I do kind of get why some places don't precount. If those numbers leak out it could have a noteable effect on election turnout.

Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, IIRC, are the two swing states that force them to wait until election day to count. So those two are going to be a mess and show a heavy Trump lean at first if I had to guess due to the disproportiate amount of dems voting early or by mail.

There are a handful of other states that allow counting to start within a week of election day, and then another group that lets you count them as soon as you get them. Either of those should be fine and less stress inducing

Actually, now that I think about it, I'm a little confused as to why it being counted on election day is an issue from that standpoint. I always hear about early vote counts being delayed but don't know why they would still not end up counted first even the day of. It's not like ballots cast on election day are going to have priority...or is it? Do they not get to start counting mailins and early voting until the polls close? And do they have to count day of ballots FIRST?

Though given that Fauci's not a political appointee he legally can't do it directly; I think he'd have to order whoever the relevant political appointee is to do it for him, and then Fauci would have some legal recourse.

I'm not an expert but historically what happens is that the results just take a long time to process, and typically that means write-ins and early votes get processed irregularly or later. The actual labor to quickly do this on the night of the election doesn't exist. What you typically see is not usually enough to significantly alter the results but margins closing or widening over a period of days- which in close races can make a difference.

For a more recent example you can look at the primaries where it took days or even weeks to get the final votals. And some of that was due to fuckery, and a lot of it was just because that's how it is.

Full Iowa is maybe an exaggeration, but extend something similar to the entire country.

Some states are allowed to count them early. Some states can process them early. Some states can verify them early. It all depends on the states. The problem with PA and Wisconsin is that they can't do anything until election day.

I'm actually not convinced that should be illegal.

I'm obviously not okay with threatening specific people like that, and it should probably be tied to the policy rather than the candidate. However, it's unavoidable that the policies of different candidates could have significantly different effects on particular industries, and as an employee I would want to know more or less what those effects are and what my company would do as a result.

Nah, you do that if the policies actually go into play and it's an imminent thing, or you say it "may" be a thing. Doing it the way people like that are doing it is straight up trying to threaten people into voting a certain way.

That is what the oil and coal industries sound like to me.

And it isn't even so direct as "Biden will order coal plants to close". It's more like "Biden will stop the process of throwing free money at Fossil Fuel investors in the form of subsidies". So it isn't even just "the government is going to invest more heavily in cleaner energy" and more "the government is threatening to stop giving us free money to exist".

I do have a certain amount of empathy for anyone who's livelihood depends on a fossil fuel job, but at a certain point the writing is on the walls and you have to prepare yourself for the eventuality that your industry wont exist forever and that's how it should be.

The workers as a collective are obviously not being threatened because the firing is not an act of retribution; it's a legitimate response to changing market conditions that necessitate a different mode of operation for their company. (At least in the general case I am considering. I don't know the details of this specific case but if you're saying it has to be illegal than there has to a compelling argument in the general case)

To be clear I don't think the fossil fuel business who will be impacted by a Biden energy plan are doing anything wrong to say that there will necessarily be layoffs if he is elected. That's just a very simple cause and effect playing out so there is nothing wrong with predicting layoffs based upon that.

My point is that it is OUR job as responsible citizens to respond by saying "Yes, that's right, your industry is going to diminish because it's becoming a relic of the past and not a preferred energy source for our future." and voting for Biden anyways.

If only Oil and Coal companies had an obscene amount of profit they could then invest into other forms of energy. If my business involving selling something that was quickly becoming obsolete I would be more concerned with adapting my business to a new product that ISN'T going to be obsolete. The loyalty should be to the employees and the company, and not to make sure all the rocks they are digging up will get to feel useful some day by being burned.
