I voted for Biden, you have to be some Q follower to think political affiliation matters here at all

That you think voting for Biden is some sort of defense is kind of sad, actually.

You're an admitted Republican who turned on Trump (Fine, great whatever), but you're still willing to give Republicans way more of a pass and leeway than you've ever given to Democrats. It's what conservatives do. Just like people are willing to give Trump a pass on this whole "Sedition" thing, whereas if Obama incited people to invade Congress, those same Republicans would be calling for his head (rightly so). But your response to that would be "Same thing, both sides!' without any evidence that the Democrats would do the same in the Republicans position. It's this double standard and why I don't think Democrats should try to reach out to Republicans. Because Republicans don't want to be reached out to. They want to pull people closer toward them, without ever giving anything up and without really standing up for anything.

Short of actually convicting him (which won't come close to happening), there's nothing you can even do to try to fix the damage he's done to them.

On the surface, term limits seem like a good idea. (retire already, Feinstein). But it also limits what an effective lawmaker can do. It also potentially increases the influence of lobbyists because lawmakers will be more reliant on lobbyists (who'll continue to be there long after the congressman/senator is gone and have better relationships with more established congress members even though they haven't been there as long)

I'm fine however if Ted Cruz wants to voluntarily adhere to serving just two six-year terms. He just has to forego running for re-election.

I'd personally make it 2/6 and 4/3 so each is capped at 12.

12 years is way more than enough time, and you could always cap at 24 if you're an exceptional house member who then runs for senate.

Cori Bush is an excellent lawmaker. But she also lives in a Red State. Meaning she'd be capped at 12 years. Meanwhile, Ted Cruz is in texas so he can serve 12 years in congress, and 12 in the senate. Also, just because you represent your district well, doesn't mean the rest of the state leans your way. It's really limiting, and I don't think it really solves any issues.

He's led to a nice movement that probably wouldn't be possible with term limits. New ideas are stifled by things like term limits, because they take a lot of time to become accepted. Now we have Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jamaal Bowman, Cori Bush, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and more thanks to work Bernie did.

The old guard will simply handpick their replacements with endorsements, thus ensuring new ideas don't get advanced in the way they need to be. It'll stifle progress.

I mean, legislating is a skill and like all skills requires time to develop and that's one of my bigger issues with term limits. You put a cap on this and I think there'd be a bigger tendency for special interest groups like ALEC to grow even more powerful as more and more Congresspeople rely on just taking the bill text they write up (serving their own interests) because they just don't have time/skill needed to craft their own comprehensive legislation and that is very much not good.

The other problem is the fact that campaign season never fucking ends. The minute you win re-election you just start fundraising for the next. Especially in the House with its two-year terms. Money in politics is a huge problem here of course, but I also don't think it'd be quite as simple as looking to other democracies where they don't put up with that shit and campaign season is like literally three weeks and that's it (sometimes by law) because absent preventing "unaffiliated" SuperPACs from running shadow campaigns even if you manage to put campaign finance reform in place for the actual candidates I think you just shift where the money is going without changing much. Bad news there is I see basically 0 chance that a SCOTUS that is now noticeably more right-wing than it was for Citizens United does shit in this regard. Hell, they'd probably find a way to make it even worse somehow.

Term limits are a terrible idea. I'm much more in favor of mandatory retirement ages. If you're old enough to collect social security you're too old to be in Congress.

Yes I am aware this would force Bernie out. He's one man, and if his movement is going to mean anything it has to be able to survive without him.

I'd go with younger than 75 for senators and younger than 80 for representatives, though. 65 seems way too low for some reason (though it does about right as an age limit for president)

fun reminder again this is what we have in Canada - 75 for senators & Supreme Court judges (nothing for our House tho I believe)

of course our senate functions much differently in the first place (appointed, largely not affiliated with parties, broader regional division than just x amount per province) but hey
