Yeah I was nervous for doing MP dungeons as well, but it's been pretty issue-free (aside from my one death, which was completely from me not paying attention lol). You can even quickly toss in the chat that you're new when it first starts. Definitely not required, but I did it so that if I was with some vets, they'd know I'm not really sure what I'm doing.

You'll die plenty of times throughout a playthrough, especially against later bosses. Vast majority of people don't care, especially if you ask questions and learn. Can count on one hand the amount of jerks I matched up with in FF14 Party Finder.

Is duty finder or party finder better to use normally?

Party Finder's more for high level optional content. Duty Finder is what you'll use for anything in the story, and most of the regular optional content.

Oops, actually meant to say Duty Finder. Party Finder people take a bit more seriously as people are searching for people with specific requirements (and often doing high-end content). For someone just playing through the story, Duty Finder is the way to go.

Done a lotta quests around Little Ala Mhigo. Annoying little place to navigate, even though it's small. Up to level 34, one more level to do the first real bard quest!

Certain bosses its actually surprising if you DONT die. The Titan fall is one that springs to mind.

Only mount I have right now is the chocobo given in a quest, and it's currently stabled. Thank god for teleport though, definitely been super helpful!

Just hit level 35, gonna go do the first bard quest!

Originally you had to shut all four lamps off or the damage would be too great to keep up with. Nowadays most people are synced down from level cap and so leaving some on doesn't really matter anymore.

The dungeon navigation thing is true but thankfully (or not depending on how you look at it) after level 50 you find most dungeons don't have any extra paths so it doesn't matter any more. They're also adding a dungeon explorer mode on Tuesday so you can go in and look around at your own leisure.

Lastly you should definitely keep up with your bard quests because unless something changed you get a lot of important skills from them.

Just hit level 36 from the Haukke manor quest, so gonna do the bard quest next. Something about fighting angry forest spirits, and my reward is a new ability.

Did a whole bunch last night. The fight with Aiatar was crazy, as he kept targeting me with his poison grenade breath thing. Ended up dying right before the rest of the party killed him.

Got all the way up to the next primal fight too! Titan was definitely a fun fight, even though I got encased in his rock tomb once. Also, after his heart shatters, the music goes hardcore and its fucking awesome.

Though unfortunately, Minfilia is captured and the empire murdered a whole bunch of people at the Waking Sands, so now time to do something about that!

My girlfriend was playing Stardew Valley on her laptop beside me, with its calming music and such, and mine just goes crazy. Shes like I didnt know you were fighting against a rock concert. I dont think she realized rock irony/pun lol.

It excites me that there are more tracks that are going to be awesome. Im a sucker for good video game tunes!

It's not going to take him anywhere near this long to get there if he's just playing casually, but yes there's quite a bit of game available for you to play. I like to think of FF14 less as one game and more of a Final Fantasy subseries, with A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers being direct sequels of each other. Each expansion is almost as long as a mainline game even if you're just playing casually.

It's kinda like 8 games even, since the post-game patches are so long.

Took me just about 300 hours to do everything (with one class) up to 5.3 (where the game currently is).

Not gonna click on the spoilers (obviously), but I am a sucker for remade/remastered themes of my favourite past songs.

For example, in FF7 Remake, when fighting Jenova Dreamweaver, the first two phases are kinda creepy themes with hints of the original theme. But when phase 3 hit, and the actual theme hit with it, holy fuck was I hyped. I literally went into the action menu just to listen to it for a few seconds, while getting goosebumps.

Did a bunch of MSQ stuff today, got up to level 43 bard. Trying to navigate my hotbars and putting things where I need them (playing on a PS4). Also fuck that quest where you have to kill the fake inquisitor. That leader knight dude kept dying. Eventually I just focused the adds at all times, and he was able to stay alive because the dragon aggroed me. I also killed the wyrmhounds before they murdered the archer in my winning run.

My next mission is to go to Stone.........something. Stone Vigil I think. Also, Garuda has been mentioned and may not be far off. Making some form of progress?

Setting up a comfortable hotbar is important. Eventually you'll have enough abilities where you'll have an off-GCD to use most of the time. Do you know the difference between a GCD and off-GCD move? It doesn't really matter at your point but it can't hurt to understand the concept.

The most important thing you can do in this game is always keep your GCD going. That's where the majority of your power comes from, and it sets the tempo for the rest of your rotation. There's a specific order you want to do things at the start of the fight, but everything usually aligns if you mash it as soon as possible after that.

You should never use more than two oGCDs between a GCD though, or one if your ping is bad. Three oGCDs definitely will delay your next GCD a little.

Are venomous bite and windbite stackable? My guess would be yes, since they both do different kinds of damage, but unsure. Next step is still setting up my hotbars relatively optimally, since I doubt they are right now.

Did some more MSQ stuff today. Also did the level 45 bard quest that gives rain of death, and then the next that gets the bard gear from 4 different places. Those were fun, and my ilvl is a bit higher now.

Up to level......46 I think. Lady of the Vortex is my next quest, and I'm right outside the Howling Eye (after doing fetch quests for the wrong type of crystals twice). Harder than Ifrit and Titan?

You can (and eventually definitely should) add at least one more hotbar. Three is enough for most classes, but some might make you drop a button or two without a fourth (assuming you also put stuff like a mount and return on them).

I kept the default one, with logs, inventory, character, etc. on it (adjusted some things). Have one fully filled with abilities and such, and some abilities are building up a second one. I've put the ones I don't use on that one currently (the grazes and repelling shot for the moment). Venomous shot was there initially, but now it's not since it stacks with windbite.

I guess it's moreso the switching between hotbars with R1 multiple times, though that shouldn't be a huge deal at all really. Just not used to it.

i recommend making a shared hotbar with all the overworld stuff on it (chocobo, etc). keeps all that together across classes

i also found it helpful to group abilities by type. that is, buffs on right dpad, ogcds on right dpad, rotation opener on right face buttons, and left face was for more rotation stuff if needed or other stuff. granted this was years ago so theres more abilities and things have changed so maybe not helpful

One of these days I need to look into how to use the post-50 skills (DRG main). Im still on early Heavensward stuff and well outleveled for it so so it hasnt mattered yet but I know thats going to change eventually.

drg is a lot simpler than it used to be! for gcds, you essentially just rotate two combos now. dragon meter feels a bit strict while levelling but it gets super forgiving later on

you dont have all of this yet, but this is generally what is starts to look like as you unlock more skills. essentially you just spam 123 45 678 54 over and over

Switching between hotbars mid battle is something that comes with experience. Will become essential down the line though.
