I've never killed any pigeons lol but then again I've only been playing for a month

I would assume many of these statistics are skewed due to the sheer number of inactive accounts of people who tried and dropped a free game or people who play much more casually. For perspective, I got the one for top 10% of hillichurls and slimes killed. I had 35 days of playtime on record and am only AR 42 so that means most accounts must not be terribly deep into the game.

Is it just me or is the drop rate for Spectral Husks complete trash compared to everything else? Part of it is that I suck at killing them because I don't have good ranged units leveled yet but still! I've almost got The Catch to A5 but it's already been bad so far and Aloy is going to need SO MUCH of this crap.

Handguards for Raiden Shogun seem low too but at least the samurai dudes are everywhere and only half as obnoxious to fight

Make sure you're working on the pufferfish. Those take much longer.

I farmed enough in advance to get one refinement which is good enough for now. I'm fine with taking that step at a slower pace, I just had NO other good spear for her which was a special kind of infuriating.

I actually ended up joining random multiplayer sessions until I found someone who let me fish, so I'm good to go now. Cursed shit, but it is funny.

Filled out that survey too!

I finally saved up 34 Starglitter. Are Ningguang or Xingqiu worth buying or should I hold on to them for a constellation or someone else? I'm looking through the Starglitter rotation of characters and besides the F2P units I don't have any of them besides Razor. I'm leaning towards Xingqiu because Barbara is still my only Hydro.

Okay after a week I have finally done the Stormchaser questline so I can actually rank up and use Raiden Shogun, lol. Unfortunately I did not have time to grind fish during the event so I still have to suffer through normal fishing for The Catch. Hit AR40 too (ended up not pausing at 35 after all, needed drops) so it is time to burn through some Fragile Resins to get her up to speed and rebuild my team. Currently I'm thinking Raiden/Xiangling/Qiqi/Sucrose. I could also use Yanfei or Sara as the ranged for resonance, but Sucrose is C3 now and yall say she's good so I think that's the best investment.

I love the stormy ruined island you go to for Stormchaser, btw. It's such a cool and spooky aesthetic. I made sure to take my time while doing the quest and got about 50% of the island explored. I've only really set foot on two of the Inazuma islands so far (I went over to a third for fishing so more like 2.5), but so far I'm digging it. Liyue's map impressed me a lot with its beautiful mountains and valleys, but Inazuma is so dense with hidden caves littered everywhere. As someone said, lots of Z-axis. Honestly hard for me to believe that these are in the same game as Mondstadt which is so plain and low-effort by comparison. I feel like the first region is a huge factor in why the game has a reputation as an inferior BotW clone when it becomes much different the further invested you get into it.

Also unfortunately, had no time to do the Inazuma story beyond getting to the city. I am interested in it; Liyue's story was decently interesting apart from fetch questing and I do want to know the lore on this character I'm grinding. There's just been so much STUFF to do though.

Kokomis first day in China.

Is this number of pulls on the first day? Oof.

Is Childe bad or something? He also seems extremely unpopular which is a shame because I love that douche. And he seemed really fun in the event so I was hoping to make him someone I hoard gems for (I also have no hydro users besides Barbara lol).

Man, collecting Violetgrass for Qiqi is just the worst, huh? It's just completely haphazardly scattered on the sides of cliffs. I've literally got a map open and finding them is still a total pain in the ass. And I need 30 more of the damn things for the level 60 ascension skill.

Holy shit my first 10 pull after my pity Qiqi got me Raiden Shogun! That more than makes up for my awkward luck so far. Now I just need to actually unlock the Thunder Manifestation so I can actually rank her up lol. And...fuck, I guess I need to seriously grind The Catch now too.

So I know pity carries over between character event banners but does it do so indefinitely? Probably won't pull at all on the next banner, maybe longer, but I still kinda want to pull on the current one while it's up to get more constellations for the 4*s.

Even Qiqi Mains acknowledges that she's not in a stellar spot compared to her peers. That said, you *can* get some good mileage out of her by building her as phys dps. Slap on a prototype archaic. Give her 2pc Bloodstained/2pc Pale Flame. It isn't gonna win you any dps races, but it will mean she can contribute decently while she's doing some heals.

Good to know, I'll keep that in mind. I'm using Xiangling as my main DPS but outside of her I feel like I'm lacking in other good options (I think Razor and Yanfei are my other candidates).

Sceptilesolar posted...
Honestly, not really, but you can use her. She's a much better healer than Barbara. It's just that healing isn't that well regarded by itself.

At the very least I will prioritize her over Barbara then. Noelle is starting to get outscaled and I was thinking of swapping her. And Cryo can help boost Xiangling so this might work better than I thought.

Finally did Ritou Escape Plan and made it to Inazuma, just in time to get the gems from the event! Finally feel like I can go back to taking the game slow again. Well, and grinding, because I just hit AR35. Lots of grinding.

So far the F2P team of Traveler (Anemo) /Xiangling/ Noelle/ Lisa has been serving me well. I could maybe sub Barbara for Noelle and more of those sweet elemental combos but I honestly like using Noelle too much. Xiangling is also C1, funnily enough not from the current banner but because I got her as my 4* from the second newcomer 10 pull before the guaranteed one. She's good so I guess I can't complain.

No 5*s yet (besides Aloy) but I also have Sucrose C2, Kujou Sara C1, and Razor. Not sure if they're worth using but I don't yet have the resources to get any of them up to par.

Act 1 complete! Had to look up how to continue the story because I never did Amber's sidequest but I'm on the Act 2 prologue now. I'm about halfway through AR32 with plenty of more stuff to do. The level grind has really intensified at this point and I'm starting to run out of gold and mats for my main party of 4. Might have to park at 35 for a while when I get there.

How far into Inazuma's story do you have to get to unlock the current limited events? I don't want to miss anything major but I also want to take things a bit more slowly after rushing most of Liyue.

I was AR32-ish when I finished all the content that was available in Liyue. That was before Dragonspine was available, and I also powered through it pretty hard. Someone taking their time, doing more dailies and resin activities, is probably going to be higher.

I'm strangely interested in hearing what the new player experience is like because I have to imagine it's a good bit different.

Yeah, and I mean I'm doing much less exploration in Liyue than I did in Mondstadt. I had over 50% on each subregion there when I finished and over 70 on some, in Liyue I'm near the end of Chapter 1 Act 2 and I have 12-39% (and the 39% is in Sea of Clouds which seems much smaller). I also have not TOUCHED Dragonspine. Don't even have the Statue there, which I think is the only one I have remaining on the map minus Inazuma.

As for new player experience, other than feeling overwhelmed at the sheer amount of Content I'm not really sure. I haven't felt particularly gated on anything outside of the initial AR gating dailies and the like so that's nice. There's a bit of systems overload at the start but it eases you in before the world starts ranking up and it REALLY matters. I hit 20 before I completed the prologue which was a bit of a roadblock but one that I quickly passed by dumping my resources into my main party. The F2P characters seem more than capable (except Amber who I just hate using outside puzzles) and from what I hear they remain that way. I've had a lot of success in combat just by stacking Elemental Mastery on Lisa and comboing her with Xiangling. Noelle has also been an MVP. Still wish it was more generous with wishes outside of the initial 16 is gives for newcomer rolls, but not lacking decent units helps alleviate that.

I remember glancing through the update history and being surprised at some of the QOL/systems that weren't initially there, like the ability to even see completion percentage and the entire area reputation system. That stuff helps. Also there was apparently an entire map that was only available for a limited time? Weird!

I always thought the game had a great content design where you could comfortably pick however much you wanted to play. You can skip all the time sinks if you want.

But now there's so much story content that it is overwhelming. There's lots of gates in the story too, so you have to grind through missions just to see the new stuff. I still haven't seen inazuma because of that. It also sucks to have to skip side missions because you don't have time.

Yeah as a new player this is the issue I have with trying to catch up. During the prologue you're fairly restricted while still having a lot of freedom to explore the initial map, so I didn't feel the FOMO. Yeah, you can't do the limited events but you also have no need to grind. That changes once your world and AR rank up and you get access to the second region, which not only feels MUCH bigger but gives you more and more systems you have to engage with to keep up with the scaling. You can reduce your world level to but that disincentivises exploration since the rewards also get reduced. Add in Inazuma and the limited events requiring story quests, also disincentivising exploratio, and the FOMO fully sets in. I got soooo many sidequests to do and have barely started on side stories because I don't have the time.

Still having a lot of fun with the game, it's just developed a weird set of priorities suddenly. I'm about to hit AR30 but I'm only on Act 2 of Liyue which is going to open up another tier of grind to do. I'm not sure if that's a normal rate of progression or not, but I feel like going through the story more slowly than I do dailies got me to this point.

I'm so impressed that they made a werewolf commander that functions well and even works with the old cards! People have been asking for a decade now. Also just seems good for Standard. Curving Ranger Class into him? Yes please.

I was reasonably excited for spoilers to start but not TOO excited since werewolves and vampires were my least favorite tribes in the original. But werewolves were mostly due to the underwhelming implementation. I always appreciated the interplay with the Human tribe and this new actual day/night mechanic has me hopeful for this redo.

And the original actor who got recast there still voices another character and returns for that role, so it's still 100% returning cast.

Really cool that they did that even if some of the actors were clearly out of practice. The only ones I really had issue with were Beat, whose updated voice was a jarring at first but grew on me a lot, and Neku, whose voice actor had been completely retired from VA work since DDD

I need Spectral Husks which apparently only drop from enemies in that region. The thing about Rindo is that he is quite possibly fiction's least efficient time traveler. And that's kind of amusing and makes for decent drama if you're willing to play along but can also get frustrating. There is a lot of really obvious stuff you'll immediately register as something you'll need to change, and Rindo doesn't care until he has to actually do it either due to indifference or indecision. It gets pretty bad on the last day.

I am still of the mind that Kanye should have stopped at Life of Pablo and just added, removed, and remixed the tracks until it morphed into a completely new album, ever changing. That would have been dope.

Nah, TLOP's final version is one of his best albums, easily top 5. His revision method worked and the final result deserves to remain. He can feel free to try it with this one, though! I think if you cut out half the runtime you could maybe arrive at a great album. There's just too much filler on this one even accounting for the 23 minutes of part 2s.

Also the fact that it's the clean version annoys me immensely, it was all uncensored during the listening parties and it really does mess with the album's vibe which is like...kind of important to what it's doing.

I think this seems to be the actual dev team and not like an Activision-Blizzard corporate response, but it's pretty unclear. My impression is that it would be a weird PR strategy to intentionally delay a major game update and generate more bad press and hot takes than the classic corporate strategy of ignore it and hope it goes away. (Edit: Also as noted this is straight up just extra work for the devs, writers, VAs, etc.)

It's kind of weird and difficult to tell, but the context of who is behind this and the goal they're trying to accomplish is really going to affect my opinion here

Yea I suppose money is another grind, since you need to buy every item.

Not too slow if you know what you're doing, however it's a particularly annoying setup.

The best way I found was to grind the highest tier of pufferfish on Ultimate, which have 100,000 yen pins as a rare drop. So this means you have to go to Cat Street and chain EVERY noise (including the rare blue noise) which gets you a 15 chain. Gets you about 1.5 mil/chain. Obnoxious because the explosions on those things can one-shot the group if you're not careful or just unlucky and have multiple people get hit.

I got 3000 noise during the last series of story battles and got to 6000 towards the tail end of my endgame grind.

I dont think the grind was TOO terrible, but I had been making sure to rotate my pins frequently during the main story and was maybe halfway/two-thirds of the way there on pin collection and mastery when I finished. It still dragged a bit. You end up killing tons of noise and getting lots of EXP while grinding out money anyways so there is some ability to multitask.

Also yeah the lategame kinesis pins kick ass, lots of damage and crowd control. The shields, chains, and time bombs are the pins I despised leveling. Some of the bombs and chains are quite good but they're so unreliable, awful on bosses and big noise, and there are just so many better options for those buttons.

Marvel Comics losing talent over "creative differences" is nothing new. The upside is that they have the ability to attract most of the new talent that comes into the business by the simple fact that they're Marvel. I'm sure they'll get some really good talent on the X-Men in like 5 years or so, about the time when they might actually have room in their lineup for X-Men movies.

Talent being "replacable" is the entire problem and not an "upside" but, yeah, you are exactly correct about what it means for the future of Marvel and the MCU. Not to mention they don't necessarily NEED new talent since they have decades of stories to mine.

Even without tracing the executive lineage, it's just very clear when the comics industry goes for "brand synergy." It starts with tie-ins but you also see the official universes shift to match other media. And as Scarlet says, you get the sense of it being a content farm. When the Civil War movie came out, they did a Civil War 2 storyline to double dip. There's also stuff like, there was a period of time where Marvel de-emphasized X-Men and canceled the Fantastic Four ongoing, and it was suspected (and later confirmed) that this was because of the dispute with Fox over the movie rights.

This isn't even getting into the fact that the writers and artists making the stuff getting farmed into movies do not own the shit and do not get paid adequately for it. But it's related in that it makes the career path to do your time and then get promoted into the executive role to oversee all this, I can point to dudes like Geoff Johns at DC/WB as an example, unsure about Marvel.

well, that segment is fine, anthroporphism aside. Vaccines add selective pressure towards developing a strain that resists the vaccine, similar (but I suppose not identical) to how antibiotic resistant bacteria emerge. And of course that consequence is only relevant to people who actually take the vaccine, it's unlikely that the virus would mutate enough core features to largely evade the vaccine in the near future, it wouldn't be difficult to develop a new vaccine for strains with new features, and decreasing infected biomass (by the population taking vaccines, for example) decreases the opportunities it has to mutate at all, for the benefit of everyone

This is all true, the one thing I'd stress is that selective pressure doesn't create mutations, it can only act on what is already there. This is important because the Delta mutation existing in the first place is largely independent from the vaccination level of the population. Even if Delta mutated in a vaccinated host that's still a totally random event not much different from it mutating in someone who has natural antibodies. Delta's adaptations aren't hyper targeted against the vaccine or anything, it just happened to be more infectious and have a higher viral load and be resistant to antibodies, which turns out to be good against the vaccine.

I'm being pretty pedantic but we're talking basic evolutionary cause and effect here so. If I can offer a reductive hypothetical, the big takeaway is that we very likely would have had to deal with the Delta variant regardless of vaccination. Vaccination levels absolutely allowed it to spread more easily than the original COVID-19 strain so it's not a lock, but people have to understand this stuff (fitness) is all relative.

there's also YIIK which makes every single action in a battle into a minigame

it makes normal battles really long

First of all how dare you make me remember YIIK. Absolutely cursed paper game depression rpg.

Second of all, battles in that game don't take forever due to the action inputs, they take forever because the game is horribly optimized and laggy PLUS the damage numbers and HP totals have absolutely godawful balance. The action inputs are a distant third place contributor!

I don't like that style quite as much because there's a chance of no attack at all if you mess up too badly.

There are definitely moves in Mario RPGs that work this way! And because the numbers are so low, the pity 1 damage or whatever you get on failed commands can still be fairly punishing.

Regarding the reconciliation bill, has anyone heard if any of the climate provisions survived the Senate? I think there was a clean energy standard in there with fines for having less renewable energy and tax credits for clean energy but it's pretty tough to find info. But I'll keep an eye out since it's an ongoing process.

Beat it last night. What a wonderful game! Not to echo previous thoughts but it's very impressive how they made a sequel to a game I thought would be impossible to make a sequel to in this way, and had it feel fresh and familiar all at once. They really nailed the feeling.

The new characters do come into their own eventually, although Rindo remains my least favorite of them. The plot, like the original, is mostly serviceable but it's a lot of fun. Also like the original, I expect the bulk of the TRUE plot to be delivered via the Secret Reports, of which I have very few.

The biggest flaws I can think of are QOL issues (the menuing, no gear sets for cloths, no fast travel), and the combat has some weird difficulty spikes, but other than that I think the game perfectly accomplishes what it's trying to do.

Honestly, Mario-style RPGs are probably distinct enough from traditional RPGs to form a subgenre. I didn't realize indies were working on so many. And JUST like the Metroidvania indie boom, this is happening because major companies basically abandoned their own model. I mean this is just how genres work, right? When it's just Paper Mario and Bug Fables it's an oddity, if there's like 20 of the things it becomes a category.

I mean we had a topic a couple weeks ago classifying Earthbound clones as "depression RPGs" which was fun to think about but this is less of a stretch.

edit: I will say I don't think it is actually defined by the "paper" aesthetic though so much like Metroidvania it's jargon that requires knowledge of Paper Mario's game mechanics

I don't really think I'm a comic nerd at all, I know next to nothing that isn't in the movies. I just think the Harley character is kinda thin to basically be the center of three movies. Like somebody said, she's basically a meme machine instead of having actual depth, which was great at first but it's kinda wearing thin on me now.

I get why she has broad appeal, I'm just personally kinda over it.

Post-Joker Harley has depth but there's a catch that she relies on her supporting cast to express it. Her default state is that she's overconfident and self-centered which gets her into trouble she fights her way out of, which is fun for people to write. But you have to give her a conflict in her own desires to go against that. In BoP and TSS she simply doesn't have major reasons to care about the rest of the cast for most of the movie. I do think the scene mentioned earlier where she shoots the President does showcase some of her depth around her backstory but it's the only scene like that here. But I think she is less of a centerpiece to the movie than Elba and Ratcatcher so I think that's fine.

I dont think this issue is specific to Harley in the comics, but for adaptations she is weird because the most popular version of her character is the one that has already gone through character development. As opposed to like, Batman, where the most popular version of the character is the one that has undergone zero character development so every adaptation resets him to the edgy loner because people are FOOLS who prefer that to Batdad.

Margot Robbie's Harley has an insane amount of broad appeal. Just not among hardcore nerds. When James Gunn asked if there was anything he needed to include from the original Studio Squad, the studio said that Margot Robbie was the one thing they'd want to see come back. She's one of the most popular comic book characters among casuals right now.

Correct, "universal appeal" would have been a better term for me to use. The specific demographic she doesn't hit is a subset of hardcore male comic book nerd who, let's be honest, self-select for posting on internet forums.

Well it did make a bunch of money, I dunno if that directly translates into love from the general audience though. It has a rotten audience score whereas its sequels do not.

So last month a bunch of Texas Dems went to Washington to prevent Republicans from passing a voter suppression law and get the federal government to do something. Wonder how that's going.

While I don't think your point is wrong in theory, this is a pretty funny example in practice because people do misuse Orwellian all the time

Oh and as for why the general even exists, this movie is gesturing loudly but vaguely at real-world politics, though it's pretty confused and doesn't really have a clear message about it. But all I'll say is, it is very interesting that they had the anti-American coup leader that the Squad came to ruin legitimately be a naive idealist and hopeless romantic before handing the power over to his more ruthless and militaristic subordinates.

Harley shooting the general and saying she'd promised herself she'd murder her next boyfriend at the first sign of any red flags was one of the funniest jokes in the movie so hard disagree on cutting that scene. I think what is happening here is that Margot Robbie's Harley doesn't have broad appeal, so you guys may not see it, but I see a ton of love for her elsewhere.

Also Harley is canonically bisexual which mean, yes, she will occasionally be interested in men. Which is not to say they shouldn't put her with Ivy in live action (Margot Robbie herself pushes for this btw), but just that bisexuality does in fact be like that.
