Biden's Twitter handler apologizes, you mean.

Kinda gross he keeps getting a pass for saying shit like this.

Edit: And before the predictable "But Trump" argument, he's a racist piece of shit too. Just because one allows his campaign looking out for him more doesn't mean he's less racist. These guys both suck and it's gross these are our options.

First of all, that is whataboutism. Second of all, you have to interpret Trump was racist when he said things or twist them to get that meaning. That said, neither is likely racist anyways. It is just funny that the people claiming Trump is racist are going to twist things around and jump through hurdles to claim Biden isn't for more outright comments.

People are too apt to toss the racist cards nowadays.

The strange thing to me is that what Biden said is actually not racist at all, just very poorly phrased. But he has a massive history of saying things that are extremely racist that nobody really seems bothered by. I think people get way too caught up in the election to be fair about these things, for example: the people saying it doesn't matter who Biden picks for VP because the only thing that matters is defeating Trump. It definitely matters, and will have massive impact on the future, and people should be able to be critical about his choice. That doesn't mean you should change your vote to Trump over his VP selection. Similarly, you can find Joe Biden to be someone who is constantly saying things that betray his age and biases and still prefer him to Donald Trump. There isn't any reason to pretend otherwise, the argument behind voting for Joe Biden should be that he is a malleable improvement, not that he is good, because that is a losing argument.

pretty sure LotM isn't making the argument that what biden said isn't racist. he's saying trump is far more racist than biden and to equate the two is a false equivalency.

Yeah the way I see it, Trump's racist and misogynist rhetoric gets him popular with people tired of "political correctness gone mad". Which has basically been discredited as a particularly big problem by now.

I don't think 'incredibly' is fair to use. He's definitely got some racist tendencies. But I think rather than an issue of malice, it's a case of ignorance. Hopefully his VP choice and his handlers are able to course correct him. And I think that he's willing to be corrected means that it's unfair to use 'incredibly' here. Because someone who's incredibly racist isn't willing to listen when they get called out. They double down.

Except the one who invoked Trump in the first place was the one who was calling Biden racist to to begin with. Most of this arguing seems to have been over the word choice to equate them on a spectrum of racism.

"But Trump is more racist" isn't being used as a means to argue Biden did nothing wrong/can't be criticized for his comments. It's being argued because "Just because one allows his campaign looking out for him more doesn't mean he's less racist." was introduced as a statement and it's being challenged that "Uh, yeah, one of these two can be and is more racist."

That's not a defense of Biden. ...Has anyone defended Biden here? But just because Biden's comments were awful doesn't provide grounds for someone to just slip in "and he's just as awful as Trump." There's a spectrum here it's not a binary "not racist-racist" switch that flips and Trump is way over in the deep end.

Biden has made a number of racist comments, that's not really at debate here. It's that that doesn't automatically place him in the same stratosphere as "very fine people on both sides" who is literally trying to bring back redlining as we speak.

He can't extend the boosted unemployment benefits. Congress allocates funds, not the Executive. I don't think he can suspend payroll taxes either (he could probably stop enforcing any punishment for nonpayment, but without Congress those taxes should still be owed).

I'll sort of defend Biden. I think it was here I saw someone say his racist remarks are from ignorance, not malice. And I agree with that. I think he listens and tries to learn, to varying success.

Is that ultimately better? I guess it's not my place to judge that, but I feel infinitely better about that than maliciously racist like Trump.

Edit: I also think I fall into (almost?) all left leaning posters here in that Biden was not my choice and probably wouldn't have even made the top 10 of candidates in the primary.

But I am still going to support him fully now.

Well, this is why it's concerning. If he just does it and dares Congress to sue him...... this is how executives gain power.

And of course, there is already precedent set by DACA that the President can do whatever he wants in the guise of regulating enforcement of the laws.

Oh, you guys are still talking about what I said.

I should clarify: when I said "Just because one allows his campaign looking out for him more doesn't mean he's less racist." I meant that independently of Trump, but I can see the confusion. Like Biden says a racist thing and just because his campaign goes "God fucking damnit here's an apology we're throwing out," and he allows an apology to happen, it doesn't mean he's any less of a racist POS. I was referencing LOTM citing that "well at least he's apologizing" when it doesn't matter that he's apologizing, especially since he's 'clarifying' instead. They were specifically talking about the Latin community and immigration and he just throws out the African American community for no reason here to compare them.

Outside of here, plenty of people have been defending Biden and making excuses for him constantly. He's just racist, that's my point. We have to vote between two racist people for this election, and it's gross.
