they can afford to take that 'risk'

because as stated, there is a literal zero percent chance of a follow through

If someone put a gun to your head that you "knew" wouldn't pull the trigger, and they commanded you to do something, how much do you have to be absoltely sure for "literal zero percent"?

Because that is what us attacking Europe would be.

Like, do you honestly believe that if a country possessing nuclear armaments started throwing their weight around and threatening to USE those armaments, that the rest of the world would just willingly accept the risk of a lunatic state holding the rest of the world hostage? They either nuke America, or assassinate whoever they need to assassinate to get us to back down. We're not as untouchable as you think if we rally the entire globe against us.

If those events occurred he would be assassinated or we would be nuked first. It would be the death if America either physically or spiritually.

Well. Yeah. It's a hypothetical because obviously someone running on taking over the world would never ever win. He would get assasinated well before he evwr got in office.

But now he did win, he is in office, and he is in a bunker where he can't be assainated by outside countries right now.

What options do UK and Germany have?

#BREAKING: Israeli police chiefs have decided to recommend indicting PM Benjamin Netanyahu for corruption, Israeli media report https://t.co/U1g0T3359W

This case has been building for quite a while. I don't really talk with any of my Israeli friends from a few years ago any more, but back then they were very pro-Netanyahu. Granted, that might have also been because they lived in Karmiel (northern city), and I'm not sure what role regional politics plays over there.

So apparently this budget deal would push the deficit up to like 7% of GDP or something (from like 3%), which from what I can tell even some economists who normally don't think the debt is that big of a deal are saying is a bad idea (since we're already near full employment, which is when you least need stimulus)

Guessing it will pass though

VOX - Puerto Ricos blackout, the largest in American history, explained

Some 1.36 million Americans are without power right now, and it isnt coming back any time soon. This is a national embarrassment.

Were talking about Puerto Rico. It is still in the throes of the longest and largest blackoutin US history following Hurricane Maria, the Category 4 storm with 150 mph winds and 36 inches of rainfall that toppled 80 percent of the islands power lines and flooded its generators last September.

As of February 7, about 30 percent of utility customers couldnt turn on the lights, refrigerate food, or run water pumps. That translates to 40 percent of the islands population, because customer refers to a power meter, and each meter can represent multiple people living in the same house.

I kinda roll my eyes at this point when it's stuff like making fun of Trump's dumb hair or whatever, it's kind of passe, the only thing that's good about it is that it probably personally hurts Trump's ego and I'm all for undermining him by pissing him off with juvenile shit but still

This conversation's got me thinking again about what happens to America in the times we're attacked during the Trump Administration.

I'm counting natural disasters as attacks for this conversation, so let's get hurricanes out of the way. Is there any question Sandy was handled better than Katrina or Maria? I'd like to see some newer comparisons between Katrina and Maria, but it feels like Donald found a way to be less concerned about it than Mr. "George Bush doesn't care about black people" (by the way, all the more odd now knowing Kanye supported Donald.....).

In terms of foreign terrorism, Dubya shot straight to 90% approval ratings after the worst attack in our nation's history. He messed that up over the years, but does anybody think Donald would receive uniform faith and support if a new 9/11 came to hit America? I think we'd hit new record-levels of partisanship.

Domestically, Charlottesville was completely disheartening to see Donald's reactions for...and more rallies have been held since then, and funding for anti-white supremicist groups have been stripped away.

As far as other attacks go, like Jakyl brought up, when is America actually going to do something about Russia's cyber-attacks infiltrating our voting systems? We can get into obstruction of justice too, but I fear that leads to the same issue.

Just...it's upsetting. I don't see where America would come together in our most vulnerable moments under Donald. Where do people learn to trust him in caae of attacks?

Besides Fox.

A good way to put it is this:

I wasnt fond of Bush. I disagreed, sometimes very strongly, with his views.

But on a basic level I knew I could trust him to make the best decisions he was capable of making and that he had my best interests at heart even if I disagreed strongly with his priorities.

Thats just simply not there with Trump. At all. Everyone knows hes mostly just looking out for no. 1.

EDIT: And this is why most presidents divest themselves of their investments and conflicts of interest by the way. It's so when push comes to shove people can believe hes not thinking about how things might effect his baseball team or the university he was on the board of trustees for and instead be focused on whats best for the country. Trump didnt do that and thats something that strongly prevents me from trusting him

Realistically? I think right now people don't. People following politics closely are looking towards the house and the senate as largely running the country right now.

And this isn't even really a statement about how much influence Donald has (he has plenty). It's more just noting that he changes his mind a lot, or just doesn't follow through. If you listen to a speech from Donald, he might change his position in a week. Or he'll say he will appoint a council to deal with, say, the opioid crisis and...kind of just forget about it and not follow through. If you listen to or read a statement from Paul Ryan, you can be relatively sure that congress is going to try to do the thing that he says it's going to try to do.

"We wish him well," the president said. "He worked very hard. I found out about it recently and I was surprised by it. But we certainly wish him well. It's obviously a tough time for him. He did a very good job when he was in the White House. And we hope he has a wonderful career, and hopefully he will have a great career ahead of him. But it was very sad when we heard about it, and certainly he's also very sad. Now he also as you probably know, he says he's innocent. And I think you have to remember that. He said very strongly yesterday that he's innocent. So you'll have to talk to him about that. But we absolutely wish him well. Did a very good job while he was at the White House."
