110. Garfunkel and Oates

Seen: The one season

I'll be the first to admit, this show isn't perfect by any means. It's basically just an excuse to watch Garfunkel and Oates be funny. The show works because they're both hilarious comedy singers who occasionally do things in between matching videos to their songs. I already knew pretty much all of their songs prior to watching the show, so there wasn't much here to surprise me. But hey, more Garfunkel and Oates is more Garfunkel and Oates.

109. Broad City

Seen: First 2 seasons

I'll be the first to admit, these two can be annoying at times. But more often that not, they're both pretty damn funny. It helps a lot that Hannibal Buress is here, because he's delightful in like every scene he's in. It has an almost Always Sunny-vibe to it, with a couple friends having misadventures in the city, where most bad things that happen to them are mostly their own fault, and you kind of want to see them succeed but you also kind of want everything to backfire because they sort of deserve it. And the show also captured the feeling of earning money for the first time.

106. The Flash

Seen: First season, and about half of the second (still watching)

So I wasn't a fan of any means, but in general, I've always found The Flash to be a more interesting character than Green Arrow, so I figured I'd give The Flash a try. To my surprise, it's actually pretty good. Compared to Arrow, I found Barry Allen to be a more likable protagonist, I thought the fight scenes were a lot more exciting, and the little bits of humor were a welcome change from Arrow being all serious pretty much all the time. It's not a perfect show by any means, but as far as DC live-action CW superhero shows go, it's upper tier.

105. The Amazing World of Gumball

Seen: Season 1, and a few other assorted episodes

Honestly, the only reason this show is so low is probably because I haven't had the chance to see more of it; I hear it only gets better as it goes on. The animation is all over the place, and that's one of my favorite aspects of the show. It helps though that the writing can be hilarious, and while the family falls into typical sitcom stereotypes (smart mother, dumb father, super-smart little kid) I can appreciate that it always takes them to the extreme. The show might change art styles on a whim, or even perspectives, and it generally has a "we don't give a fuck but still genuinely care about this show" feeling coming from the creators.

104. The OA

Seen: Season 1

Ok, let me start by saying I KNOW why people might not like this show. It's... odd. I saw it because both my girlfriend and sister got obsessed with it, and I'll admit, it does some really cool things. The acting and effects are solid throughout, the mixing of religious beliefs of the afterlife and sci-fi is pretty enthralling, and the show is tense and captivating enough to keep you invested. I do wish they fleshed out more of the side characters aside from the OA herself, and I have mixed feelings about the season finale (as everyone does, though I dislike it less than most). It's definitely worth at least watching an episode or so of to see if it's for you.

Oh hey Home Movies.

Love that show. It's basically somewhat of an embellished biography of creator Brendon Small's childhood wanting to make movies.

He then went on to do Metalocalypse, including a ton of the voice work and almost all of the musical work.

Wonder if that'll be on here!

103. Aqua Teen Hunger Force

Seen: A bunch, mostly late at night

I suppose this falls into the stupid but still funny category. My tolerance for the show has varied quite a bit over the years, but at its peak, it was great. Carl is consistently funny, and I'd honestly watch the show solely for him. I feel like this is sort of the adult version of Amazing World of Gumball. It's one of the shows that really drew me into Adult Swim initially. Certainly beat out other Adult Swim shows I couldn't bring myself to watch a full season of, like Squidbillies and Moral Orel

101. Hercules

Seen: Most of both

So Aladdin and Hercules have always been two of my favorite Disney movies, hands down. Excluding Pixar, they're both easily top 5. So as a kid, I was plenty hyped to watch both regularly. Did anyone here ever watch the Hercules and Aladdin crossover episode? How cool was that shit! I'll be honest, it's been a LONG time since I saw either show, but I loved them as a kid. Just two badass Disney superheroes kicking ass every week. It was exactly the empowerment a young tv-loving child could go for.

Think Aqua Teen Hunger Force is the first thing you've listed where I actually feel disappointed in the ranking. Yeah there's a lot of buffoonery and it crosses over into bad from time to time, but generally a very good show to me... and yeah it's mostly for Carl.

What I think really makes it work most of all is that because the episodes are short even the bad episodes (and they exist to be sure) only end up being like 10 minutes so I never get that "ugh this is SO BAD" feeling when watching it cause the episode is mercy killed before you can really dwell on what a trainwreck the current episode has become.

100. Glee

Seen: First 4-5ish seasons, can't quite remember when I gave up on it

Favorite character: Burt Hummell

I know Glee gets a lot of hate, but the earlier seasons were legitimately excellent. I think the show started when I was a sophomore or junior in high school, and it actually captured high school life pretty well aside from the impromptu musical sequences. Over the years the show doubled down on the ridiculousness and character stereotypes, but in its early seasons, the show handled everything from being a closeted teenager to struggling with religious beliefs to juggling private and public identities. The highlight of the show for me was the relationship between Kurt and his father, who despite having little in common with his flamboyant, openly gay son, makes every effort to be an outstanding father. The moments between the two of them are fucking fantastic.

Seen: All but the last couple seasons

Favorite character: Patrick

I've talked enough about memes, but it's still hard to resist, because Spongebob has so many of the best ones. But without all that, you still have what is easily one of the most beloved children's shows of all-time. The first few seasons especially have some of TV's most memorable moments, hands down. Hell, the episode Band Geeks alone is so iconic and memorable that most of this board could probably all but quote the entire episode word for word, from "Big Meaty Claws!" to "Is mayonnaise an instrument?" to the ENTIRE finale song. You can outgrow kid shows, but you can't outgrow the original Spongebob.

98. 13 Reasons Why

Seen: The one season

Favorite character: Tony

I can see why quite a few people might have an issue with this show, and I do too. In particular, I have issues with some of the writing (how does it manage to make the teenage suicide victim come across as unlikable for so long? What kind of grown adult freaks out over swear words being written on a bathroom stall?) but that's easy to get past because the subjects it handles are heavy and handled better than most shows would probably dare to even attempt. That, and the cinematography is phenomenal. Using just minor visual cues, lighting shifts and goddamn excellent overall editing, it balances present with past without it ever coming across as confusing or muddled. But if I had one single complaint, it would have to be FOR CLAY TO LISTEN TO THE GODDAMN TAPES IN A TIMELY FUCKING MANNER LIKE A NORMAL PERSON.

I have a problem with Spongebob in that it completely overtook everything else on Nickelodeon, but it was great while I still watched it. Haven't seen an episode since I was like fifteen or something, though.

I'll admit, not every aspect of this show holds up. It's a little on the immature side. But who cares? That was the point! It's a show that really understood how it felt to be a kid. It was inspirational, and as a kid, it made me feel like I could actually make a difference. It made me feel like it wasn't wrong to not fit in with the other kids. There was one episode in particular, where the older kids essentially bet on kindergarteners like they're horses. Kind of a silly concept, but it results in Mikey (the heavyset character) befriending a younger heavy kid, and after working together the heavy kid manages to win the race against all odds, and at the end he shouts "We just as good!" It was moving.

96. American Dragon Jake Long

Seen: All of it

Favorite character: Jake

This is cued up as one of the shows I need to go back and rewatch. The premise is essentially that Jake and his family all have the ability to transform into dragons. Also, Jake's high school crush is a member of an ancient society of dragon killers, because why not. Also, they're terrible and literally never succeed in killing a dragon, so they should probably get real jobs. Also there's like an international society of dragons that gets together to have a weird sort of dragon Olympics. And directly from wikipedia: "Other characters include... Grandpa's cynical sidekick who's also Jake's animal guardian and best friend, a magical Shar-Pei named Fu Dog (John DiMaggio)." The show is a fucking trip.
