Well, I type "US bank" into the browser bar which functions as a search bar. Anyways, I have an account with them and rather then go to www.usbank.com I just type it in and click on the link.

However, since google is such ass, the first link to come up was an AD for Bank of America.

....NOT what I asked for!!!

Funny enough I cannot replicate this now but it did happen.

It was one of those links that says "ad" under it in small text, but not like an actual popup ad or anything else. I do use adblock but I guess a few google links that look like search results slip through.

I love how if you have Edge as your default browser and use Bing to search for Firefox or Chrome it basically breaks down and starts begging you not to switch browsers.

There should be a setting to block those. I looked trhough my firefox and Adblocker settings but couldn't find it. Soemthing about allowing an adblocker to not block "unobtrusive" ads.

My favorite is when the Google-sponsored links download malware on your machine.

There really needs to be legislation holding sites responsible for damages caused by ads they run. That companies will insist that it's not their fault that their advertisers distributed malware then turn around and whine about users blocking ads is really just pathetic.

I think we are well and truly past this point, but if ads where basically what they were back in the mid-late 90's (just one or two banner ads that a site got money for every click), I wouldn't use an ad blocker. In my eyes, ad blockers are a requirement so I don't need to buy a new computer every 6 months, not a "nice to have".

So go after the advertisers. If the advertisers are overseas, they should regulate that stuff. Canada created Bill C-18 so it is possible.
