Also just a quick reminder that while the 3DS has a "Download Later" option at the point of purchase, the Wii U does not, so if you don't have the space available to download it immediately, it won't let you buy it (again, this is at the point of purchase; you can of course delete stuff and redownload it later).

The 3DS will also stop you from purchasing a game if you don't have enough space (I ran into this a few times last night). However, you can use the website instead and buy it there. No luck for the Wii U though, which has no games on the website.

Probably less than you'd think. I imagine B8 (and maybe GameFAQs in general?) is an incredible outlier when it comes to purchasing digital content for defunct consoles that you need workarounds to even add funds to anymore.

You say this, but I can't even access the Wii U eShop due to high traffic. So we're absolutely not alone on this.

Like yeah, the general gaming populace probably aren't bothered by the eShop shutdown since they moved on to current gen, but I wouldn't count out the people that were really into the 3DS and Wii U.

I'm getting a "eshop closed due to maintenance" message right now, which could either be high traffic or they shut it down earlier than they said they would.

Really hope it isn't too late, there were purchases I hadn't made yet.

Woops. Not a gigantic loss, but I did still have a code for Darksiders II, the Shantae HGH Tinkerbat transformation, and the full game of Shantae HGH that I was going to give away since I bought the retail version.

As of a few hours ago this was a viable method but as of now it seems that all of the 3DS games that don't have retail versions can no longer be purchased through this method.

You can use a credit card but FYI you typically save a bit of money going with points cards, because points cards are frequently discounted by the stores that sell them. For example Costco is almost always 10% off $100, Newegg does 10% off $50 pretty often, and Target will do 7.5% off any value a couple times a year which goes to 12.5% off if you have a Target Red credit/debit card. And of course there's Eneba where you can get up to ~20% off if you're lucky (but it's kinda sketchy).

Luckily I redeemed my code for Rhythm Thief so I can sell my physical copy and offset most of what I'm spending on this.

Let me tell you, as a neurodivergent, the FOMO associated with this has had me really out of whack, in addition to a lot of other things in my life currently screwing up my equilibrium, so hopefully after 8pm tonight, this will all be out-of-sight, out-of-mind, and even if I don't get everything I even kinda think I might want (I won't), it won't be bothering me. That's what happened with the Wii.

Yeah absolutely. I'm mostly ignoring stuff I know I'll never play and maybe about to drop 40 on Bowser's Inside Story instead because I've never played it (original or 3DS remake). The remake seems to be even more expensive everywhere else so! The original is a little cheaper, but not much.

Yep, had to move all the content from my 32GB card to PC and then transfer that to a 128 GB card formatted to be compatible with 3DS.

I gotta say, it was really nice how DSiWare was preserved through the 3DS eShop. It's too bad the dedicated handheld is deader than disco, so there's no way that could have happened here.

So if you want to transfer out of that copy of Pearl you'll probably need to pay the $5 for a subscription before the shop goes down, and this assumes you have a copy of one of Black/White/Black 2/White 2 to transfer to. Transfer from DS Pokemon to 3DS requires the Pokemon be in a Gen V game and you have to have Pokemon Transporter, which is a separate app you can only download if you have/had a Bank subscription - and since they haven't said it'll be available after the shutdown, it seems likely that it won't, so you'll have to get it before then.

As to the second part, no, the GB/GBA games on Switch are just like NES/SNES/etc., have to have the subscription. (And the only Pokemon they've announced for NSO are GB TCG and N64 Stadium.)

EDIT: Also, if you want to get those Pearl Pokemon into a Switch game you'll also need to be subscribed to Pokemon Home, since that's required to move them from Bank.

Don't quote me on this but it SOUNDS like you're good? In order to have downloaded Transporter, you would had to have downloaded Bank as well from what I understand. You couldn't JUST download Transporter.

Ok I lied, got DLC for one more 3DS game.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux - Thankfully you can access the DLC from the main menu. There are some free DLC, but it's all items and equipment.

Azure Striker Gunvolt was said to have DLC, but I think it was an update patch that added in Japanese voices to the dialogue, so it's more like the other releases of Gunvolt.

Mighty Gunvolt on the other hand, does have DLC for a couple more stages

Runbow on Wii U also has 2 characters as free DLC.

Got a couple more things off the Wii U eShop and I am good now.

Yeah, I have the transport app from when I grabbed Bank during free trial for the Celebi, just can't really go beyond the home screen yet.
But I never deleted anything, just never paid for a sub.

I feel Strange Journey will one day see life again on another system.

Well I just had the dumbest conundrum of all time.

I couldn't find my Wii U Gamepad charging cable. Pro controller charged and ready to go, but Nintendo being Nintendo, I HAVE to use the Gamepad to set up my wi-fi since it changed recently. Literally zero reason not to allow me to do that on the pro controller. Oh Nintendo

Anywho I finally found it. I have so many cables and shit I just need to throw out. If I can't figure out what it goes to, it needs to go in the trash. I'm realizing I...might be a hoarder

I plugged it in and for a solid 20 seconds it didn't light up, but then it did. So damn suspenseful

You need the Game Pad to access the eShop anyway, even if your WiFi already was set up. But yeah, that was incredibly frustrating of Nintendo to force you to use the gamepad for things that didn't need it.

Huh, Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition for 3 bucks on the Wii U eshop. Never played that version but heard it's the best. Why not! Might be cool to return to after RE4 remake.

Might want to contact Nintendo about getting those points back. They should have delisted that reward earlier given the impending shutdown. Too bad though, it's actually a really good Picross game.

Ended up getting Bowser's Inside Story since I've never played/had it on either system and didn't realize it was an expensive one physically. I'm passing on Superstar Saga for now since I have the GBA version but I wish there were a way to get Bowser's Minions separately (likewise, I'm not interested in rebuying 3D World just for Bowser's Fury but I know I still have plenty of years to finalize that decision).

I'm passing on Superstar Saga for now since I have the GBA version but I wish there were a way to get Bowser's Minions separately (likewise, I'm not interested in rebuying 3D World just for Bowser's Fury but I know I still have plenty of years to finalize that decision).

If you liked 3D World as much as I did, it's worth getting again for the improvements to that alone. The game is so much faster now. I've heard the online is trash with lag though, but Nintendo gonna Nintendo.

And Bowser's Fury is absolutely amazing. I think I got like 18 hours out of it with three playthroughs.

Wii U eShop had a lot of eShop goods in its own VC that continued to be shockingly extensive, and spreading out to cover platforms that neither the Wii nor 3DS could with GBA & DS selections, and even Wii games!

Wii eShop the only big loss for me was like FFCCMLaaK, the rest I could still feel good with the Wii U covering it

Got all of the FE DLC, Pushmo, and Stretchmo. Thought about getting Pokmon Transporter but realistically Id never use it.

I decided earlier in the week that I was cutting my losses on FE Fates Revelations.

Looked through my libraries to see if I had any super significant last-second recommendations that haven't been mentioned but I don't really think I do. I guess I'll just reiterate that this is likely the last opportunity ever to legally get Harvest Moon 64 in North America without paying $80+ for the original cartridge.

And in like every Smash since Brawl. Also since the Wii Shop is currently up for redownloading (it was down for some time last year but has since gone back up) you can just go in and listen.

An under-the-radar game that I've seen come up as a recommendation on quite a few lists of of "games you might have missed" is Crimson Shroud. Apparently it's a full-fledged tactical RPG but the characters are presented as literal models like in a tabletop RPG. Can anyone vouch for this one?
