makes sense to me, insurance will cover the car and if insurance felt like their profits were threatened they'd hire their own hatchet men to fix crime.
No they wouldn't, they'll just raise premiums on everyone. Like they have been doing the past 2 years at massive rates.
When the law straight up requires your business to be purchased in order to drive a car legally, you can charge whatever you like!

The police were ridiculous here, they should be focused on locking these violent thieves up, instead they want residents to roll out the red carpet for them to avoid violent encounters.
I saw someone claim the same department also advertised their response time (22 min) publicly to "deter crime" and it basically just gave the criminals a precise timetable for burglaries instead.

Oh, look! Someone who doesn't know what THEY'RE talking about and is super proud about it!
The requirements for permanent alimony vary by state in the ones that have it, with some merely requiring being married a certain length, like 10 years.
In the tiny amount cases where someone is fully disabled and unable to work, it should be the state's burden to take care of that person, not the EX-spouse for the rest of that person's life, that's fucking crazy.
But go on embarrassing yourself.

Just sucks they held off just long enough to force Eiyuden Chronicle onto Switch instead of the new console.

I would be willing to stretch for a proper full size car with electric. But no one makes full size cars anymore. Just SUVs. Even compacts are going away. Every time i get in one of those SUVs, i can't believe how tight and poorly laid out they feel. With terrible trunk space and very few seats, and usually terrible safety and terrible anti roll. I don't get why everyone fell for these scams.

Another gripe of mine. Why are they all SUVs, trucks, and hatchbacks? Where's the sedan models?

faramir77 posted...
The technology needs to get cheaper, and soon. Buying a vehicle in 10 years when EVs are required for new vehicles in North America is going to be very tough for the average person. The increased demand this will put on "cheaper" gas vehicles will likely increase the value of used gas cars, too, unfortunately.

Prices aren't going down by sheer manufacturer malicious intent at this point. "Material/battery costs!" has been a bs excuse for a long time. Battery costs have dropped sharply.
So long as they can make huge windfalls selling "luxury" models to those willing to buy them, they don't seem to particularly be interested in switching to low margin, high volume sales of EVs.

From the May 2005 Playboy
"The only way to drive is at top speed, with a car full of whiskey. It takes commitment, especially with so many deer and elk around. Car lights paralyze deer. You've got to lean on the horn, brace on the wheel and stomp on the accelerator. When you hit the brakes the front of the car dips down-that will put the beast into your windshield. Now, the significant impact will still occur if you step on the gas, but you're not helpless. It's still destroy your grille and lights, but-unless it's a bull elk-it will kick the animal out of the way. Hitting the beast head-on will move it instead of popping it up onto the windshield.
It's the swerving that gets people killed.

An amusing take on the matter that I still remember...

Except now they can re-populate the old map areas and maybe add some dungeons or shuffle things around, and you end up w/ way more area to explore.

Yes.
Raw, cooked, and canned (if you're cooking them anyway, raw ones will end up like canned ones anyway).
I like adding them to any stir fry or pasta I make, plus a lot of other dishes.
When I make steak, the sauteed mushrooms are always the best part of the dish.
Raw mushrooms are great on salad, and sometimes I'll just pour some Greek vinaigrette in one (pull the stem out and eat it) and call it "mushroom bowls" as a snack.

Anyway, I came here to complain about "fake-flation" (ie, corporate greed). While it's been bad across the board, in the case of mushrooms, both raw and canned, the prices have literally DOUBLED since 2019!
Aldi: 4 oz. (dry) $0.55 to $1.19
Walmart: 8 oz. $1.20 to $2.49
Local grocer: 8 oz. $1.50 to $3

With the fresh mushroom prices similarly ballooning. Used to go on sale for $1 or so for 8 oz., now the lowest it goes is like $2.
It's horrible. The only thing I can think of that went up in price even worse was fig bar cookies.

I'd agree.
It always seemed like a stupid and pointless distinction to me. But that's because I took it literally: RPG made in Japan.
But then people try to say Dark Souls isn't a JRPG b/c it doesn't fit in some dumb little box (that many other JRPGs don't either, like being turn-based). Or Pokemon isn't a JRPG (because it's widely popular), and you realize it's basically used as a racist denigration to dismiss an entire swath of games. It's basically, "this narrow pigeonholed set of things in a game that I don't like, so I'm going to call it Japanese".
So yeah, fuck the "JRPG" and "WRPG" dichotomy. It was always made in bad faith by bad people.

If I get a security system, it'd be to protect myself from both criminals and cops. Way too many wrong address no-knock raids in this country, not to mention "SWATing" incidents, like that poor victim in Kansas.
And if you have physical hard drives, it's a lot easier for them to get rid of the evidence after the fact, while as uploaded to the internet, they can't.

That's been a major component of it. Being more expensive to transport stuff has downstream effects on the price of everything. That, in turn, was entirely a matter of oil companies deciding to jack up their prices using the war in Ukraine and sanctions against Russia as an excuse (which had some effect on oil prices, but nothing that remotely justifies the full price increase).

Beyond that, though, so many companies are reporting record profits, then turning around and saying that they "need to increase prices because of inflation." People expect price increases, so companies can get away with increasing prices, so companies increase their prices while pretending there's nothing they can do.

In a competitive market, someone would lower their prices a bit b/c they could do so and still make plenty of profit, drawing more sales. Which in turn would start a chain reaction of companies lowering prices to stay competitive.
But thanks to 40 years of mergers and acquisitions that have almost always been allowed, we now have giant corporate conglomerates and oligopolies that control each sector and freely collude with each other.
We need some damn trust busting, but Biden won't do it and Republicans are the ones that engineered this mess.

Because death changes the dynamics. If you died you presumably have no chance of returning to your original life and for better or worse you're stuck with your new life. Something like teleportation otoh leaves a possibility that you could be able to return to your old life.

I always was annoyed how in most of the "old" isekai where it was teleportation, they'd just go back at the end.
But I also dislike how in the "you died" version, they generally stay because...they have to.

My favorite situation is one where they end up in the strange world, initially want to go back home (obviously), but over time learn to love their new world as their home and decide to stay there, of their own volition.

Not every isekai involves dying to get there.
That's a far more modern (like 2010 or so onwards) thing. And even then, not always, like Rising of the Shield Hero.

A lot of the earlier isekai stories just involved going through a portal or something, and since the main character never died, getting back home is still hoped for or expected.
