This has people locally in an uproar. Here are the counter arguments for it I have been seeing.

1. Cases are from protesters not patrons.

2. Wolf supported protests with no social distancing and is now cracking down on bars providing jobs to people.

3. How does having a soda or water instead of a beer change the covid-19?

4. Hospitalizations are still steadily falling in the area and not rising, yet wolf is overreacting and reinstituting bar bans.

5. People will just go over county lines to drink now and DUIs will rise.

6. Wolf is trying to force people to buy liquor from the state stores to increase state profits at expense of bars and restaurants.

Just when I thought Florida's handling of COVID couldn't surprise me anymore...

Me and the missus have an appointment for a COVID test this morning. We have an email confirmation. We arrive at the testing site and after circling for 20 minutes we can't find it. It's like it isn't there. We talk to a Walmart employee nearby and they say it closed down a while ago.

Well it would have been fucking nice to maybe let people who had appointments know this? We booked our appointment 12 days ago and my missus needs the test to be able to go back to work.

Keep in mind cases in this county are still rising every day so why they would close a testing site is beyond me

It's her daily podcasts basically.

I was able to view it in incognito and not logged in so I dunno.

Also she is a former newscaster but also a current kdka radio host. So she isn't like just off on her own. That's one of the major and probably biggest local news station.

What they really mean is that testing at that rate got too expensive.

Someone my missus knows told her today that even now a long time after she has recovered from COVID, she still has residual effects. She says she still gets chest pains, headaches and asthma like symptoms. Which does not fill me with confidence given I still get random chest pains (and have previously had double lung surgery / pleurodesis)

Of the young people that I know that had symptoms, fatigue seemed to resolve after a month (the guy couldn't work out during that time) and the other two took about two months to get sense of smell back and see the 'smaller' symptoms start to recover.

i've glanced at some reports that say that even those with asymptomatic cases could have long-lasting lung damage

my mom's test came back negative. so that's one less thing i have to worry about

Yeah the truth is we have absolutely no idea of what the lasting effect of COVID on the body will be until twenty years later so people need to do everything they can not to spread it. But they wont.

It's a biiiig problem that COVID is causing damage that will end up counting as preexisting conditions at a time when the current administration is specifically trying to get rid of protection for preexisting conditions.

A few of the long-lasting effects of some people who recover from COVID-19 aren't unique to the virus, but a few of them definitely aren't. Stuff like chronic fatigue and instigation of type-1 diabetes can happen with other severe viral infections. But when you have the sheer number of people getting infected like is happening now, even a small fraction can amount to a very large number of people.

The damage to lungs and other organs likely from endothelial dysfunction and clotting are clearly the major difference. I expect that given enough time the vast majority will fully recover from these problems, but there's the awful risk of someone recovering and still being killed by a pulmonary embolism months later.

This doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The Six Flags in the Bay Area has it's zoo open. My housemate took his kids there yesterday. Unless they're talking about the wider shutdown happening again soon?

No. Read the article. They haven't been allowed to open even though they feel they should be allowed to. They are appealing to please open cuz they are down to their last 3 million in emergency funds then entirely bankrupt.

Just did more research.

The zoo was allowed to open on July 1, then Newsom ordered zoos (and other non-essential operations) 3 days to close, which fell in line with my housemate taking his kids to the Six Flags zoo yesterday, but everything being mandatory to being closed today. I looked and the Oakland Zoo was open yesterday, but not today. So I was right.

I have a friend who worked at the Cincinnati zoo and got laid off at the start of this. Working with animals is his passion, but it's looking uncertain when he can go back to working at any zoo at this rate.

nobody is saying that you're a selfish idiot for caring. i've been critical of lockdown measures in this topic and i've never been called anything like that.

pretty sure the only people who get called "selfish idiots" are the ones who are going "yeah covid is a big deal but people die anyway so WHO CARES it's a great injustice that i can't go to a bar."
