I'd say yes but there's any number of reasons for why it's in peril.

If my party doesn't win then democracy is dead.

It was in peril between the 1960s and 1980s. Now it's a sham held for show when so many of us know the truth about who runs things and how. We all hate it, but can can we do besides point and jeer?

This man gets it.

You have two political parties that do little to nothing to serve the public, and instead primarily serve the interests of donors and large corporations. There are no sizable third parties.

Both of these parties paint the other party as being the source of all the nation's problems.

Both parties have their own privately run propaganda networks that have by and large drowned out independent, unbiased national news stations. These networks further reinforce the "us vs them" mentality the parties themselves have been pushing, except with this mentality being presented as being an unbiased truth to a population that has miserable critical thinking skills due to the gradual erosion of a strong public education system.

We are approaching the one year anniversary of when a sitting president ordered an insurrection to, at the very least, disrupt a democratic process, and at the most, kill his opponents and overturn the results of the election to effectively crown himself as dictator.

I'd be curious as to what those voting "no" would consider "peril".

What democracy? We have a demagogue as president controlled by people who only care for wealth.

It barely ever was one. So many people were not eligible to vote for so long, then once they were the powers that be began to restrict their ability to do so. Not to mention lobbying and other crap.

US Democracy isn't in trouble. The Democratic Party is (mostly of its own doing).

Because to a Republican democracy is winning at all costs, not actually preserving the right to meaningfully have a voice in government.

There should be an equal number of Democrats and Republicans in every position of power at any given time. The title of president should be replaced with dual consuls. This will ensure a fair and balanced democracy between the two elements.

I think you need to learn what this word means. The Republicans aren't the party that's telling me what, language I'm allowed to use, what I'm allowed to own, and where I'm allowed to go without their approval.

They're the party telling you what to do with your body, who you can love, who you should worship, what language you should be mandated to speak in, what speech you should be forced to publish, ect.

The US not having an official language is an idiosyncrasy that I can foresee causing problems in the future.

Had it been set as (American) English in the past, no one would care and it would just have been an accepted thing. Nowadays you are in a situation wherein other languages also need to be considered.

Italian didnt become the official language of Italy until 1999.

Actually, it was WWII when Mussolini tried to unify all of Italy, which wasn't considered one country until another date. The Italian language was an obscurity from one city-state, spoken by only a few of said location, until Dante wrote the Divine Comedy in that language; and even then the language didn't grow across the region of Italia until a few centuries later. Each city-state, be it Milano, Sicily, Venice, et al., had moved to their own languages during that time. Yet it was Mussolini who moved to make it the official language of the entire land.

If I had my sources handy, I'd share them right this moment, but I'm doing other things. So take what I've said here with a grain of salt.

Means you understand whats happening.

We're pretty much past peril and have moved onto farce.

One of the two major political parties co-opted an attempted coup after doing all in their power to try and stifle free and fair voting, and instead of said party being disbanded and their agents put in jail, they will likely win the House and Senate in a year's time.

It's hard to undersell how much of a joke American Democracy is right now.

Democracy has always been a fucking joke. Instead of rule by the people and respecting the public's will, it's just a code word for rule by the rich, owerful, and well connected.
