Look okay the shameful attacks on John McCain by Trump's thralls. People need to wake up before we have a literal dictator. It is long past time to stop underestimating what Trump is capable of.

Decades of alliances and international cooperation are at risk, even beyond the war to delegitimize opposition votes.

Confused by this post. Paul Ryan already is a Yes Man speaker for Trump. Sabotaging healthcare has been a goal of his all along. And he's always been open about how much he idolizes Ayn Rand and her philosophy of "fuck every else."
You seem to think something about him is different than was ever presented, or that he's somehow not everything you already fear about the next speaker.

At one point, Boehner became the leader because the last guy was a "RINO"
Then Boehner became a "RINO" and was replaced by Ryan, who is now also a "RINO" and will soon be replaced.
And none of them significantly changed their positions from the start of their tenures. If anything, they tended to shift to the right slightly.

They need to be confronted by as many people as possible, called out as the horrible people they are, and subjected to wide scale ridicule.
That's the only thing that gets them to scurry back under their rocks. The trolls will still exist, but there will be less of them and they'll periodically go quiet under the barrage of contempt, which offers some moments of reprieve.

Papa John's has always been awful.

Dominos > Pizza Hut > PJ > Little Ceasar's
(based on the old LC; their new pizza might be better than PJ's, but marketing it as "fast" and "cheap" doesn't make me want to give them another shot...)

Also, John's been a scumbag for a long time. He complained about 5 years ago that the Affordable Care Act would force him to give employees healthcare and raise the price of a large pizza by a whopping 14 cents.
All while he lives in a mansion and was giving way tons of pizzas for free as a promotion w/ the NFL. But no, can't afford healthcare!
Also ignoring that all his other chain pizza rivals would face the same added cost burden, so the price increase wouldn't even make him less competitive in the first place.

My favorite 3D Zelda game. The enemies should probably do more damage (other than the first dungeon, that was about right for difficulty) and the end portion was disappointing, but the rest is just perfect. Even the much-hated ocean traveling isn't that bad since you get warps that put you within two map tiles of anywhere.

Baten Kaitos Origins
Huge improvement in the combat system from the first BK game and a better story overall (but the biggest plot twist fell short of the incredible...quite possibly best plot twist I've ever experienced of the first game). Love the interaction between the three characters, music is excellent, graphics and art style are beautiful....just a great RPG.

Smash Melee
Played a ton of it w/ my friends, still the best gameplay of all the Smash Bros. games to this day. It was only fun w/ items off and the game encourages "cheap" knockouts a bit too much, but overall gave tons of hours of enjoyment.

Ah, the Puritan argument! "If you're not doing anything wrong, you should have nothing to hide."

Any interaction w/ a police officer that's pulled you over is going to be stressful. It's unlikely for the interaction to go sour and I definitely would be polite to the officer, but there's always a chance one could be the next Philando Castile, or at least getting roughed up. Kind of a crap shoot if you're unlucky enough to be pulled over by a bad cop vs. a good cop.

PuddingBoy posted...
When I'm speaking about this, I assume the majority of the people around you are all being safe drivers by following the speed limit or not disrupting the flow of traffic. I've never seen a single car in a pack of vehicles going 80 in a 65 zone get pulled over for speeding since that speed is what those in traffic have dictated to be okay. But if you're the one person blowing past everyone when they're all doing close to the normal limit, then you can get fucked for being a poor driver.

I said in my very first post I drive the speed of the rest of the traffic and it's usually like 15 mph or so over the speed limit on a highway.

Someone going way faster than the speed limit should get ticketed. I've argued the whole time the limits are too low, not for going fucking 100 mph in a 65 mph zone...

Not the impression I was getting.

Is anyone saying that it's morally wrong to travel no faster than the posted speed limit? Morality can only be called legalistic if you don't consider the act's morality beyond the laws that govern it. To return to the Nazi Germany example, you can say that following the law would be immoral because following the law results in the death of many (morally) innocent people. Ergo, deferring to "it's the law therefore it's right" is actually morally wrong.

Is heeding the speed limit immoral? Well, let's look at the pros and cons:

Pros:
-Reduced risk of serious accidents (provided everyone heeds it)
-Reduced severity of accidents

Cons:
-Reach destination 5-10% later (presuming the alternative is a non-egregious amount of speeding)
-Increased risk of serious accidents if you're the only one heeding it

One of those cons ceases to exist if everyone heeds the speed limit (any law should consider the hypothetical ideal of perfect compliance in determining how important enforcement is), and the other is pretty negligible for the vast majority of trips (3-6 minutes per hour of travel at the speed in question). Ergo, you can't really say that following the speed limit is immoral. That's not saying "it's the law it's therefore moral," it's assessing the behaviour that the law promotes and finding it to be generally beneficial, and therefore accepting the law.

Again, your entire premise is built on the notion that the present speed limits are reasonable.
Yes, if everyone drove slower it would be safer. Not just the speed limit, even lower. Any reduction in speed will make collisions have less momentum being stopped.
But it's going too far to slow everyone down to 10 mph or whatever. It's going to naturally hit some sort of balance point between what's safest and what's fastest, where the speed is still overall safe and the speed is still reasonable.
That's the speed people naturally drive, and it's consistently above the listed speed limits.
Governments know this, but won't raise the limits, because keeping them artificially low means they have a dependable source of extra income whenever they need it.
That is what I'm saying is immoral.

No, it's not as bad as literal nazi germany. I'm not the one who Godwin'd this, that was you. Just because it's less bad than the abduction, property theft, enslavement, torture, and murder of millions of people doesn't mean there's no value in addressing it.

Questionable activities is inherently down to police discretion and what innocent actions you might be taking could look like to the police officer viewing from his car.

He then goes on to say that the idea of a speeding ticket isn't' enough to cause change in their driving habits but then cites that looking out for cops while speeding is stressful. Yeah, no shit? You're literally changing your habits right there because you're afraid of getting caught. Imagine what it must be like to drive reasonable speeds and not be afraid of getting pulled over lol. Questionable Activities

If you are driving around, there could be many things going on in your car which to an outsider may look much different. Smoking a cigarette may look like a joint of marijuana, drinking a bottled soda may look like a beer. Asking your kid to get something out of the backseat may look like your allowing your child to romp all over the vehicle without wearing a seatbelt. Point being, there are a number of things to be self-aware of, and though you will certainly feel its not fair you were pulled over, from the police officers perspective, it was a vastly different story.

This two part video series is pretty good, the primary subject is about talking to police and the importance of the 5th Amendment, but among the issues the lawyer mentions is the insane amount of crimes on the books that people unknowingly might be violating any given day.

Watch 5:18 - 7:15 (or the whole video, it's good overall):

Also relevant, in the 2nd part of the video series, an experienced police officer gives his view:

As he says himself at 1:52 in the video,
And if you drive 55 on the interstate where it's 55, the only thing you're gonna do is meet the person behind you, because they're gonna rear end you and you're gonna get run over, ok?

Which is a bit of hyperbole, but still...the point stands, and that's coming from a cop.

Even when I'm going the speed limit I'm watching out for cops, and if one's behind me I try to find somewhere to turn off the road for a bit to get the cop off my ass as soon as I can. how disturbing the deferential attitude of "being legal = being morally right" is,

Basing morality on the laws is indeed extremely flawed logic (classic example: Those hiding jews in WWII Germany were breaking the law, those massacring them were following it), but that's not really what's being done here. I don't think anyone would claim that traveling at the posted speed limit is inherently immoral (presuming that everyone does it so you don't end up with somebody at a deviant speed).

Not the impression I was getting. Trying to argue the speed limits are intentionally kept low as an easy way to score fines when desired, and the responses seemed to be an awful lot of, "it's the law," as if that makes it right.
No shit it's the law, I know that. The law is wrong.

For example:
adjl posted...
Teeth posted...
they're so high in an attempt to dissuade anyone from fucking doing illegal shit again

Also that. If these violations still occur on a regular basis, then the fines are failing to discourage them and could probably actually stand to be higher (though again, scaled to be proportional to income so you don't get the disproportionate impact). Don't like how high fines are getting? Then stop being part of the problem, and encourage everyone you know to do the same.

That said, more consistent enforcement would help a lot more with that than higher fines would. The biggest reason people get so uppity about tickets is that they're typically being ticketed for something they do all the time without getting caught (especially in the case of speeding), and that they know thousands of other people are doing without getting caught. Hitting most violators with a moderate fine would yield better compliance than hitting a tiny minority of violators with an extreme one.

The problem with that is that better enforcement means spending more money on cops (and the ensuing "wah police state waaah" from entitled speeders), likely without a commensurate increase in ticket revenue. That means jacking up fines, though less effective, is the more cost-effective option.

You and Teeth are arguing from the perspective that the fines are just, and when presented with the obvious fact that they aren't because 99.9% of people do the same "crime" and are not punished for it, instead of saying, "maybe this shouldn't be a crime" your solution is to designate way more people as law-breakers.

In any case, my original complaint was only partly about how grossly unjust speed traps are, and at least as much about the massive amount of the fine being excessive. Yeah, "it's the law." Because the people who made the law like being able to skim money off innocent people as the budget requires.

And no, it's not about pride. I've never gotten a speeding ticket my whole life, but that's due to a combination of luck and avoiding driving as much as possible...because it's inevitably going to happen the more miles you drive.
Getting a speeding ticket isn't remotely common enough to make it logical to permanently change one's driving habits (and piss off everyone else on the road who's still driving at a normal speed), and it never will be.
But the anxiety definitely has an effect. I'm always checking for cops in likely hiding spots, it's stressful, and the distraction of a cop camped out is way more likely to get me into an accident than my driving speed.

His various actions sound like sexual assault and/or sexual harassment (and the jokes and making out with drunk chicks probably nothing criminal), not tape. Still several things he could and should go to court for if they can be proven, just not quite the level of tape.

Don't see the point in him resigning now, the company's going to die from this negative publicity anyway.

And the hypocrisy is pretty fitting for the movement. Reminds me of all the right-wing christian politicians who'd cry about morals and inevitably get caught having extramarital affairs, soliciting gay sex, molesting kids, and so on.
Except now the cause is workplace harassment and it's the left wing crusaders repeatedly turning out to be guilty of the stuff they rail loudly against.

Uh...yeah.

Unlike driving the same speed as the rest of the traffic, drinking and driving actually is dangerous, and entirely unnecessary.

21 over is practically nothing.

Seriously. Especially on a high way. Everyone is going at least 10-15 mi over, usually I'm going 15-20 over the speed limit and getting passed by tons of people going much faster.

if everyone jumped off a bridge that means you would too, right?

it doesn't matter what you think of the laws, breaking them is still illegal.

People drive over the speed limit every single day.
Let me know how the daily bridge dive works out for you.

I've already established my clean driving record. But hey... keep sticking up for police state revenue gathering if that's your thing. Cops are capable of being wrong/lying. They're people too. As a matter of fact, they're often fucking dumb as rocks

You mean like when they shoot unarmed (usually black) people and claim they felt in fear for their life?

The way normal political positions in regards to cops are turned on their head for most posters in this topic is just fascinating to me

Eww...I agree with OhhhJa on something. Feels icky...

Those fine amounts are obscene and the people cheering for them here apparently don't mind when those same fine amounts are levied on the poor who can't afford them and it places them in a spiral of debt.

Yikes, that's dumb, shouldnt it be the cops responsibilty to get pulled over drivers somewhere safe and not use it as an excuse to issue more citations?

Cops literally use the laws as a money making scam, having one car pulled over and another laying in wait just to go after people who don't "sufficiently" slow down.

adjl posted...
In which case you can just miss your exit. You could also pull over to the side of the road yourself to wait for the cop to finish so you can safely take the exit. Both solutions are inconvenient, sure, but their safety is more important than your convenience.

Yeah, that's fucking ridiculous. "Just come to a stop behind the parked cars and wait till the cop's done."
Maybe the cop can look before stepping out of the car, and as long as the cars are going slower, should be able to gauge when it's safe to exit.

Remember that she's going to have dashcam footage that was credible enough to issue the ticket in the first place. You, on the other hand, have admitted that it was dark, and coupled with the flashing lights of the car I would be far more inclined to believe that you misjudged the distance than that she lied on the ticket.

Having dash cam footage, even from the cop can only help him or at worst make no difference. You think the cop wrote those violations on his/her ticket then is going to show up to court and press for harsher violations based on the footage? Most likely, if the footage doesn't match what was written down, it will have been "lost" or the dash cam "wasn't working that night."

WTF happened in the 3 minutes between her saying "Your right, have a great day" (it's you're, btw) and then her next post, w/ none from you in between, where she just flips her shit?

I hate facebook, twitter, etc... so much. It's shocking and frightening that people use them as news sources.

Stockholm Syndrome. Abused women have also repeatedly gone back to their abuser who, in many cases, later kills them. But hey, by your same logic, putting somebody in a hospital couldn't really be *that* bad if they want to go back, right?

ParanoidObsessive posted...
Basically, even if you assume Chris Hardwick is somewhat of a nobody to mainstream audiences, she's still way more of a nobody than he is, so I'd say "She is a nobody that's mad he is successful and left her cheating ass behind" is a perfect valid argument, because he's easily more successful than her, and he DID leave her after she cheated on him (which also ties into the other earlier comment that she's "the bitter ex that literally begged to come back to him after he dumped her", since we've seen actual proof of that via phone messages).

Either way you're arguing, "Who's the bigger e-list celebrity aspiring to someday be a d-list celebrity?"

As for wanting to get back together, keep in mind Rihanna went back to Chris Brown. The idea that an abused partner wants to be with their abuser doesn't magically dismiss alleged abuse. And keep in mind that Rihanna was also the lesser name when that abuse was exposed.

Im not an expert but Stockholm Syndrome doesnt apply six months after.

You sound like more of an expert than Zeus at least.

I use plastic bags in trash cans, for bagging up smelly stuff like cat litter, etc. I'm glad they're not banned.

Right, we use them for trash bin liners, too. Forgot about that.

No, thankfully. I have a bunch of reusable bags, but I always get a few plastic bags when grocery shopping, too.

We use them for cat litter. If plastic shopping bags were banned, we'd still be using plastic bags. Only difference is now we'd be paying for them.

I really liked how Lycanthropes were portrayed in Special Unit 2.
Lycanthropy allows those who contract it to gain numerous superhuman strength, speed, and senses; never needing to sleep; and giving a more cut-throat, primal outlook towards the competition.
Many of the top lawyers and businessmen in the city gladly became lycanthropes and use it to climb the ladder of success.
Only drawback is every month during the full moon you turn into a full on wolf-human hybrid and must hunt for food (people), which doesn't seem to bother any of them (shocking, I know).
EDIT: Clip from the episode w/ one of the cops having gotten bitten in order to try and infiltrate the pack:

My favorite lycanthrope character was my own D&D character, though. Michel "Mike" Zev Lupin. A lawful evil lycanthropic CEO, who was basically a mix of the above with the personality of Hank Scorpio from the Simpsons. He was genuinely really nice and supportive to his own underlings but actually a super villain out to take over the world. He'd recruit anyone with exceptional talent that he felt could be trusted no matter who or what they were, even in the middle of fighting against them sometimes, but anyone else who'd cross him, he'd swiftly eradicate.
My favorite part was trying to create as many Broken Aesops as possible, by taking normally positive characteristics like teamwork, rewarding of merit rather than status, and diversity / acceptance of others and twisting them to evil ends.

TL;DR: Werewolf Hank Scorpio
