Best album: Greg Giraldo - Good Day to Cross a River:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpyLQvc4OICdvNo066_R3-7750qsjd1xN

Largest body of truly superb stand-up: George Carlin (Dave Chappelle's closing in though!)

Best stand-up comedian with music: Stephen Lynch, and he has this short poem called Love Song which we all need to know:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4asdMekPdg

Best stand-up album with music by a comedian who doesn't usually use music: Doug Stanhope - Something to Take the Edge Off

Best dark one-liners: Anthony Jeselnik - Shakespeare

Best lighter one-liners: I mix up Mitch Hedburg's albums, but it's hard to go wrong with any of them

Best stand-up debut followed by a terrible special: Wyatt Cenac (Comedy Person was outstanding while Brooklyn was zzzzz)

Rank the heirs of Jon Stewart's legacy: Colbert >= Oliver > Noah > Wilmore

Most underrated Daily Show correspondent: Aasif Mandvi

Rank the Blue Collar Comedy Tour: Ron > Jeff >> Bill > Larry

Last good comedy I saw: it's not stand-up, but the documentary for the Dana Carvey Show called Too Funny To Fail is fun

Last disappointing special I saw: Amy Schumer - The Leather Special (still has other quality works like Cutting, but eh to this)

Comedian I don't get: Iliza Shlesinger

Are women funny though: yes, they're smart AND funny

Worst-aged comedian: Adam Sandler's albums, aside from his Hanukkah songs and Piece of Shit Car

Worst bomb: The Situation at Donald Trump's roast

Hot new upcoming comedian: obligatory mentions for Trae Crowder and Drew Morgan, but also I saw Michelle Wolff a few times before she landed on The Daily Show -- she's got chops

Someone I'd like to see more from: Morgan Murphy

Best book on comedy: the UCB Comedy Improvisation Manual reads like a fifth grade textbook with doodles added for adults to be funnier

Comedy for us weird niche fucks still reading:

Tig Notaro - Live to see a comedian after so much tragedy JUST struck her (it was niche for like a week anyway, not so much now)

Todd Barry - Crowd Work had him tour with nothing but crowd interactions

Harland Williams - A Force of Nature for stand-up out in the desert by himself

Anything by Reggie Watts, but expecially his live album in Central Park

Some other albums I don't have a category for but deserve a mention:

Steve Martin - On Location
Daniel Tosh - Completely Serious
Patrice O'Neal - Elephant in the Room

It seemed like for a while there Louis CK was pretty much mandatory on every best standup comedian list. Wonder if that'll be the case anymore

Personal favorite is Bo Burnham

Animal Furnace is great!

I liked Chewed Up a lot by C.K., but yeah, like Cosby, you're gonna see a lot of people back away from his comedy content.

A girlfriend introduced me to Burnham when he was still just YouTube...didn't like him! Words Words Words is transcendent though. -- loooooved "Art is Dead." His next special was good too...think it was called "What" or "And" or something.

Yeah he got popular off YouTube, then released a self-titled album, followed by Words, Words, Words and then two Netflix exclusives, "what." and "Make Happy" (if you liked what it's worth it to check out Make Happy, it's a lot closer to what than it is to his earlier stuff)

I mean I liked him from the beginning, but I think he's definitely improved over time. At this point it's hard to even call him a stand-up comedian; it's mostly solely music that's comedic now

I think my favorite by him is "From God's Perspective"

What. is my favorite individual comedy special I've ever seen. It's really hard to classify Bo Burnham's comedy as merely stand-up though.

Bill Hicks has my favorite body of work of any comedian.

Bill Hicks is cool, but he's no Dennis Leary. ;)

Nah, I've enjoyed his stuff but I can't say he's stuck to my ribs like he has for a lot of other people.

EDIT: and fuck Leary -- best thing he ever did was the Asshole song. His stand-up is all attitude and weak on the jokes.

I only started really liking Dane once other people were hopping off the train. ISolated INcident is probably my favorite special of his. His original Comedy Central Presents special was pretty good though.

He also deserved more credit for Employee of the Month. It's no perfect movie, but it's underrated.

the thing about louis ck that I find really interesting is that a large body of his work was about how creepy and disgusting he was, and people seemed to love it and think it was hilarious. until they didn't???

maybe they thought he wasn't being serious

I was just thinking about stand-up this morning. Do people not like Jim Gaffigan? I think hes hilarious.

Im not all that well versed in stand-ups but Mitch Hedberg seemed unique and very funny.

Exactly about C.K. It's one thing to make art about the dark corners of the mind that a lot of people don't want to talk about, but when audiences see it's based on some of his actions in reality it loses a lot of humor with those who now know.

Jim Gaffigan is excellent. I used to listen to three episodes of Comedy Central Presents over and over again: Jim Gaffigan, Dave Attell, and Pablo Francisco...and he's gone on to probably have the best career of them.

I think King Baby's the special with his Hot Pockets-bit, right? Modern classic bit.

Howie Mandel had a pretty funny part on some Comedy Central show. I think the show is called This Is Not Happening or something like that. Never seen any of his other comedy stuff though.

Dave Chappelle is always good times and Ive liked the Kat Williams specials Ive seen. Those two pretty much always make me laugh

John Mulaney's great! I sae him twice at the Copper Cellar, fun sensabilities. His bit about overloading a jukebox with What's Up Pusdycat and his "Why marry the cow?" bit are what I usually think of with him.

This In Not Happening is a good show and I trust Roy Wood Jr. to carry the torch well. I sae that Howie-set...pretty funny how uncomfortable he was up by the stripper pole!

Katt Williams is one of my favorites. His latest special Great America's pretty good, but it's hard to touch him dancing and flipping burgers to EVERY DAY I'M HUSTLIN' HUSTLIN' HUSTLE

James Gregory kills me, but you might not fully appreciate some of his jokes if you never lived in the south.

For "family friendly" comedy, I enjoy Henry Cho a lot.

Sinbad has some great stuff.

As well as others already mentioned.

I used to really like Jim Gaffigan, saw multiple of his specials and thought they were hilarious

but about a year ago I went back to rewatch one, and I just didn't find it funny anymore

I respect Jim Gaffigan for the same reason I respect Henry Cho. Anyone who can make my father laugh consistently for the better part of an hour is A-OK in my book.
