Assume the songs are being played on the local FM station

Everyone has heard somebody answer the question of "what music do you like" or "what kind of music do you want to listen to" with the phrase "anything but ______." Most commonly the blank is either country or rap. If you found yourself in a life-threatening contrived hypothetical scenario that even crazyisgood couldn't save you from, which of the two genres is going to be in your "anything but" blank? As noted in the poll, assume the music is being played on a local FM mainstream radio station.

I had to reread the question like 3 times to make sure I was doing it right.

Rap isn't all terrible. I voted country because it is all terrible aside from like Johnny Cash.

Hopefully I'm not too dumb for the poll.

Country isn't all terrible but the country you will almost certainly hear from a radio station will be

I worked a job over the summer that played the same 20 country songs for forty hours a week. A few of that station's favorite tracks are assuredly still in my top listened songs of all time. Agony

I would say anything but heavy metal.

Of the two, I guess I dislike rap more but it's close in that I'm mostly neutral on both

Classic country music is infinitely more listenable to me than modern country music, so it really depends what era of country I have to choose between.

Do people still say this? I know it was a big thing when I was in my teenage years but I haven't noticed it as much once I got older. Unless it just stayed in the teenage group forever... But that's probably not true because it seems like rap is more popular among teens now than it was when I was that age (based on my limited interaction with teenagers on the internet which I know isn't representative of all people IRL).

I don't particularly enjoy either genre, especially from a mainstream sense, but modern country is much harder to ignore because I find the similar twang in all their singing voices so very grating.

I don't like both in their purest form, but both are tolerable when mixed with their best compliment.

Like, there are many rap + R&B songs I like, and likewise, there are country + pop songs I like. But I'm not a fan of either in their purest form.

Rap is still incredibly strong into today, even one of the biggest mainstream artists Kendrick Lamar is still at the top of his game.

Country today has some prominent ones (Sturgill Simpson, Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton) that show at its heart Country can be powerful but boy do you have to wade through a lot of bullshit to get those diamonds.

I think the reason metal is usually exempted from this conversation is the same reason I've never heard this about country personally - metal isn't mainstream enough for people to form an aversion to it, the same as country isn't in the UK. I have no opinion about country music because I'm just never exposed to any, but if it had any regular play I think I'd be pretty predisposed to hate most of it

I don't dislike either. There are more rap and hip hop artists that I like, a wider range of different artists, and I like them more on average. And honestly there's not that much country I actively enjoy. Some artists with country influence can utilize it pretty well, though you have to start arguing the line between folk and country at that point. Still I've probably listened to 50+ hours of rap this year, and I doubt I've listened to 50 hours of country in the last 3+ years. I guess the choice is obvious for me...
