Really seems like it would be smart to take advantage of R being less than 1 for a few more weeks and hold off, especially since the UK variant is here and we have a vaccine (that were failing) to distribute now...!

This story is actually being exaggerated by surprise...the far right.

Most businesses in California are still going to be closed by our tiered guidelines for reopening based on spread inthe area. LA county, basically the epicenter for the current pandemic, has our own stay at home order that was already more restrictive in most cases than the state.

Little of A, little of B. Our local news is making a huge deal out of it when its going to mean a small amount of businesses being able to operate at a small capacity. Some outdoor dining seems to be coming back in a few days.

But all of the "guess covid wasn't so bad after all" folks are all coming out of the woodwork again.

Its easy to say they should start their own party, but, for example, during the short period of time LtM said he was voting 3rd party, people called him as bad as MAGA for it

Someone in this topic series blocked me for voting third party.

Funny story, so I started a job in December. Its an incredible job that Im grateful for, but MAN does this company not give a shit about COVID.

Again, I voted on a number of things where my vote actually could have potentially mattered. This attitude is ridiculous. If I voted for Batman or Biden, the outcome would have been the same. Biden had a double digits polling lead in my state, well ahead of the margin of error. There was zero chance it would have made a difference.

There is a 0 percent chance your vote would make a difference on anything as a margin of 1 vote is exceedingly unlikely.

If you are going to go that route. Should have stayed home.

You are making an argument that it doesn't matter if someone votes third party if you are arguing one vote can't matter. There is a chance it can matter in a competitive election, and for me, the presidential election was not a competitive election in my state. And again, I did stay home. I mailed a ballot.

Third parties get benefits for reaching certain percentages and the country desperately needs more parties (and tiered voting), so voting third party is definitely okay even in the last election, assuming you are in a safe state.

If you can tell me any of those third parties deserved funding. They didn't.

What we need is better parties, not third parties that will just ruin current elections. Tiered voting, great. But if you give these third parties more money before getting tiered voting, you aren't doing any good in the first place.

You need to primary the establishment. Not push third parties that are never going to have a snowball chance in hell of doing anything.

Or establish ranked choice first. Until then 3rd parties are just proven toxic.

It's not just Manchin, it's also Sinema and others. We saw this under Obama, they have more than enough blue dogs to always have a bad guy to explain why we can't have anything nice, which leads to republicans killing it in the mid terms, which leads to blaming the republicans for why we can't have nice things. We are just gonna repeat this cycle forever.
