Maybe John didn't deserve to be fired either, but given his repeated history of pissing off PJ's customers with his statements, his firing is one of the most understandable one of these cases and a poor counter-example.

Campus rules basically circumvented due process completely and had little burden of proof required. You may not go to jail since you were never convicted, but all the social stigma of being a tapist would still follow you for life and cost you your college degree and countless job opportunities and likely alienate friends and family from you.

The negative response people have toward his firing really says something about our current political climate.

Guy makes racist joke tweet five years ago. Gets fired. The public's response: "Good. Guy's a piece of shit."

Guy makes multiple weird jokes about having sex with children and babies. The public's response: "They were funny! This guy made GotG! Who cares?! They're just jokes!"

Especially with what's going on now with multiple Hollywood stars being outed for sexual harassment and rape, this firing is really not surprising

I don't like any of these people getting fired, it's all become a big witch hunt.
The only ones where I agree with it is when it's police, politicians, teachers... or someone else in a position of power or authority over those they're hateful towards and based on the social media messages, it becomes questionable if they can treat the people they have authority over fairly.

These movie directors, fast food workers, and so on getting fired for dumb shit they said on twitter in some cases many years ago is just disturbing and not a good trend.

Christian, Atheist, or any other person who happens to like buying kosher/halal meat, per the proposal, does not have to register. It only applies to those two groups.

Doesn't *anybody* who buys it for religious reasons have to register? If they're not buying for religious reasons, they don't need to register. Plus if you are ultimately going to *only* allow the religious to buy it down the road, you'd have to handle it at the consumer level not the seller level (same shit for medical marijuana -- just having the seller register when you're only allowing people to buy it for medicinal use makes no fucking sense). It sounds like the end-goal here is to reduce the amount of meat produced in this way.

Even if Bernie had gotten the nomination (which he never would have; many of the shenanigans complaints were overblown and, in other cases, didn't directly tie to the DNC -- such as Donna Brazile feeding the Hillary camp debate questions then, humorously enough, afterward claiming that the DNC had tried to sway the primary in Hillary's favor), he likely would have lost as well.

Full and complete disagreement.

Yeah, it's amusing how Zeus and the other "center-leftists" keep just claiming Bernie would've lost, or done even worse than Hillary.

The solid Blue and solid Red states would've gone the same no matter who was on the ticket. Bernie would've performed a lot better w/ white working class voters and the Midwest in general, the area which cost Hillary the election due to narrow losses in several states. Bernie could've flipped Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and possibly a few others compared to Hillary's narrow losses.
He'd do worse than her in Virginia and Florida, but she lost Florida anyway.

Not to mention general voter turnout. Less Democrats came out to vote for her than they came out to vote for Obama in 2012, by millions. No one was excited to vote for Hillary Clinton.
He clearly would've done better than her.

They publicly announced Clinton's case was being reopened a week before the election just because they found emails on Carlos Danger's laptop w/o knowing if any would even be relevant to said case (turns out they weren't, whoops!). Meanwhile they had all these leads into Russian hacking of the DNC servers and meeting w/ Republican officials yet said nothing about it.

They certainly did so this week, after Jewish organizations criticized the far-right Freedom Party of Austria (FP), the ruling coalition party in the state of Lower Austria, over pursuing a proposal that would require Jews to register with the government if they seek to purchase kosher meat. The same rules would apply to Muslims.

That's just bizarre.

https://www.thelocal.at/20180720/austrian-official-proposes-ritual-animal-slaughter-controls

The law provides that having such meat is only for those who show they belong to a religious community and need it, the cabinet minister in the state of Lower Austria told the paper.

Waldhusl has said he wants to reduce the practice of slaughtering animals without first stunning them, citing animal rights.

Oh, it's an animal welfare thing. That's actually understandable, given that it protects a religious exemption from animal cruelty laws. Further, the WaPo article has this interesting tidbit:

This law proposal dates back to 2017, when it was drafted by the Social Democrat during his last days in office, Alexander Murlasits, an FP spokesman, told The Washington Post on Thursday.

First off, the FPO spokesman's lying. Here's a commenter from the article, saves me the trouble:
What the FP spokesman is saying here is a blatant lie. Austrian welfare laws specifically mention exceptions for religious use. Slaughtering animals in a kosher way and humanely is not straight forward, hence the government has a list of people who are qualified to do it. This is what the social democrat politician was talking about. Of course the FP in their usual combination of xenophobia and incompetence had to pervert this common sense regulation for their own purposes.

The FP has recently put a lot of PR efforts into distancing themselves from their Nazi roots so I suspect that they were not necessarily trying to target observant Jews but muslims. Luckily, like many far right parties, the FP combines xenophobia with complete incompetence.

And take note, this isn't some regulation on the kosher/halal butchers, or making them register. This is a proposal to make the customers register with the government to buy the meat. Cause that needs to be tracked by the government for...reasons. And it only applies to Jews and Muslims. Honestly on this site, I'm not even sure if pointing this out will hurt Austria, or give it a surge of votes.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2018/07/19/an-austrian-state-wants-to-force-kosher-meat-consuming-jews-to-register-drawing- nazi-comparisons/

(take out the space...link hit the 150 character limit)

Nazi comparisons have become such frequent occurrences almost anywhere in the world that they rarely draw attention these days. But in Adolf Hitler's birth country, Austria, they usually still strike a nerve whenever they come up.

I have genres I like, though also kind of obscure to most people. Like Celtic, J-Pop, Classical, Gothic Chant, etc...

But yeah, a large portion of my music is video game music, which is tough to mention as a "genre".

Awesome!

Sweet, Celtic buddies! I hardly ever see anyone else mention Celtic music. That's the shit. World/folk music in general, really.

Generally no one ever asks me what music I like. I wouldn't really care about what they thought either. I like too many genres of music to even bother trying to list them all.

But metal/goth metal/satanic metal will probably always be my favorite. :P

Yeah, Celtic is great. Loreena McKennitt is my favorite in that genre.
Also like World/folk music, it just always felt like a weird name..."world music"

10/10. Up there with air conditioning and the internet as one of the greatest inventions of all time imo.

Agreed.

Hell, I made steak, steamed veggies, and couscous last night. None using the microwave. But tonight...I will be eating the leftovers, and I simply can't even imagine a time before the microwave when it comes to re-heating such things. Must have been awful.
Like having to use a washboard prior to the washing machine awful. I put in the work to cook it properly once, that's enough damn it.

so the salmon I had bought, today mind you, was bad.

it tasted like ammonia, so that was fun

so after that purge, I'm frying up some pierogis. cheddar, bacon, sour cream ones.

Ugh...Have to be careful where you buy it from and what you buy.
Like...i get salmon from the seafood section of the grocery store all the time, but one time he wasn't around, so I grabbed the pre-packaged salmon and had an experience like yours. Threw out like $20 of salmon :(

I asked next week and the guy there claimed it's the same salmon, same source for both what's behind the counter and pre-packaged, but no fucking way... Never had a problem w/ the fillets behind the counter.

He's not my leader as I'm not American. Maybe this makes me a bit more objective. I grew up with the Cold War. Anything which prevents another one is fine by me.

So you claim, but you'll never be able to refute the facts. It's laughable you call yourself "objective" in any way.

It's easy to miss with everything else wrong w/ his first diatribe, but he actually thinks this:

He blames the US for the wars that happened in Europe. That's just so laughable, yet also sad.

The idea Russia rigged the election is a conspiracy theory but the conspiracy fact that Israel and AIPAC interfere in every US election and every US president is beholden to Israel is just completely ignored by everyone.

Can you imagine the furore if dual-citizen Russians were entrenched throughout the US establishment? It would never be allowed. But dual-citizen Israelis? A country which has spied on the US, stolen its secrets and bombed the USS Liberty on purpose... that's all fine!

What is so terrible about Trump being conciliatory towards Russia and thus helping the cause of world peace? I know some Americans love war but for those of us living in Europe, who usually have to bear the brunt of these wars one way or the other, we'd quite like peace to break out.

And now we've got an anti-Semite in the topic, lovely

Because pointing out the fact that Israel has a LOT of control over American politics out of all proportion to their size, is 'anti-semitic' of course.

Don't tell me... they're the US's greatest ally and the only democracy in the middle east. Yes I've heard all the slogans too.

You're posting wild conspiracy theories about Israeli intervention and control of our government and election. Just following the leads that the Protocols told you to, right?

And lol, the U.S.'s greatest ally is Canada or the UK, arguably could also be France.
Israel is the most democratic middle eastern country and our closest ally in that region, though (still behind the above, plus several others, like Japan). What middle eastern country do you think is the most democratic?
