158. Inside Amy Schumer

Seen: First season

Initially I had this higher on the list, but lately my views on Amy Schumer's humor have been... declining, to put it nicely. I watched the first season of the show and definitely enjoyed most of it. Then I saw numerous examples of her ripping her jokes off from other comedians. It was more disappointing than anything, and has left me pretty unsure of what to think about the show (and Schumer in general).

157. New Girl

Seen: First couple seasons, I think?

This is a show I actually do want to go back and watch more of. I do really like Zooey Deschanel as an actress, and I enjoyed the humor pretty consistently. I can't even remember where I stopped watching, or why I stopped watching, because I used to be a fairly consistent fan. Still, as much as I liked the show for a time, now thinking back, I can barely remember it, despite watching multiple seasons (I think?). I guess after awhile my interests moved to other shows, and New Girl just fell under the radar for me. Has anyone watched the later seasons? Is it worth going back to?

156. The Amanda Show

Seen: most of it

This, on the other hand, is a show I really want to go back and rewatch, because I've got plenty of fond memories of it. Moody's Point, the parody of teen dramas, Stranded: In A Car, the parody of awful reality shows, and Blockblister, which was probably my favorite. It was a slightly offensive knock-off Blockbuster that only rented out horrible homemade foreign versions of movies (like Be Kind Rewind, but with more terrible accents). The show was inconsistent at times, and the acting wasn't exactly exceptional, but the characters were goofy, and it absolutely aligned with my sense of humor back then.

155. iCarly
154. Drake & Josh

Seen: Most of both

Just gonna do these write-ups as one, because what I like about the shows is basically identical. Hell, they've got overlapping casts, and they're made by the same guy. Honestly if they had just named Carly "Megan" they easily could've sold iCarly as a direct spinoff of Drake & Josh. When it comes down to it, they're both just really fun shows. Drake and Josh was one of TeenNick's most standout shows back when I was their target audience, and once my little sister became the target audience, iCarly had taken its place, and I enjoyed watching that about as much as I had enjoyed Drake and Josh. There's a really cool growth you can see between the shows watching them chronologically, both in Miranda Cosgrove as an actress and Dan Schneider as the creator. Jerry Trainor's bigger role in iCarly was especially great, having loved his minor part in Drake & Josh. In hindsight, I feel like both should've been a little higher on the list.

153. Mary Shelley’s Frankenhole

Seen: Season 1

I mentioned way back that The Oblongs was one of those bizarre adult swim shows I would only watch very late at night, when I was tired and everything was funnier. Frankenstein is one of my all-time favorite novels, so the idea of a stop-motion Frankenstein comedy immediately grabbed my attention, and I totally got a kick out of it. It's not a particularly deep show, but it was exactly the sort of late night irreverent humor I was looking for at the time. I don't think about it much, and in fact almost completely forgot it existed before making this list.

152. The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius

Seen: Almost all of it, I think

Ok, I'll admit, some aspects of this show aged kind of badly. At its worst, the animation is bizarre and wacky, existing in the early days of 3D animation. Characters like Sheen and Carl who used to seem funny can a little too often lean on the side of annoying or even grating. Still, a lot of the humor here remains. Jimmy's dad is fucking hilarious in literally every scene he's in. The relationship between Jimmy and Cindy was surprisingly well-done (and is in fact one of the earliest mentions of "shipping" I can recall hearing in my life). The inventions were creative, the villains unique, and many of the jokes memorable. It's a show that's easy to overlook now, but I always enjoyed it for what it was.

151. Love

Seen: Season 1 and like 2 episodes of Season 2

Unfortunately, when I think of this show, I often think of my issues with it. Namely, Paul Rust as Gus. Paul Rust is one of the main creators, writers and producers, and of course, he also stars as the awkward nerdy guy who's also a giant douchebag and ALSO is just constantly surrounded by hot women just begging for his junk. Paul Rust just doesn't really work for me as the lead here, and it strikes me as Rust just trying to write himself as the most desirable person in existence, and it's a shame, because it's really the only thing distracting me from what is overall a very good show. Gillian Jacobs and Claudia O'Doherty both give excellent performances throughout, the examination of how relationships build and fall apart is intelligent, and certain scenes (particularly, the group of friends creating theme songs for movies that don't have any) and incredibly relateable.

150. Johnny Bravo

Seen: A bunch

Sorry this one was left out of the "next time" shows; somehow I overlooked it. I don't have a TON to say about Johnny Bravo. The title character is basically an icon of classic Cartoon Network, the supporting cast was consistently funny and did well with grounding Johnny (because without them, Bravo himself would quickly become intolerable). It's a show that might decrease upon rewatch, but my memories of it at the moment are all solid.

149. TRL: Total Request Live

Seen: A few years worth of it

This was THE after school show for me, and for basically an entire generation. It was one of the last remaining pillars of classic MTV before the music that made it popular was ultimately scrubbed from the airtime. I would watch it just about 5 times a week, as it always aired just when I got home from middle school. It was before internet became easily accessible everywhere, where the places one could watch new music videos were limited. I remember seeing the #1 spot shift from Beyonce's "Irreplaceable" to The Fray's "How to Save a Life" to AFI's "Love Like Winter." Hell, just the thought of the show brings back such a massive rush of nostalgia that I'm tempted to put on Decemberunderground and jam out.

Is there anyone who doesn't like Family Feud? There's not much to say about it; it's a formula everyone knows by now. It's funny, Steve Harvey's been doing a great job as host for like 7 years now, and while it's never a show worth following, it's always fun.

147. Who Wants to Be a Superhero?

Seen: Season 1, some of season 2

I can't imagine most people here have actually watched this show, but goddamn, my family got a kick out of it. It's Stan Lee's reality TV show, where grown-ass adults dress up like superheroes and do silly challenges in order to try to get a comic book written about their OC. Honestly, the fact that this got cancelled was a shame; it was exactly the type of ridiculousness that reality TV needed. Here's a couple of the better heroes from the first season:

Cell Phone Girl (Chelsea Weld; 22) (La Crescenta, California) can teleport from one active cell phone to another. Her eyes can take digital photos and can download any information available on a computer (e.g., learn Japanese on the fly). She can use her cell-phone waves to move physical objects and shoot fires beams from it.

Monkey Woman (Mary Votava; 28) (Seattle, Washington) has the skills of a monkey and can speak monkey as well. She has high-tech weapons and gadgets disguised as bananas and wields a bamboo staff. She changes into her costume in a tree, as long as it covers her whole body.

Ty'Veculus (E. Quincy Sloan; 34) (Bakersfield, California) has super-strength, speed, fire resistance, and always detects lies because he can only hear the truth.

Fat Momma (Nell Wilson; 42) (Los Angeles, California) can grow to five times her normal size when she gets angry, she has other abilities that can be activated when she eats a doughnut.

146. Wizards of Waverly Place

Seen: Most of it?

In hindsight, I'm not entirely sure how this ended up ahead of Drake and Josh (which I'd put around the same place, maybe higher upon rethinking) but regardless, it's one of Disney's better modern live action shows. It singlehandedly made Selena Gomez's career, and not undeservingly. It's basically like someone wrote a fanfiction about Harry Potter background characters, and turned it into a well-acted, moderately-budgeted family show. This follows a similar formula as some of the lower ranked Disney shows, with a single female main focus and a close-knit mixed bag family supporting her, but here it just works better.

Seen: The first season or two

Alright, so the main kids themselves are fine, but what really makes the show shine is Dr. Doofenschmirtz (did I spell that right?) and Perry the Platypus. Dr. D is one of the most hilarious villains to come out of Disney's TV (not that that's saying much) and makes a hard contest against some of their better film villains as well. The interactions are consistently funny, and the fact that the rest of the show is all solid makes it that much better.

144. Code Lyoko

Seen: At least first two seasons; can't remember if I saw the 3rd.

This show has its issues, but it was also kind of ahead of it's time. This is another I used to watch with my little sister, but we were both hardcore invested in it, dying to see what might happen next (even if each episode essentially followed a strict formula). XANA does something shitty, the characters fight it in the real world, then Aelita fights it in the digital world, then deactivates the tower and everything goes back to normal. Honestly, watching the show feels like playing a Ubisoft game (in a good way, kind of?). The mix of 2D and 3D animation straight up blew my mind as a kid (and in hindsight, is damn impressive given when it came out). But christ, those foreheads.

Anyway, since when have you been a parent and why didn't I know this already???

Did you ever tell me you had kids? I don't recall... but then again I have a habit of being forgetful sometimes. I definitely feel like this is new information to my ears (eyes) though.

And are you looking forward to June 19th? I certainly am. :P

142. Dexter’s Laboratory

Seen: a bunch

AH haha! HAhaHAhaHA haha! HAhaHAhaHA haha! There's a lot to love about this show. The Justice Friends and Monkey always made for great segments, and Mandark was one of my favorite Cartoon Network villains, with what is probably THE most definitive laugh I've ever heard. The episodes focusing solely on Dexter and Dedede were probably the weakest aspect if I'm being honest, if only because it did get quite repetitive. But when the show managed to mix things up, and it did often, it was a lot of fun.

141. Iron Fist

Seen: The 1 season

So it's probably no surprise, but expect to see the four Netflix Marvel shows on this ranking. Because there's no goddamn reason anyone would watch Iron Fist without having already seen Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Iron Fist is the weakest of the four, by quite a bit, but that doesn't make it a bad show. The show made goddamn sure you knew Danny Rand's name (it's Danny Rand, by the way) but I did like Danny Rand as a characters (did you know that Danny Rand is the immortal Iron Fist? You will!). The villains here were some of the least standout of all the Marvel shows, but I will give credit to Jessica Henwick for being fantastic the whole way though (her performance in particular makes me excited to see what ends up happening with her and Misty Knight, who could easily carry their own series.

140. Kim Possible

Seen: All of it, I think?

Hey, more Disney! Nope, not done yet! This is definitely a show that I wasn't in the demographic for... but goddamn, it was a good show. It was essentially a superhero show. It was the Black Widow tv series we deserve years before the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever started. The villains were hilarious, and Kim was badass. Hell, she was one of the most badass heroes on TV at the time, and nobody needed to make a big deal of how there was finally a female hero. There just was, and it was fantastic. Personal favorite villain will always be Senor Senior... Jr.

Like basically everyone, I was also underwhelmed by Iron Fist, but it at least held my interest through the season. The biggest problem with the show is I didn't really care about any of the characters.

I really enjoyed Iron Fist and thought it was way better than Luke Cage ended up being.

george lopez show, insomnia?

couldn't stand dexter's lab. kim possible was whatever. zero interest in iron fist.

who wants to be a superhero seems kind of awesome, though.
