Match 3 was close in the early goings but aside from that everything was pretty cut and dry today. Sunleth proves its R1 performance was no fluke, and Extreme XIV isn't living in the original's shadow. Don't worry Force Your Way fans, the OG track will get a chance later in the round! ...And so will The Extreme, and Bombing Mission Remake. And there is another Decisive Battle!

Kuon > To Zanarkand for me, no doubt, I can see/understand how it might not be that interesting but I legit think it's one of the most beautiful FF songs out there, maybe the most.

I wonder if it can beat XIV Extreme knowing that "real" Extreme is still kicking and has a great shot at proceeding on its side of the semifinal bracket... winner of XIV Extreme/Kuon beats the winner of Sunleth/Bombing Mission imo

And btw since I'm at it, thinking of a sequel song being better than its equivalent from the original: Sanctuary > Simple and Clean

The first three matches were all tight for a while, but Sephiroth had longer reach and spoilers ensued. Court Jesters was up by 6 votes at one point but Shadowbringers came back hard (as XIV tends to do!), and Suteki v V was a deadlock 5 minutes before the end.

In other news... poor The Landing >_> I take responsibility for this bracket placement, though at this rate Extreme may be eviscerating anything it comes across. Good luck next round, Main Theme of FFV, you'll need it!

Valse becomes the first 16 seed through to round 3, and after coming into the contest with 3 tracks Aeris dies right here. Terra absolutely dominates Battle X, and I wouldn't want to be up against her any time soon!

Bombing Mission joins Extreme in the 'two versions of the same track in round 3' club, and X has a truly dreadful day going 0 for 3. Ending Theme was 6 votes up at one point! From a joint-leading 16 tracks going into the contest, FFX is already down to 3. And two of them haven't had a match this round yet. Yikes!

Everybody complaining about XIV song lengths, and 7R song lengths before that... all i hear is "no, please, don't give me more of a good thing! I do not want more goodness!"

(....I say as I still have 1-hour loop tabs of Woe that is Madness, Ultima and Insanity still open in my browser, I just can't relate...)

Part of me hopes that it's like, anthem fatigue that led to it losing and that fatigue would carry over to Zanarkand, but I won't hold my breath. Main Theme of 7 losing was a surprise but this one was a real shock. FF7 never wins ;(

That being said, I do like Valse and I'll at least be voting for it next round! I don't even remember when it plays in XV come to think of it... andy help me out here? Feels like some late afternoon/sun about to set music?

OG FF7 has three tracks into round 3, that's more than literally any other game right now!

Plays when riding in the car after beating Loqi Tummelt, when Iris rides with the group to Cape Caem, and when the party first arrives at Altissia.

I looked it up when it first came up in noms, as I vaguely remembered hearing it but not where. Looks like it's the 'next step of our adventure' theme.

There's also a piano version of it in the ending, there may be other mixes of it in the OST too.

Oh thanks! Yeah I definitely remember it after beating Loqi/opening up the blockade to proceed further. Think I'm mixing it up with Nova Chrysalia which is an afternoon theme in Lightning Returns and def has that feeling.

Re: OG7, ok fair enough but still missing Aerith's Theme! Though I also voted Legendary Beast over Opening-Bombing Mission and chances are good Fleeting Dream over Jenova so yeah...

Man I've really gotta play Lightning Returns soonish! It's probs the easiest one for me to get next anyway tbh.

Nova Chrysalia deserved better :( At least Yusnaan is still in.

Edit: I think Fleeting v JENOVA could be a really good match actually! Several of my fav VII tracks didn't even make the contest :( I rediscovered The Chase/Crazy Motorcycle Chase while playing XV, forgot how good that one is.

The middle two matches were interesting, Celes and Long Fall were exchanging a tight lead all match and Flamenco v Medley swung all over the place, Flamenco clawed back from a 7 vote deficit to take the lead only to be overtaken again at the end by Medley. For the third day in a row we have a match end 19-18, oof! The other two matches were never in doubt, XIV has to make do with 1/3 today. Could be worse!

I moved the start time to be friendlier to most users, and each match still lasts a full 24 hours as people voted for! Not sure what else I can do >_>

Round 2 isn't even over and we're already down to a single (1) seed! Very similar matches today, all 4 were very close in the early goings, then Fish/Speed/Steppe slowly extended their lead throughout the day. Match 4 stayed tight the whole way, Antipyretic was never able to shake off Eyes entirely but it held on long enough to take the win and eliminate a second VIII track. Sorry, pyre!

XIV still has 6 tracks in contention (VIII is second with 4), but Heavensward has now been eliminated.

Sad to lose Real Emotion and Eyes on Me, but at least Ink Long Dry is gone. I don't know enough about music to explain why but listening to that song was so grating

I'll explain for those who aren't on the B8 discord. I said I didn't like Ink Long Dry (twice, over a week apart, always after its match) and apparently that act was so heinous that people were voting for it solely to own the haters, as well as mocking anyone who doesn't like it.

You can bash Real Emotion as much as you want. Just don't you dare say you don't like ILD.
