I always say that AI/Automation/whatever is not going to replace jobs, it is just going to make them more efficient so that less people can produce the same output. Even in programming that is true. Ever use Spring Initializer to build a Spring Boot application? That is AI. It does 90% of the "bitch" work, and you fill in the business logic and fix any bugs in what it produced. So instead of having a team take 6 months to build a program, you can have one person do it in a month.

Personally, I am happy not having to spend hundreds of hours manually typing in hundreds of lines of code like we did 10-15 years ago.

If you want proof about how incompetent the government is...

Back in 2004, a judge was shot and killed in her home by someone she sent to prison. Chuck Schumer did a search on an application I used to work on (this was before I worked on it though, I was hired during the "fallout"), found that he can find the personal information of every government employee and freaked out. The government forced us to opt-out all VIPs from our system.

Fast forward 10 years, the CIA buys use of our application. In using it, they notice that a bunch of government employees are missing, and demand that we get them added in. We remind them of said law from 10 years ago that prevents us from adding them back in. They basically go "oh..." and I am pretty sure they still use that application to this day.

Fucking morons, the lot of them.

NES: I know a lot of people have a soft spot for it, but Legacy of the Wizard is a confusing, unfairly hard, mess. I get it is probably one of the first open world "metroidvania" RPGs, but it just does not work. They are trying to do way to much with the limited NES abilities. Runner up goes to Faxanadu, which is apparently from the same series.

SNES: Probably Drakkhen. I see a lot of people say 7th Saga as well, but I didn't think it was that bad. At the very least it is pretty innovative.

Genesis: Either Super Hydlide or Sword of Vermilion. I'll give it to Sword of Vermilion just because it is rather boring instead of "So bad it is good" like Super Hydlide.

That would just be their justification to push for full cloud storage and streaming play. Don't have to worry about storage space when you're not storing anything locally.

I doubt that would happen in the near future given that even gigabit internet has a hard time playing streaming games without a very noticeable hit to latency. It is why Stadia failed so hard and no one gives a crap about Playstation Plus.

But subscription services like XBox Game Pass? You bet your ass they will push that hard. Difficult to make people justify paying $60-$70 for every game that comes out. But $20 a month for access to all the games? People will pay that easily even if they are just buying it to play CoD. It is why they are so popular. Minimal effort for maximum profit.

They're still growing, but there are substantial diminishing returns in terms of player experience. Paying hundreds of dollars for a very marginal increase in visual fidelity isn't overly appealing. Meaningful growth now is going to be more along the lines of rendering more entities at once or otherwise having games that are more computationally complex (which is generally more of a CPU thing, as I understand it), or improvements in form factor like what the Switch did (which the Steam Deck has followed up and the PS Portal has quasi-mimicked).

We are basically getting to the point where graphics aren't really going to improve at a significant margin anymore. The only real improvements from 10 years ago are higher resolutions and frame rates. Compare that to the jump from 1974 - 1984, 1984 - 1994, 1994 - 2004, and 2004 - 2014. All of those are way more significant, and arguably an equally huge leap in fidelity. We are also at the point where we can't make processors any smaller while maintaining the same speeds. So a lot of what we are getting are software improvements like "Ray Tracing".

So while I don't think consoles will become "obsolete", they will likely be very different 10 years from now and arguably unrecognizable. We also aren't going to see the price drops like we used to, since I don't think they can be made any cheaper then they are now and companies no longer want to produce them at a loss to push sales of software since most titles are getting multi-platform releases.

And of course, Nintendo will do their own thing because they hold the spot as the largest gaming company worldwide:

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1197213/market-value-of-the-largest-gaming-companies-worldwide

So yea, Nintendo won the console war people...

I would disagree on the 2D front, even as a fan of 2D Sonic. 2D Mario is just in a class of its own, nothing compares to it. 2D Sonic is easily in top 5 2D platformers though.

3D Mario easily beats out 3D Sonic, but pretty much everything beats out 3D Sonic except maybe Bubsy 3D. That doesn't make 3D Mario good though, just better by default.

If a 12 year old game is your most demanding, then most decent laptops should play it. I would error on the higher end since "I just want to play X on it" usually leads to "Why can't I play game that is 5 times more demanding than X?" a year or two down the road. A gaming laptop might not be a bad idea since you can get some decent ones for less than the price of a new graphics card. Steam Deck is also an option if you don't mind messing around with dev mode to do anything other than play Steam games.

I always felt that non-realistic games age way better. Go back and play some "realistic" games from just a few generations ago and you will see what I mean. Meanwhile, the games that went with a more unique art style look way better even under a modern lens.

It is like CGI vs. animatronics for movies. CGI from even 10 years ago looks really bad, but movies that used animatronics from the 80's still look good today.

He was tall, glasses, always wore a Tool shirt (probably owned like 20 or 30 of him) and despite the fact that he was way smarter than anyone else in school, he pretty much spent all of his teens and 20's in college. In fact even though he was 2 or 3 years older than me, he was still in some of my college classes because he just wanted to take the same classes over and over again to prove how smart he was.

She ended up calling her husband who, after hearing us both out, essentially agreed with me. Stupid thing was it was just a scratch on both our cars and I wasn't going to involve insurance anyways since the time and paperwork was more effort then just covering it with some touchup paint. I think this was in either 9th or 10th grade, I had a friend who would bring an apple for lunch every day, fill it with random substances (milk, applesauce, soup, chili, etc.), then we would go to the stair well just outside the cafeteria and throw it against the wall above the stairs just so we could see it splatter and drip down onto the stairs. Did this for months and never got caught or in trouble.

The last time we did it, he brought a bottle of blue modeling paint. So we filled it with that and threw it against the wall. Paint splatter was there for the rest of the year, they didn't even try to paint over it until summer break.

Bad management is like a funnel. CEO's shit on you from high, managers funnel it all down to one person until that person is overflowing with shit, and they get replaced with the next shit bag who is dumb enough to sit under them.

My work gives me two "volunteer" days every year. Some people spend one on a "Day of caring" with the big local charity. I usually use it spending a day at the soup kitchen for the nearby shelter, or helping an elderly person clean their house. I would volunteer at an animal shelter, but that is the "default" for a lot of people so they end up having way more volunteers then work for them to do.

I remember thinking I was so much cooler than everyone else for being apathetic about politics. Those were good times. It's a pity that high school ends so fast.

To be fair, I was super political in high school and most of college. Getting a minor in Political Science was enough to turn me off of political discussions for the rest of my life.

It's weird; when I watch a YouTube video or play a game on my phone with Bluetooth headphones, I can notice a clear delay between what I'm seeing and hearing. But when I play a game with a Bluetooth controller, I don't notice any kind of input delay.

They are using better technology in the controllers then in headphones. An audio delay is not a dealbreaker, most people can accept it for the convenience of bluetooth. The same is not true for controllers, any noticeable delay (outside of pro players, who will spend hundreds of dollars on a high-end controller anyways so they aren't the target market) would absolutely kill any benefit to them being wireless.

Edit:

Oh, yea...

To be fair, I did once get a job when I told them I was lazy in the interview.

There is a difference between being lazy and not actually doing your job.

Lazy is finding the quickest and easiest way to do your job with minimal effort. Depending on the job, that can be an asset.

Not doing your job is...slacking off and not doing your job. No one wants that.

No, I usually wait until the weekend they are due. Last year I got a refund for the first time since Trump took office, and I might actually get one this year. But it probably won't be much. Like $50 at the most.

Better then owing $400 the previous year...

Idk seems kind of dumb to work for $15/hour and then pay $40 for 1 hour of labor on my end.

Let me just say (not as a dig, more as for your own benefit), that I hope you are still in school because that is WOEFULLY low for your skill set. I was making $15/hour, 20 years ago for an internship at a small company. Starting rate for a Software Engineer is almost 3 times that now.

My car came with free oil changes for life, so I have just had the dealership do it for the last 10.5 years. I did it once on my previous car, but it wasn't something I would ever do on the regular. More of a "yea, I can do it, put that notch on my belt" thing.
