If it's that he's randomly strong, oh noooo a character in dragon ball got a random power boost this has never happened befooooorrrrrreeee

To be fair, at least with the main characters being who they are, they can wave it off as new transformations. But with 17, it's just "He's suddenly able to go toe to toe with a god of destruction and damage someone stronger than a god of destruction, because plot and we need to add drama to the upcoming sacrifice, despite the last time we saw him he was no match for imperfect cell"

To be fair, I'd agree if we saw 17 every arc and he was losing to weak people. But in Dragon Ball, if somebody is gone for awhile, it's safe to just assume they're going to come back stronger. I mean, we don't know what he was doing all that time other than fighting poachers. Could have been training, whatever. We also don't really know how all the androids can gain power, either.

While non-canon (I believe?), we've already seen from GT that they've intended for 17 to be able to do things that you wouldn't have expected, such as fusing with himself, absorbing power, etc., which means the androids aren't just cut and dry "human with technology."

We already know they have infinite(near infinite?) stamina, which you'd assume would certainly help with training.

Not at all.

If I punch you to stop you from kicking a child, I'm not torturing you no matter how much pain it caused you.

If they spray you to stop you from destroying something or attacking somebody, they aren't torturing you.

If you've already stopped and they keep doing it, or you weren't doing anything to begin with? Then yes, it's torture.

It shouldn't need to be clarified unless you're automatically assuming the worst.

"Rape" is not a normal thing that happens when police are arresting somebody.

i mean, in the opening post we have someone describing getting pepper sprayed as "the spiciest rack of hot wings getting all kinds of thrown in your face while satan stabs you in the eyes with a flaming pitchfork." are we really going to have a serious debate on whether or not it actually qualifies as torture?

The pain could be considered "torture," but the act of pepper spraying somebody is not automatically an act of torturing somebody.

I mean, people often say things like "Man, that test was torture," or "Work was torture today," but that does not literally mean they were being tortured.

The act of torturing somebody has taken on a different meaning than the basic definition.

I'll answer that if you answer whether torture and/or rape fit under the "anything that happens to you" that people deserve for not obeying the police.

No, and I'll freely admit that "anything that happens to you" is too broad. I mean in the course of what would be expected of what SHOULD be normal police procedure. If you fight a cop after committing a crime, then yes, you deserve to be pepper sprayed or tazed. If you try to kill a cop, yes, you deserve to be shot. And so on.

Rape is not something that a normal person would consider as something that would be common to happen while being apprehended by police. Can it happen? Absolutely. But your teacher can rape you, as well. So can a family member, and so on. So just because people who have happened to be police have raped people before, that does not make it fair to lump that in with police procedure.

Likewise, I do not consider pepper spray to be torture if it is being used to stop you from doing something illegal after you have refused to stop. Could it be torture? Sure, if you're doing nothing wrong and they're just blasting you for no reason. But if it's used as a deterrent because you are refusing to stop, then no, it's not torture.

So we're comparing rape to dealing with police now

We're equating "If you did something wrong and are dealing with the police, you should listen to them/not resist" to "Don't resist when you're being raped."

Yeah... Like, unless Pence stood for every anthem accept this one, it's very much a "whatever."

^

As far as I know, Pence didn't stand for any other anthem, so it wasn't like he was taking a stance here.

Actually, he might have been

In Friday's ceremony, Pence was seen sitting near none other than Kim Yo Jong, the younger sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

But the vice president, per reports from CBS News and the Associated Press, neither interacted with Jong nor stood to recognize the joint North and South Korea team that entered for the ceremony.

Other reports corroborated the suggestion that Pence and his wife, Karen, were the only people in the VIP press box not to stand in recognition of the Korean Olympic delegation, which marched united for the first time since 2007. And Voice of America later reported that Pence willingly opted to sit in the box, so as to be seen by North Korean officials, rather than simply sit with a delegation of only Team USA representatives.

According to BBC, the vice president, who at one point said he might consider meeting with North Korean officials during his time in South Korea, also skipped an Olympic dinner, where he was "due to share a table with North Korea's ceremonial head of state Kim Yong-nam."

"Mr. Pence and Kim Yong-nam were being hosted by (South Korea) President Moon (Jae-in) before the opening ceremony in Pyeongchang.

But the U.S. vice-president left the reception venue after five minutes, South Korea's Yonhap said.

While Mr. Moon and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe both shook hands with Mr. Kim, Mr. Pence did not, South Korean officials said."
