I think a lot of people just don't really care for silent mains in their JRPGs at this point. Hence Crono's struggles despite Chrono Trigger's massive boost.

Kinda sticks out in an era where almost every big game has extensive voice acting.

Persona 4 might be the strongest non-Nintendo/Square JRPG we've seen. That or Tales of Symphonia. Persona 5 could land around that area too.

I'm not really using Sonic's x-stat numbers at all! His 2010 number might as well be out of thin air since he got SFFed, though I'll note that only outperforming Luigi by 1% against Link was PROBABLY a pretty terrible showing, and then yeah, he faced nobody remotely reliable in 2013 before running into Mewtwo.

~60% on Sub-Zero is just not the kind of performance you probably want to see out of even a bottom tier Noble Niner. If that's what 2010 stats project Sonic to get and you want to go with that, then I'm open to Sonic having just been bad that year too!

Even if Luigi didn't SFF Tails, that match probably places Tails around the fodder-line. Only 11% of gurus had Tails winning his fourpack, but most here surely knew before this contest not to high expectations for Chief or Drake, so the popular opinion must have been Tails wasn't going to win because he sucked too. So Tails being around the fodder-line can't be too bad compared to where most people thought he was.

I think Tails probably was SFFed a little though? Just eyeballing it, Bomberman's probably projected to get a pretty similar number on Bowser to the one Tails got on Luigi, likely suggesting they're close? As for Sonic, Geralt's weird eightpack and crazy Zelda boosts and Snake/Auron sprites make a lot of the characters he can be judged against this year kind of hard to trust but I maintain for now that he looks pretty bad when extrapolated against Sub-Zero, and I trust Subby more than almost anyone else to stay relatively stable.

Also note that Bub and Bob in Heroes and General Raam in Villains were 4chan's rally targets; they did some pretty good damage before going down.

Gamespot also did a best sidekick contest but that ended up a total travesty. Leon knew 4chan was going to try to mess with it and predicted accordingly. 4chan were wildly successful; I think they pushed most of their desired winners through already in the first round. As a result, Leon was #1 on the leaderboard going into the final match and had correctly predicted both of the finalists to get there but unfortunately he had Albert Einstein beating Launchpad McQuack instead of the other way around.

Ryu ~ Frog certainly shouldn't be a thing but no adjustment of Sephiroth based off Mario can wipe away that Ryu looked bad this contest thanks to barely outdoing Amaterasu against Sephiroth and barely outdoing Fox's 2010 result against Lloyd.

looks like Kefka is around the same strength he was in 2010.

thinking 2013 Kefka and GLaDOS might be frauds causing by having a really close wire-to-wire for second when the winner was obvious, and with the expert bracket giving who got second some actual stakes. Ike was behind them that year too, which would help explain why Phoenix looked so bad against Kirby. Wouldn't trust the likes of Altair, Zack, or Ryu Hayabusa to be consistent either; Zack in particular probably should have started dying off as Crisis Core got older. Lara Croft has looked good since but she at least potentially has being an icon and continuing to get new games as reasons to have gotten stronger since then, or maybe her and Altair had some overlap against Kefka.

Wasn't there something about the poll not accepting votes for several hours during the ASV of Sonic/Tidus? The wikia page doesn't mention it but I'm pretty sure I remember hearing something about that and the votals are really low compared to the next few matches before and after it even though you'd think Sonic vs. FFX would be a fairly good draw.

Replayed it a couple months ago. Great graphics and music, corny but charming voice acting, Alucard moves and controls pretty well (I don't like fighting games though so I despise the control inputs for activating spells and for me spells might as well not even exist), lots of places to explore and things to find.

But the the upgrades (not sure whether level ups or equipment was more at fault) combined with the exploration and degree of nonlinearity completely shatters any balance or difficulty curve and it means you're very likely to totally steamroll huge chunks of the game, including bosses. And yeah, that annoyed me. It could also be that some of those segments are just kinda poorly-designed stomps no matter what you have equipped or what order you do them in but I want to give the game benefit of the doubt! And I don't agree that the game would have been better if you took out the inverted castle and replaced it with nothing but that issue is extremely present there.

Been planning on giving it another go, fighting the bosses in the order the librarian lists them (presumably the intended one) with suboptimal equipment and minimal effort spent on unnecessary exploration to see if that improves the experience. I'll probably get to that this weekend. Also gotta finally give Richter Mode a real go but I'm not expecting much.
