While I also wasn't familiar with Gunn, I heard his name mentioned fairly often even before the controversy. And, in the interest of full disclosure, I wasn't familiar at all with the PJ CEO as the face of his organization or otherwise. The *only* other time I had heard anything about him was the Obamacare rate hike.

In the case of Papa John, he said the n-word during a board meeting, not just some casual remark on twitter. And had a long history of causing PR headaches for PJ's pizza. I still remember several years ago when he whined that he'd have to jack up the price of a large pizza 14 whole cents if he were to provide healthcare to his employees. That went over well!
He was also the "face" of the company, featured in many of their commercials. In comparison...I had no idea who the fuck James Gunn was until he got fired and it became news, and I watch tons of Marvel movies.

Maybe John didn't deserve to be fired either, but given his repeated history of pissing off PJ's customers with his statements, his firing is one of the most understandable one of these cases and a poor counter-example.

The negative response people have toward his firing really says something about our current political climate.

Guy makes racist joke tweet five years ago. Gets fired. The public's response: "Good. Guy's a piece of shit."

Guy makes multiple weird jokes about having sex with children and babies. The public's response: "They were funny! This guy made GotG! Who cares?! They're just jokes!"

Especially with what's going on now with multiple Hollywood stars being outed for sexual harassment and rape, this firing is really not surprising

Doesn't *anybody* who buys it for religious reasons have to register? If they're not buying for religious reasons, they don't need to register. Plus if you are ultimately going to *only* allow the religious to buy it down the road, you'd have to handle it at the consumer level not the seller level (same shit for medical marijuana -- just having the seller register when you're only allowing people to buy it for medicinal use makes no fucking sense). It sounds like the end-goal here is to reduce the amount of meat produced in this way.

While I lol'd, Hillary wasn't really the problem. Even if Bernie had gotten the nomination (which he never would have; many of the shenanigans complaints were overblown and, in other cases, didn't directly tie to the DNC -- such as Donna Brazile feeding the Hillary camp debate questions then, humorously enough, afterward claiming that the DNC had tried to sway the primary in Hillary's favor), he likely would have lost as well.

Trump's modus operandi since at least 2016 has been to preemptively whine and accuse Democrats of doing something, any time he's actually engaged in the act in question, to muddy any criticism leveled at him when it's discovered.

The action of the FBI towards the election in general, for example. They publicly announced Clinton's case was being reopened a week before the election just because they found emails on Carlos Danger's laptop w/o knowing if any would even be relevant to said case (turns out they weren't, whoops!). Meanwhile they had all these leads into Russian hacking of the DNC servers and meeting w/ Republican officials yet said nothing about it.
But because Trump cried that the election was rigged, it doesn't even matter to his base anymore. If the FBI played favorites w/ Trump, he still points and says, "see it is rigged!" (in his favor...) and gets his base to distrust the FBI as it finally investigates him.

To the trolls (you know who you are): I voted for Gary Johnson, a former 2 term Republican governor, so fuck off. I don't even like Hillary despite the inevitable mewling from you that I do.

Oh, it's an animal welfare thing. That's actually understandable, given that it protects a religious exemption from animal cruelty laws. Further, the WaPo article has this interesting tidbit:

This law proposal dates back to 2017, when it was drafted by the Social Democrat during his last days in office, Alexander Murlasits, an FP spokesman, told The Washington Post on Thursday.

What the FP spokesman is saying here is a blatant lie. Austrian welfare laws specifically mention exceptions for religious use. Slaughtering animals in a kosher way and humanely is not straight forward, hence the government has a list of people who are qualified to do it. This is what the social democrat politician was talking about. Of course the FP in their usual combination of xenophobia and incompetence had to pervert this common sense regulation for their own purposes.

The FP has recently put a lot of PR efforts into distancing themselves from their Nazi roots so I suspect that they were not necessarily trying to target observant Jews but muslims. Luckily, like many far right parties, the FP combines xenophobia with complete incompetence.

Except no, many of the depictions are youthful. Even the white-haired depictions are generally very young, in the same way that anime characters have white or grey hair despite being young.

Other: As a biker who rides a bike on sidewalks/paths, I hate it when I come to a traffic intersection and a car is blocking the walkway. (Has happened to me today during my bike ride a few times and has happened many times in the past... It's just annoying when drivers stop in-front of their line.)

I have genres I like, though also kind of obscure to most people. Like Celtic, J-Pop, Classical, Gothic Chant, etc...

But yeah, a large portion of my music is video game music, which is tough to mention as a "genre".

Generally no one ever asks me what music I like. I wouldn't really care about what they thought either. I like too many genres of music to even bother trying to list them all.
