I don't love Donnie Darko, but the rest of these are fantastic. Also deserving a spot in this crowd is Palm Springs, which caught me very much by surprise in 2020.

Over a certain dollar amount the casino is required to issue you a 1099-G and it's generally a better idea to have a good chunk of tax withheld immediately from the winning as opposed to promising yourself you wont spend it all only to owe 30% of it to the government later lol.

What a pain in the ass. I was dumb on guess 3 by reusing the same positioning on a letter, but honestly getting this one in fewer than 5 guesses would have been next to impossible.

I know the logic behind it, it just feels wrong to me. I know I have to be wrong otherwise it wouldn't be 'hard' mode but mentally to me getting 1 letter in the correct place seems to narrow down the number of potential words more than knocking out 1 additional letter.

Imagine the word is BOUND

And your first guess is ROUND

Now you have to rule out SOUND and FOUND and HOUND and MOUND and WOUND while only being able to change 1 letter per guess.

(In easy mode I would guess BRASH to check B, R, S and H all at the same time)

I probably spent 5 minutes on each the 3rd and 4th guess. Having 4 letters but all in the wrong spots was maddening because every 5th letter would either not make a word with the other 4, or the word it made would violate one of the yellow positions. For the 3rd Guess I was first trying to find a word that used the two vowels as well as 3 consonants I had not yet tried and eventually went with a word that reused one of the 4 letters hoping to at least get one of their positions right the second time. Imagine my frustration when they were all wrong in their second place.

If you right-click save a jpeg, it as just as much a copy of the image youre buying direct as the one youre seeing online. Unless you get the actual physical machine the digital art was made on, youre still getting a literal copy.

Ignore oil paintings, there are other collectibles, like pokemon cards or baseball cards that *can* be replicated with the right materials and type of printer in a way that would be virtually impossible to detect. And yet knowing something isn't legitimate makes it worthless.

I think the best way to think about purchasing physical/digital items is what you are really paying for is the "certificate of authenticity." The item in this case is just a bonus.

This is a good way to put it as well.

And i'm definitely not saying everyone *has* to deal in NFTs.
Nor am I saying they are innately better than their physical counterparts.

But I think there is room enough for both to exist and there is at least a purpose to them existing.

Yeah, that's why I singled out PFP projects as the worst type of NFT. The randomly generated projects, with a few notable exceptions, are an oversaturated speculative bubble.

But there are many small time artists who went from struggling to get by to being able to survive on the money they've earned selling their own personal art as NFTs. They don't have to be the person who makes millions overnight, but making thousands can be enough to live on and for many digital artists who were being forced to accept laughably small sums for their work, it's a big step forward. Being able to actually sell the ownership of your digital artwork gives you more control.

For the same reason that people care about originals more than a counterfeit.

At least with blockchain it's *impossible* to be fooled as long as you do the small amount of research necessary to verify the asset you are purchasing is legitimate. You can pull up the address of the asset before you buy it. You can verify in the blockchain explorer which contract minted that asset. You can verify that the comtract address is THE correct address for that collection. In this particular instance Logan Paul would have been better served by spending his millions on crypto punks.

You could right click -> save as a cryptopunk and have a jpeg that looks the same, but you would not be the owner, because the blockchain would not say you were the owner.

You could that jpeg and mint an NFT using out of it, but it would not be on the correct contract so it would not be legitimate. It would just be some other non crypto punk NFT that used the same image.

Edit: And I don't know all the particulars of the banksy situation, but it sounds like banksy has not made any NFTs of his artwork, so bidding on one that is supposedly from him would be pretty suspicious.

It's pretty difficult to believe that people are just now becoming concerned with the status of Education in this country.

Education has always been an issue that's easy for people to just say they support without really caring much about. Test scores are falling? Teachers are underpaid? Class sizes are getting bigger? Sure these are problems, and people love to say they want to FIX these problems but what was honestly and earnestly being done about it?

But now that it's a personal inconvenience for parents to play an integral role in their child's education (which is something they should already be doing) now we have to think of the children and our poor education system. It's a bit hard to believe that this position is purely from a position of selflessness.

Well I can't remember if that was red's situation anymore because it's been awhile.

But that is how the automatic Unemployment (UE) changes worked.

It was most commonly an issue in conjunction with the Earned Income Credit (EIC). If his original total income, counting all of the UE benefits, put him out of the range of claiming EIC, it would not have been on his original return. And if removing the first 10,200 of UE benefits as income put him below the threshold to claim EIC then it's something that would not automatically be added.

The automatic UE changes:
-Looked for accounts with original 2020 tax returns that included UE Income.
-Compared the UE claimed to the income documentation that was reported to us by your state's UE office.
-If the entire UE was claimed, we removed the first 10,200 from the return. (people who didn't file until after march were able to include the reduction themselves with their original return)
-After removing that income tax is recalculated, and the various credits already claimed were recalculated.
-Credits not yet claimed were not calculated in this change.

This is possibly because total income is only one of several things that could possibly disqualify someone from claiming a credit so we would still need the specific person to verify that they meet all relevant requirements.

But for a variety of reasons amended returns have become backed up to the point that they are averaging 7+ months rather than the previous "16 weeks or less"

Anything requiring manual review is absurdly backed up.

If you file your 2021 taxes, and if you file them electronically, and if no errors are made that causes the new taxes to need to be reviewed, then your new taxes will process very swiftly. Each year is stored separately so a delay on 2020 will not necessarily cause the processing of 2021 to be frozen as well.

If you filed a 2020 amended return that has still not completed processing then you will likely need to use your original information for your security questions when you attempt to file electronically, rather than amended.

It's worth noting that you were not supposed to file an amended tax return for the extra unemployment return, and that red did so anyways against IRS recommendations.

I thought red's situation was that the unemployment change qualified him for a credit that was not originally claimed? So without the amendment we would automatically change specifically the unemployment income + reduction of tax, but would NOT add the new credit that was not originally eligible.

Sounds like they aren't allowing exemptions just because someone is famous and really doesn't want the vaccine.

If you buy a cool looking NFT that wasn't created by the person who made the art, but rather by some other random guy, guess what? You just wasted money on something that no longer has value because it's not from the legitimate creator.

And yes, that means that the random person made money that should have gone to someone else, but anyone can already find a picture online and print it out of it and try to sell the poster/print that they made with it.

Marketplaces like OpenSea and Rarible should definitely do what they can to limit this behavior. And for their part OpenSea will put blue checkmarks on verified collections and will put warnings on unverified NFTs so you are aware of the risks.

They don't lose the right to their own artwork if someone makes an NFT out of it. They are free to make their own NFT out of their artwork as part of their own legitimate collection and sell it. The significant difference is that it can be difficult to litigate and prosecute people for that behavior if they are anonymous.

When I say digital artists can use NFTs to get proper compensation for their work I generally mean that if you wanted to support such an artist you could buy from a link that THEY posted on THEIR social media account linking to THEIR own NFTs that they created of THEIR artwork. That way even if I get an alert from OpenSea saying "we haven't reviewed this collection so proceed with caution" I can proceed knowing that it's from the actual person listing their own actual work.

Because that's why you should do research and due diligence before purchasing an NFT to verify that it is being sold by the legitimate party.

Or are you referring to people who have their wallets hacked and emptied of NFTs and cryptocurrency?
Because that's why you should be very careful and not give access to your crypto wallets to anyone.

This is why companies that grade collectibles post population reports. Transparency about the frequency of items at different condition levels is important. Existing on the blockchain provides full transparency.
