And then some people decided some of those books were inconvenient and left them out.Deciding whether books are canon doesn't just come down to them being 'inconvenient', like if you actually look into apocryphal texts you'll see that their structure tends to be wildly different from the main bible. Even then, the actual church (Catholics) still catalogs the apocryphal texts, just places less importance on them. And when you're speaking of gnostic gospels, that comes down to the fact that the church took Jesus saying that he came 'not to abolish but fulfill the law' to mean the old testament books are valid, which by extension means that gnostic gospels talking about the demiurge and shit are incompatible. I'm not a Christian to be clear but you gotta give the church at least a little credit --- |
