Not only did 17 stand up to Jiren, he's the only one so far to wound him! This was the ultimate love episode for 17 fans, and it delivered. RIP 17 and his cruiser.

I'm kinda feeling this way about this last segment of the ToP in general, not just with frieza. Like the amount of times that Jiren has punched someone hard enough to send them to the end of the freakin void, much less what's left of the arena, and they happen to just hit a piece of debris that's thick enough to stop them, is kinda getting ludicrous. Especially Frieza who gets bounced TWICE in one flight!

To be fair, at least with the main characters being who they are, they can wave it off as new transformations. But with 17, it's just "He's suddenly able to go toe to toe with a god of destruction and damage someone stronger than a god of destruction, because plot and we need to add drama to the upcoming sacrifice, despite the last time we saw him he was no match for imperfect cell"

It depends on if you think the power of TECHNOLOGY should beat a god of destruction, since that's essentially what 17 and 18 are. I don't think it should be able to. At least frieza's 'four' months of training would have been bringing out his natural power, but 17 is basically just a human with technology. I wouldn't think he'd have that potential.

To be fair, I'd agree if we saw 17 every arc and he was losing to weak people. But in Dragon Ball, if somebody is gone for awhile, it's safe to just assume they're going to come back stronger. I mean, we don't know what he was doing all that time other than fighting poachers. Could have been training, whatever. We also don't really know how all the androids can gain power, either.

While non-canon (I believe?), we've already seen from GT that they've intended for 17 to be able to do things that you wouldn't have expected, such as fusing with himself, absorbing power, etc., which means the androids aren't just cut and dry "human with technology."

We already know they have infinite(near infinite?) stamina, which you'd assume would certainly help with training.

-established last ep that Vegeta used up all his power on his big final attack on Toppo

I didn't realize Goku had Sherlock Holmes level detective skills. That is just such an amazing plan to hit someone with a strong attack when they aren't blocking it.

I thought Jiren's backstory was kinda cool. He basically went on his own Goku-style adventures but at the end of the day there were no Dragonballs to bring back his Krillin, his Roshi, his Yamcha, etc.

This, actually never happened in Dragonball before Super. Have we watched the same show? Forgotten characters actually didn't get power boosts out of nowhere. Every power increase was justified with a training arc and/or powerup/transformation. Even when training wasn't shown in real time, it was shown in a flashback or at least discussed by the character. Powerups/transformations were always justified. Sometimes it was BS anime "logic" BUT there was always an attempt to show that a powerup had some in universe explanation to it. Some of the power boosts in Super actually continue to follow this (Frieza actually being an example of one of the good ones) but most do not.

It's time we were frank about what Super actually is. It's Dragonball GT 2.0. Only this time Toei just went and paid off Toriyama to do whatever the hell they wanted, and Toriyama just shut up, took the money, and blessed it as canon.

What is UNACCEPTABLE level of BAD writing is this shoe horned Jiren backstory that they did in two minutes.

That is probably the worst writing I have ever seen in a show.

Literally all they had to do was have Jiren say "I have to protect my Universe. You think you are the only ones protecting people you love?"

And it's fucking gravy.

This BS "Want 2 be strong" backstory just completely ruins him for me. Ughhhh it was so bad. It's like someone's fanfiction OC won a contest.

It would've been better if they had slowly been giving Jiren backstory throughout the tournament, I may have accepted it more then, but last night was just pathetic.

The only thing saving that episode was Android 17, who has to be the MVP of the entire tournament.
