When I was younger I used dumber themes for everything I caught but I stopped bothering with what I wasn't using because it was wasteful. In Sword I sort of inadvertently stumbled into a theme of naming my Pokmon after bands/musicians because I saw lil emo Sobble and named him after Gerard from MCR... and at some point later on, probably when I got Toxel whose evolution is guitar themed and then named my Galarian Weezing after the brothers from Oasis it became a whole thing that I did on purpose now with Brilliant Diamond I set out intentionally from the start to do Simpsons names because I named my trainer for (diamond joe) Quimby --- For your Azuarc* .* At least Kupo has class and doesn't MESSAGE the people -Dr Pizza <cite>MoogleKupo141 posted [p:961614277] in When playi... Yes, I'd do "Who's a good doggie?" and whatnot but saying "Dog" in lieu of the actual name is an attack on the pet's individuality. This is why I find it a requirement to nickname any Pokemon I use. Then I burned out on the franchise after BW2 and return occasionally to rarely stay interested past the third gym in a given game. But I can sit there for 10 minutes trying to think of a good name before I move on. For Nuzlockes and randomizers, I go to Wikipedia and use the random and name them after whatever article pops up. It feels right for the format.
