Goku has always had a goofy side but I feel like they flandarized that trait in Super.

Well actually maybe its less to do with Goku. Super as a whole feels way less gritty than DBZ did. Feels like they definitely made Super to get the attention of a new generation as opposed for the fans from the 90s/00s.
