I despise being called "buddy." It sounds condescending. It's something you'd call a child, or a dog, or a drunk person.

He's a perfectly normal gas station attendant that wants to touch your hand.

The phenomenon of people saying "buddy" and "man" and "dude" and similar things is really interesting. I don't do it in English but I do it in Spanish because everyone I learned Spanish from says "to" at the end of every sentence.

Customers and employees I saw for years before I transitioned suddenly pepper almost every sentence with man and are like thats just the way I talk and its like well it wasnt the way you talked before I presented fem but whatever I guess.

I hope it's not foggy where you are.

Just say it back when they say it to you. Makes it secretly fun for you, and it gives them a chance to hear what you're hearing in case they never caught on before.

I don't mind buddy from strangers at all.

But from acquaintances, I fucking hate it.

dude - have not heard this directed towards me since i was a teenager
bro - still get this somewhat
man - doesn't even register since usually the people who say it add it on to the end of every sentence more than the others
sir - throws me for a loop because it reminds me how old i am
friend - very neutral about but i think it's especially funny how nobody i consider a friend uses this
amigo - same
sweetheart - makes me feel like i'm 5
honey - don't think i've heard this in a while
miss - get this more than i would think but they usually correct themselves pretty soon after

I've generally stopped calling anyone "ma'am" because I got this complaint 75% of the time I used it

I've gotten "doll" a few times recently, and like it more than I would've guessed
