That is actually true of avacados and apples as well. Even though those have seeds, growing them won't give you the same plant, and what they will give you is different each time (although it probably won't be appetizing).

The only way to reliably reproduce them is through grafting.

Sure if you're public transit is absolutely crap

But car ownership

$40,000 to $50,000 purchase price including interest

Hundreds of dollars in monthly insurance
Hundreds of dollars in monthly gasoline
Hundreds of dollars in upkeep, oil and tires

It's like the average person is paying 1/4 of their pay check just for transportation

You aren't spending that much on a car unless you are buying a "status symbol" car.

In the 9 years I had my car, I probably spend $50 a year on upkeep (or I would have if I didn't get free oil changes for life), gas at my heaviest driving was probably $80 a month (before insane gas prices we have now, but I also only fill my tank once every 3 months now so it is way less), and insurance is $40 a month because I don't get into accidents, am not in the "danger age group" (16-25), and I bundle with homeowners insurance for a discount. Plus, my car cost $20K because I bought it new. I could get a car for way less used.

I'm not saying driving is "so cheap that even those in poverty can do it", but it is much less then you are making it out to be. We pay way more for rent, which is a real scam.

Metal is its own genre.

Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States

Literally the first line in the definition. Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple are even considered Metal bands along with Black Sabbath.

Want me to blow your mind further? Grunge music is derived from metal, not punk. Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Perl Jam, and Soundgarden are just metal bands playing less "clean" music then was popular in the 80's.

It is a sub-genre. It absolutely fits under rock. Hell, Queen is halfway to being a metal band if you listen to some of their older stuff before Bohemian Rhapsody (and some of their stuff in the mid-late 80's).

And you didn't put Sabbath under the 60's because they were in the 70's. Although oddly you put Led Zeppelin in the 60's despite the fact they arguably had most of their popularity in the 70's. Their 60's stuff is what most people consider their "plagiarism" era.

Right now they basically broke apart the lining, filled it with dirt, and are now flattening it out. I doubt they will put grass seed down since they are the only ones who mow around there. Oh well, at least a dirt pit is better then a nasty, unkempt pool.

Metroid is actually a point I almost disagree with myself on actually lol. Metroid peaked with 2D sidescrolling action; the demo of Dread was great but the 3D entries of Metroid aren't shit compared to the 2D formula (which they probably felt compelled to invest in, given the times). Mega Man's another I can see; though I'm personally not a fan of any MM, we all know literally noone liked Mighty Number 9.

I like the 2D games better then the Prime series as well, but actually going back and playing NES Metroid in a universe where Zero Mission exists? Come on...

As someone who grew up with GBC Zelda games, both 1 and 2 feel unplayable for me. 1 feels strictly inferior to the GBC games (and the original Link's Awakening), and 2 is wat (actraiser without any gimmicks??).

I agree that Link's Awakening is probably my favorite Zelda game ever, and Link to the Past is arguably the best Zelda game ever, but Zelda 1 still holds up. Sometimes I don't want to play a longer game like those 2. I just want something simple yet rewarding. Zelda 1 is that.

And honestly, Zelda 2 is probably a different type of game altogether, albeit still highly influential.

I think it's entirely fair to say old games don't hold up now. They literally don't. They were good for their time, but advancements in technology and gaming culture have pushed them away from the title of Best Game Of All Time. Best Game Of Their Time would be a different discussion, but I don't think saying Twilight Princess is a better game than Zelda 1 would be incorrect.

I don't think most old games hold up today, because few haven't been imitated in a superior way (either through official sequels, fan games, or spiritual successors). Even if I have my favorites among old games, I'll easily concede they're not as good as newer counterparts.

And I can agree on some games. Metroid is a great example and I think most of the complains that people say about Zelda 1 apply way more accurately to it. The Metroid series is my favorite video game series, and the original Metroid is arguably one of the most important games ever. That said, it is complete crap by today's standard.

What I am saying is Zelda 1 isn't one of those games. It is still enjoyable by today's standards even if there are "better" games out there. It isn't my favorate and it certainly has way less features then later games, but given to someone completely new to the series, I think they would still have fun with it. Sure, Breath of the Wild is a way better game, but I can still play Zelda 1 5 or 10 more times before I do another playthrough of Breath of the Wild. The simplicity and the way it is balanced is the appeal of it. It rewards exploration without being completely obtuse.

Yeah, this game isn't remembered for what it actually was.

It's got so much good content in it, but unfortunately you constantly have to stay in the same area over and over for like an hour just to survive the next part. And while the combat isn't boring, it gets so damn repetitive.

It's probably worth watching a playthrough for though. I should do that sometime.
Depends on the difficulty you play it on. On hard, sure, you have to grind a ton. On easy, you barely have to do anything besides the bare minimum.

No diagonal movement and the only sword attack is a stab. It feels extremely unnatural. Even the Game Boy Zeldas put the original to shame in terms of controls.

You are confusing terrible for simplistic. Terrible would mean that the controls are antithetical to what the game expects you to do. Simplistic simply means that the game leaves things out that you don't need. A great example would be Mortal Kombat. In 1-3, the controls were simplistic because you had very little control when jumping around with the character, but the game didn't expect you to do much except jump towards or away from your opponent. Using those same controls for a platformer like Anthologies: Sub Zero made them lapse into terrible.

The original Zelda's controls are simplistic, because the game is grid based. No diagonal movement and only stabbing with the sword makes sense because the game doesn't expect you to move diagonally, and makes enemies that don't have flanking tactics. It works in the context of the game you are playing. The later Zelda's added those things so naturally the controls were updated to account for that.

The controls for the original Zelda are terrible.

How so? Move with the directional pad, B for item, A for sword.

How is that "terrible"?

There's a dungeon that is hidden under a random bush you need to burn, with no indication given that you need to do that. Very few people found that on their own.

You mean the dungeon that is the second to last one after the game has told you that there are secrets hidden under bushes? The one hidden under the singular bush in the forest that blocks your path from going from one end of the screen to the other? The one that I literally found three dungeons before I was supposed to when I was a kid?

It hasn't aged well at all.

Again, I fail to see the argument for this.

Every time I hear the arguments on why the original Legend of Zelda didn't age well, they usually boil down to "The game doesn't hold your hand like modern games do".

It litterally came with an overworld map packed in with the cartridge, and most dungeons guide you to the map and compass just like in newer games. It is a game about exploration yet it still guides you to where you need to go. There are plenty of old NES games that didn't age well (Metroid), Legend of Zelda isn't one of them.

Egg sandwich for breakfast, burger for lunch.

Haven't decided what to have for dinner yet, probably mini corn. The burger was filling so I don't feel like having a full dinner.

How deep does that history go?

If you can see it on your history, then I can see it on your history.

Most 3D platformers before they figured out cameras and controls.

Warcraft is an awesome game that is pretty much unplayable by today's standards. If any game needs a "reforged" edition it is that.

I have always argued the worst part about the Mega Man Legends series is that the games aged like milk. Hell, they were pretty bad control-wise by late 90's standards.

Dismissive posts which are both knee-jerk and zero content/value on a board which is mostly used to ask for moderation clarification feels like it borders pretty hard on trolling/flamebait, though.

The whole board borders on trolling/flamebait, that is the problem.

They would still be ToS violations, though. And it would still be the job of the mods to deal with it. And you'd still be obligated to address issues if other users are marking the posts, because they'd wind up in somebody's queue.

Sure, "mod discretion" is certainly a thing, but "we're not modding you for being an asshole because there are too many assholes" feels like a dereliction of duty sort of scenario. And having a board where asshole behavior is basically ignored and moderation is completely hands-off kind of sets a bad precedent.

Key point is the bolded part, we rarely if ever see marked posts from Hellhole in the queue. And when we do, yes, they get moderated if needed. But that happens very rarely.

At least that is my experience. Most mods avoid the board for obvious reasons. So the only way those posts are going to get moderated is if someone marks them, and I haven't seen a single mark about spamming from Hellhole.

I got modded for saying it. Was classified as abusive

Did you dispute it? Because it certainly sounds like a candidate to be overturned.

edit: OK, reading why you were moderated, it was not because you told them to "fuck off", it was the insult you slung at them before that.

You could probably mark them all for abusive or trolling.

Do it across enough topics, and the tidal wave of moderations in rapid succession would probably get their accounts banned.

It's Hellhole, trying to moderate Hellhole is like trying to use Scrubbing Bubbles to disinfect the NYC sewer system.

Plus "Fuck off" isn't abusive, it is dismissive.

You mean like how Metal Gear are two completely different things in both versions. Or how that opening cutscene was only in the NES version and never explained who the other parachuters were. Or how about the opening areas are different in both versions.
Exactly, those only account for small parts of the game.

The rest of the game is pretty much exactly the same in both versions minus some very small differences.

They aren't "completely different" by any means, if anything they are about 70% the same. The problem is the NES version is a bad port.

People who think they are completely different probably never got past the first section of the NES game, or only hear about the final boss. Those is the only major differences between the two. Everything else was just bad translations and lack of polish for the NES version.

It's fine, the switch gets hot around the top (which makes sense because that is where the vents are) and you have plenty of clearance there.
