I mean, Zelda's the name she's most known by regardless of nominations. This "outst the princess by outnominating Zelda" thing is a pretty funny and clever idea though, I will admit - especially with the potential victim being a contender for the #2 character on the site! It, uh, probably wouldn't be a good precedent to effectively allow people to have anti-nominations if they can beat the nominations of a popular character by nominating them under an obscure name and possibly guise, though. Rookie, Mr. L, Glenn, Iroquois Pliskin...there's no end to the mischief that could be done, so it probably won't happen. So I think your main hope would be that the latest Smash appearances or whatever are good enough to make SBAllen considering counting her as her own character.

I think the appropriate thing is for SBAllen to just count all the Sheik nominations as Zelda nominations since they're the same character and disqualify the nominations of anyone who tries to cheat the system there by nominating both.

Something really weird happened with Riku this year. That performance was entirely out of character for him.

People thought this was a good performance by Zard when we figured he was probably a near-elite even without his bandwagon/release day factor, but with Zard's true colors having since been revealed, this now looks really embarrassing for Riku and kinda foreshadowed his total bomb this contest.

And even with the possibility of a Zard drop since 2013, we've still seen Duke Nukem outperform that in 2010.

So I thought of some snubs not previously mentioned:
-Harvest Moon 64 probably trumps original Harvest Moon? Did anyone actually play the latter back in the day? That release date in the U.S. and Europe was brutally late for a SNES game. Never played anything in this franchise myself but I'd figure 64 is actually the nostalgic game here and the original is the one people tried later after enjoying other games in the series, and, based on gamefaqs average rating, probably didn't like quite as much. (Also, neither one is beating Starcraft)
-Not sure it'd be much stronger but Breath of Fire III is way more likely to make a bracket than II. Just considerably more people out there who swear by III to this day as one of their favorite PS1 games than would do the same for either SNES BoF.
-Super Punch-Out is a pretty good, sorta-well known game in a Nintendo franchise. It doesn't quite have the notoriety of its older brother and I don't think it's outright loved by many so it making the bracket might be dubious but it might make not-terrible filler. And hey, it's on the SNES Classic
-Terranigma never got a U.S. release despite an official English translation and it's kind of notorious for it but the game is very well-regarded and is the kind of niche SNES RPG thing I could see making the bracket, especially with Dragon Quest V and Seiken Densetsu 3 in there. It'd of course be really weak if it actually got in!

The Noble Nine generally taking up most of the 1 seeds makes it really hard for 1 seeds to get upset too early. Also, 2005 and 2006 had 8-seed instead of 16-seed divisions, the fourways had no official seeding at all, and 2013 had the wacky 27-seed divisions, so the opportunities are a lot more limited than you might think.

1 seed Dante in 2005 did lose in Round 2 to 5 seed Vincent, though.

Auron has probably dropped too, yeah. That performance on Geralt was fairly bad but Geralt was getting at least lightly rallied and you could maybe try to make some kind of bandwagoning argument.

I trust Sub-Zero to be pretty stable though and Auron's results on him this year weren't good!

I don't think Sonic ever fully recovered from Sonic 2006. For every Colors or Generations that people thought were pretty good there's an absolute bomb like Forces or Boom to draw more ire. I don't think this affects the secondary characters quite as badly; they don't carry the weight of that franchise's failures like the guy it's named after does. Mania was by all accounts great but it might be too little, too late for many -- and while Sonic's an icon, his games have never done great here.

Fourway Sonic sucked. 2010 Sonic barely outdid Luigi on Link, got an SFF match with Knuckles, an lol match with Lightning before her game was out in the west (he did worse on her than Dante did this year though!), and beat Kirby and Bacondorf. At the time people were happy Sonic didn't actually lose to the latter two, especially after Kirby had beat him in 2008. But he didn't outdo Bowser's number on Kirby this year by much and a relatively poorly-performing Mega Man this year slapped Bacondorf down a good deal harder despite the latter in theory having Breath of the Wild going for him. It's possible that 1-on-1 Kirby and Ganondorf (or at least Bacondorf) just weren't and aren't quite the quality opponents we figured they were. There's not much good information on Sonic in 2013 thanks to his 9pack generally either being newcomers or of unknown strength and then he ran into Mewtwo.

Point is, Sonic 2006 hit just after Sonic's last match in 2006 and I don't think he's ever looked quite the same since.

It's weird how there are so few remotely prominent old school 2D platformers besides the three series this topic was about where you actually want to jump on/into enemies. There's DuckTales and SNES Aladdin and...I'm not sure I can think of any others.

And I don't think ANYONE was claiming Draven had the contest won after Round 1. Only a few people (me among them!) considered him even a potential threat to Link at that point and most didn't take it too seriously until what Draven pulled in Round 2.
