Spec Ops: The Line, Batman: Arkham Asylum

Spec Ops The Line had flawless execution of story but the gameplay was pretty generic war shooter fare. It's an amazing game but doesn't play particularly better than other shooters

Arkham Asylum was great, but City was better in almost every way aside from the lack of Scarecrow missions. In particular, I feel like it's generally considered that the final boss in Arkham Asylum is one of the weakest moments of the series.

The Last of Us

Sort of like Spec Ops, flawless execution of story, but gameplay wasn't incredible. It was mostly smooth but eventually it got to the point where the shooting was almost in the way of the story. It's the same reason I probably wouldn't put the Bioshock games in this category, even though they're my favorites.

I really like the concept and most of the Thumper execution, but it gets really repetitive. In particular, it's a really weird choice to have literally no boss variation, with the same two bosses appearing in every level

Was it a Taco Bell specific gift card or a Visa gift card? Because Visa gift cards are an entire other issue

Like where I work, we can only take Visa gift cards if they're enough to cover it or they know the exact amount that's on it, because it'll automatically reject if you try to pay for something that costs more than it's worth. And we can't pay partial with a Visa gift card and partial with a credit card (can split between visa card and cash though)

Heavy Rain and Arkham Knight are definitely both good options. Both very good games that could've been all-time greats. MVCI will be interesting too even though the major fix is obvious.

With Lights Out I essentially felt nothing afterwards. Like I thought it was just really forgettable. A villain with a whatever gimmick and a vague connection to the protagonist's past. Felt the same way about The Conjuring too.

I don't think I've ever seen a horror movie that I have literally nothing to say about it after. Like absolutely nothing to say about it. Nothing to discuss or anything.

It was an enjoyable enough of a time, but man. It's about as straightforward as it could get and really doesn't have a lot of intrigue to it.

Jim Gaffigan is excellent. I used to listen to three episodes of Comedy Central Presents over and over again: Jim Gaffigan, Dave Attell, and Pablo Francisco...and he's gone on to probably have the best career of them.

I used to really like Jim Gaffigan, saw multiple of his specials and thought they were hilarious

A girlfriend introduced me to Burnham when he was still just YouTube...didn't like him! Words Words Words is transcendent though. -- loooooved "Art is Dead." His next special was good too...think it was called "What" or "And" or something.

Yeah he got popular off YouTube, then released a self-titled album, followed by Words, Words, Words and then two Netflix exclusives, "what." and "Make Happy" (if you liked what it's worth it to check out Make Happy, it's a lot closer to what than it is to his earlier stuff)

I mean I liked him from the beginning, but I think he's definitely improved over time. At this point it's hard to even call him a stand-up comedian; it's mostly solely music that's comedic now

I think my favorite by him is "From God's Perspective"

Night 6

The night sits in. In the ruins of a lounge, Seung Mina sits with the last remnants of the feast she managed to save. She aims her polearm ahead of her as she eats, sensing dread in the air.

Haggar lumbers in. His looks badly damaged, with fury in his eyes. He sees the food in the air, and without even noticing Mina, he rushes the food.

As he reaches for it, the pole comes down on his arm, pinching it to the table.

"Don't."

"Little girl, this isn't a challenge worth making. I may look weakened, but I am here for a reason. Step aside." Mina stares at him without hesitation. "I will not starve to protect the feelings of a girl who plays with a stick and calls herself a fighter."

He grabs onto the polearm with his free hand, but Mina flips the weapon around, twisting his arm, and jamming the butt of the pole into his abdomen. He reels in pain. She takes advantage, unleashing a rapid series of jabs into his chest. Haggar fights through the pain, catching the last jab in his hands. "What now?" he laughs. Seung Mina jumps over the table, kicking Haggar in his shot shoulder and knocking him far from the table.

Haggar struggles to pull himself up, glares at her once more, and leaves the room.

About a half hour later, Durst strides in, Soul Edge slung over his shoulder. "Hey, no stalling this time. I'm riding a high right now and ready to fight!" He swings Soul Edge onto the table. Mina swings her polearm into the food on the table, pulling it toward her just as the table is broken in half by the attack.

"Oh shit! You're pretty good with that thing!" Durst laughs swaying Soul Edge back and forth, the red glow filling the room. He swings the Soul Edge toward her again, but she catches it with her own blade. The force of the Soul Edge is too powerful though, pushing her back. He swings again, this time knocking her off her feet as her pole is caught. "Guess not good enough though!"

Seung Mina stabs her blade into the ground, spinning around it as she rises and sending herself launching through the air. She leaps over Soul Edge, kicking Durst in the face and knocking the backwards cap off his head. He begins to swing again, but as she falls she swings the polearm down full force against Soul Edge. The weight of the impact sends Durst crumbling backwards as his knees buckle beneath him.

Before he can react, Mina has a foot on his chest, her polearm inches from his throat. Durst's eyes widen, before he opens his hands in submission. "Alright, alright, you win." He picks up his sword and reaches for his cap, but Mina stabs her blade into it, pulling it up and putting the cap backwards on her own head. "Cold," Durst laughs, and makes his way out of the room.

Mina breathes heavily, exhausted from the fights. She grabs what food she has left and shoves it all into her mouth. Suddenly, she mutes her breathing, and then through a full mouth mutters, "Tho... ditchoo geth a good thow?"

She ducks and swings her polearm up, catching Snake's pistol from just behind where her head was and knocking it to the ground.

Her heart racing and her body bruised, she still raises her polearm as Snake stares her down. She immediately goes on the attack, sending swipe after swipe at Snake, and though he dodges most of them, he catches his arm, drawing blood and leaving him to scramble away from the attacks. He dives for the gun, but she drives her polearm into it, locking it in place.

"I suggest you leave," she growls. Snake lowers his head, and makes his way out of the room.

Seung Mina collapses down into her chair, the exhaustion finally beginning to take over as she drifts to sleep, still sitting up with her weapon clenched.

Happiness = peace of mind

No amount of money can bring peace of mind to some people. I say that because that's how I am. I constantly think about the morality of things, what's good what's bad. Surprise surprise there are alot of bad things, and alot of just "neither one" things that you can't do anything about. That's a cause of anxiety for me. I'm also kinda poor, but that doesn't have anything to do with it

idk man I think not having to worry about whether or not I'll be able to make rent each month would bring me some peace of mind

being able to afford to go to the doctor for medical problems would bring peace of mind

It's my favorite of the spinoffs exactly because of the worlds. Fantasia was amazing (especially the boss fight against Chernabog, which should've been in a full console sequel imo), but Hunchback of Notre Dame and Tron: Legacy were both a lot of fun as well

DDD was really good for fun, and really really REALLY bad for story....

I actually had this exact opposite thought for BBS

Thought the story was really, really good but found the game itself to be pretty boring

Mostly because the worlds they chose were ones that didn't really lend themselves to interesting design or action

And having the "Lilo & Stitch level" be just the inside of a solid grey spaceship was such a poor decision

Hard to say people are "quick to complain" when KH2 came out in the US in 2006 and none of the games in the series since have been good.

I mean yeah, it's pretty rare that handheld spinoffs are as good as the main console releases in pretty much any franchise

but even then the spinoffs were pretty damn good

Vanishing of Ethan Carter is pretty easily one of the best first-person-exploration games, and one of the best indie games period.

In hindsight I'm glad it didn't overstay its welcome (in my opinion anyway) and kept the mystery just long enough to make the payoff as powerful as it was.

Also the rooms puzzle fucked me up
