Dammit every time I see a music post, I want to check it lol. I'm a sucker for great final fantasy tunes. Cruising in the car in FFXV listening to old tracks was a great time.

ffxiv has an absurd amount of incredible music; don't worry about keeping up with current patch music, cuz you've got DOZENS of patches of equally good music to enjoy

even just base ARR music was enough to make this my favorite music of all time game until i discovered pso2

I basically try to jam all my abilities into one hot bar... its worked for mch and dancer...

Way I did it with Black Mage is that I had most of my main combat abilities on my main hotbar, and then I had another for AoE stuff. Felt pretty natural that way.

I think the only AOE abilities I have so far are quick nock and rain of death (and rain of death has a 15 second cooldown). This definitely could still work though. I guess the real answer is play around with things until I find something that works well.

Quick nock has been awesome, I use it all the time while traversing dungeons. And now that I read it also can re-up RoD, I'll have to have both of those on the same pad!

Don't know about apex arrow, but I assume that's not unlocked until later.

During mage's ballad the dot ticks can also reset RoD so it's very important to dot enemies during aoe as well. This is less important right now because the % chance is very low but it will keep going up and up as you level so you might as well start getting a feel for it.

It sounds like you're playing with a controller so unfortunately I don't have any hotbar advice for you

So I fought Garuda, with a couple FC members. That music is also pretty damn good. Avoided her shriek things by hiding behind the rocks, but I got killed by something later on. I don't think it was aerial blast, but it might've been. Got revived right away, and finished her off.

Cutscenes after were pretty cool, including the intrusion of the Empire. Uhhhhh is that literally Ultima Weapon from FF7?!?

Playing on KBM I can comfortably fit every job's complete kit, plus Sprint and often a macro or two on 3 hotbars, or 36 slots. So that can be a guide to how many hotbars you probably want to prepare for.

As a Controller player, there is a comfy way to fit everything combat related in 48 slots without ever having to use R1 to switch. Though I personally only use 32.

There are two settings:

1.Expanded Hold Controls (Character Configurations -> Hotbar Settings -> Custom -> enable expanded controls with L2+R2)

This badically makes it so you can access a hotbar by holding both L2 and R2. You can have 8 actions for L2>R2 and another 8 actions for R2>L2. I made it so that both ways go to the same hotbar, so that I don't have to think about the order I press R2 and L2. But you can make them separate if you want more actions.

2.WXHB (Character Configurations -> Hotbar Settings -> Custom -> Enable WXHB with simultaneous L2 and R2 double tap)

This makes it so you can access a hotbar by double tapping R2 and another hotbar by double tapping L2.

i know tons of controller players way better at the game than i am, but man, i could never get the hang of it in battle

controller's the best at fishing and crafting though. using macros and controller rumble, you can do both without ever having to tab back into the game!

...in fact, the main way i levelled fishing from like 10 to 70 was lighting pressing a button every time i felt rumble as i passed out at night

Healing is the only one I have a little issue with because of having to cycle through the party list instead of just clicking on who I want. But just takes practice.

i think one of the world first T5 clears (very first raid tier in ARR) had a sch that used controller

boggled my mind at the time because i had thought it was strictly worse, but the gcd time being so long in this game really does mean it's fine if you git gud

I wouldn't play FF14 without controller support. I tried mouse + keyboard and kind of hated it. Did pretty good parse numbers back when I did Raiding too, so I don't think it held me back.

it's ridiculous how much amazing music both xiv and pso2 manage to put out year after year, when games like wow maybe have one or two memorable tracks per expansion

dragon age: origins is one of my top 5 games of all time and i actually do not remember any music whatsoever from it

The Garuda soundtrack has some creepy vibes, which makes sense.

Only other primal thats been mentioned, aside from Ramuh, is Leviathan. I assume Shiva will make an appearance at some point, and Ultima Weapon (or whatever the empire called it) I assume will be a big fight at some point. How close am I to being done ARR? I assume not at all yet?

ARR is up to level 50. You might have to do a bit of actual grinding near the end, since story quests stop giving absurd amounts of XP around level 45ish.

Im level 46 right now, and I think the Garuda quest was level 44? Might have been 45. So Im a little closer than I thought

There's a ton of ARR postgame too after the credits roll (it was probably about as long as the 1-50 content, though it's been condensed somewhat in a recent overhaul)

There used to be 100 story quests between the end of ARR and the start of Heavensward, but that's been cut down to like 80ish.

If you aren't already, make sure you're doing Levelling Roulette every single day. It's a large chunk of experience for very little effort.

IIRC I had to grind 1 level to go from 47 to 48 and another from 49 to 50. Doing one of the leveling roulettes was enough each time.

Don't do this. It's totally unnecessary considering the XP you get from story quests. You only need to do it when your level isn't high enough to do a main story quest (which should happen 2 to 3 times at most).

I'd agree you shouldn't do it on your main class, but if you ever try another class, it's definitely worthwhile

all of the roulettes (except for guildhest roulette) are designed to be pretty high rewards in exchange for ensuring there's no unreasonable queue times for content in the game for other players

So for the levelling roulette, do that for a secondary class/job, not my main one?

If you're actively focused on leveling another class, yeah. Don't feel obligated to do the roulette every day just because you feel like you have to.

I haven't done it yet, since I haven't really needed to. Always been ahead of the level of the MSQ. Though it's closer now than it's been for a while, with it being at 44 I believe, and I'm 46.

This is probably the tightest its going to get (this being now until level 50), I would imagine. The entire section after a realm reborn until heavenward are level 50 quests, so that'll start to give you an exp buffer for the next expansion.

gearing will also become a lot easier after you hit 50, by the way

you start getting a currency exchangeable for gear that outpaces everything at each previous level cap (50/60/70), primarily for doing roulettes or clearing content for the first time

Clearing content for the first time should pretty much give you enough for a full set of gear in most cases.

It's a bit farther off but after beating the initial 50 story there are a ton of level 50 sidequest dungeons and trials to do before you even unlock those roulettes.

In particular keep an eye out for the Crystal Tower sidequests which give a ton of poetics, unlock the Alliance Roulette (another good source of EXP and tomes), and actually have a major plotline.

Just leaving the empire place that we infiltrated. A few notes:

• So the weapon is indeed called Ultima Weapon. As it should be. As long as it doesn't fly around later on forcing me to chase it to different areas lol
• When they mentioned Gaius meeting with his guest, I had a feeling it was Thancred. Though I didn't realize he was Lahabrea also, that was interesting.
• Just on the airship back, Minfilia calls someone. Her name is Krile?! FF5 reference time apparently.

It is, though the actual character is buried deep inside a very grindy sidequest most people ignore

There is a surprising amount of FF5 fanservice in the game considering how often that one gets overlooked. The devs have good taste.

So apparently Thancred is being possessed by Lahabrea and that's how it works? Unsure, but basically getting riled up to go take on Ultima Weapon (which looks fucking badass).

Also, this is the first time I'm not the proper level for the MSQ, as I need to be 49, and I'm currently 47.

Crystal Tower is required for MSQ now! It won't let you progress to Heavensward until you clear it.

Got some time to play today, so will likely try the roulette, maybe find a few side quests to do. Ill try and fill out my hunting log also, Im on rank 3 for archer/bard I think.

Do hard versions unlock at a certain level, or are they unlocked now? Is "hard" just a harder difficulty, or are other mechanics in play? Done some quests to unlock some optional dungeons (though one I don't have a high enough ilvl for).

"hard" mode versions for ARR means level 50 versions of content you do while levelling up; primal trials are usually unlocked in the waking sands somewhere, and hard mode dungeons are all over the place. look for any quests with blue markers; tamtara HM is from a quest in uldah's steps of nald. you have to have completed 2.0 story and seen ARR's credits

hard mode trials are just amped up versions of the story versions, but you can pretty much consider hard mode dungeons to be entirely different dungeons with a similar setting. after ARR there's only two versions of each fight instead of 3 though
