that may actually be it technically, but when I got into pokemon in 2003, before I settled on porygon2, i know i switched between tons i liked a lot as I was learning about them all for the first time. So may have considered other things #1 at some point in 2003 (electabuzz, electrike, lanturn). I only listed Charmeleon above because I actually have it documented on some list i made that it was my favorite pokemon at the time, but I actually wouldn't have guessed I ever thought that. Would've assumed it more likely i have lanturn or electrike on there because I talked about those far more often

also. electrike is the only pokemon to maintain its status as a top 5 pokemon for me all the way from 2003-now, which is a pretty astounding status with how much my tastes have changed. maybe even more impressive than anything else listed for me to like it so consistently for so long. but i'm not sure it was ever #1 outside of thin periods in ~2015 and possibly 2003.

i'm not really sure exactly when the quilava->electrike->sneasel transition happened because it was slow and gradual and at some point i was just "oh wait huh, i guess this is my favorite one now" in that order.

first poke kinda has to be a Charizard vs Blastoise battle since they were on the box... soooo Charizard right away there.

I liked the Charmander line pretty well, even went to school with a homemade Charmeleon costume from my mom in like grade 2? Can't say may actual fav of the bunch but it's probably Charizard, I really liked his back sprite and that's what you're seeing most the time.

I think at another point my fav became Scyther thanks to his rad blade arms and I mean he flies too. I did also like Pinsir but her probably didn't make it to the #1 slot.

Eventually though I was big on Pikachu merch, loved my fat stuffed pikachu and even named a family cat Pikachu (... and Ash & Misty).

I'm not sure when though my fav switched to Raichu who has remained my current fav for a long while now. I think I remember preferring him since the Lt. Surge anime gym battle, wishing Pikachu evolved.

at some point Totodile might've taken it for a bit but I can't say for sure. I definitely loved picking him as my starter (... even as a kid yes I did emulate a japanese copy before the global release)

i think the episode where they revealed that the Electabuzz baseball team was like the worst of all time unconsciously may have had something to do with a favorite change at the time because i remember feeling very hurt by it lol
