Bill Clinton or Obama would have made a full apology, and they would have sounded sincere. Trump would have said every single last person he prosecuted was a dangerous criminal and he did a great job protecting the people from them. Hillary's emails and Benghazi won't be front and center - they weren't in 2016 either. They will be talked about as a side issue.

The reason I'm fine with anyone other than Trump is because the difference between Trump and basically every other candidate is so overwhelmingly large that the most sensible option is whatever non-Trump candidate has the best chance of winning. The differences between other candidates really do not matter to me right now.

I do think Rice would be unnecessarily reviving all the Benghazi-era stories and while the idea of that actually happening in 2020 is absolutely absurd I don't really see the value in doing so. Nominate her for Secretary of State instead if Biden is a fan.

Dunno how much my thinking here is motivated by thinking Harris is a better VP choice though.

At a certain point, if Biden is still considering Rice, even knowing all her baggage, there has to be a good reason.

The bottom line is that no one is perfect and EVERYONE has baggage of some sort in their past that will be dragged out and excoriated by the opposing party. A person's past only defines them if they let it. If they're able to grow from those experiences and become a "better" person, that's what's important.

i don't think anyone is saying "harris is good" (besides LotM maybe).

what people are saying, however, is "harris isn't worse than biden so if biden goes to a nursing home/dies/whatever and harris becomes president, we're not worse off, at least." seems like a reasonable position.
