple. The other 10% is if they realize that FEH is making stupid money and they can just is as a live service with constant updates instead of making any actual new games.

Yeah, and the enemies have a chance of dodging too. In general I think that having one enemy dodge something you do would actually be more devastating than the opposite. The initial bait-in is not as big of a deal as being able to consistently clean up everyone afterwards.

Stacking BS on top of BS does not make things better.

Also - one more thing to consider - stamina is not even close to being an infinite resource to people that are just joining. When I came back after my three month break I discovered a stupid amount of stuff to catch up on. That's actually where I started running out! And there was less stuff to do back then!

Like I'm just not seeing the point of adding evasion. All it would do is break game balance and piss off some people. The mini-Fire Emblem mode thing is possible but I also think it wouldn't turn out nearly as well as you would hope.

Ever since they started the GHB infernal re-runs where you have to potentially use a bunch of units you never have (guess who had nothing resembling a Cav or Flier team before this!), I've been averaging like 5+ Stamina Potions a day. Thankfully I managed to clear everything except some of the Flier challenges so I can ease up, but yeah.

But luck is now a factor, so...

If your units suck then you can keep banging your head on a stage and pray to the RNG gods at least.

This seems like a very poor precedent for FEH game design as a whole.

Chain Challenges, GHB Infernal, Tempest Trial autobattles, ect.

I purposefully never built some stupid Horse Emblem team because I found it really boring, so I beat all the challenges with more 'normal' teams because it was more fun. It took a lot of stamina though.

And yeah I've seen other people on the forums/reddit who run out of stamina so it's not just me. It's not something you can ignore when deciding to add in mechanics that do little more than waste time.

Why 20 characters though? What's the point when you can only field 4 and the maps are constrained the size of a single phone screen? The kind of depth you're asking for isn't really what FEH was made for or is equipped to handle without some big infrastructure changes.
