I guess someday was today. The dream fades as Big Bridge storms through another round. Retiree #2 down!

In the other match, things were tight! The lead swapped several times, and no track got more than 3 votes ahead of the other. But in the end the vocals win out and Hamauzu avoids a 0/2 beatdown, as Sunleth prevails and Shadowbringers is eliminated! Is the Extreme more vulnerable than we thought? Or will the OG Extreme show its real power now that it's not shackled down by having two versions. Time will tell!

I guess I feel less bad about Price's doubling the day before if the same fate happened with Fleeting but damn, still expected things to be closer (in both cases). Especially w/ Chaos Shrine squeaking through its first two matches.

Well, these matches weren't half as one-sided as I was expecting. Valse and OWA kept the pressure on all day, Angel was even leading The Extreme for several hours at the start! But in the end the high seeds were too strong, setting up a QF matchup of EXTREME TERROR. Was OWA a powerful opponent, or has The Extreme shown its first glimpse of slight vulnerability? Only time will tell. Good showing for the underdogs, but sadly we will see no more of VII and XV in this contest.

Division 5&6 Finals results

(7) Antipyretic - Arrange (Dissidia Arcade) - 14

Match 2 was pretty straightforward. Antipyretic had a strong start but before long Run built up momentum, and eventually ran away with it. But whew, Match 1 was something else. Ultima never held the lead once throughout the whole day, but it was nipping at Exdeath's roots the entire time. Decisive would build up a lead of 4 or 5, then Ultima would drag it back down to 1 or 0, rinse and repeat. V had just enough juice to deny Ultima a tiebreak, and become the first 16 seed to progress to the quarters (and the second FFV track to reach the final 8!).

We say goodbye to Dissidia and, remarkably, XIV today. After starting the tournament with a joint-leading 16 tracks, the beloved online game falls before the quarterfinals. A shame, honestly, XIV brought some real spice and uniqueness to the proceedings. Maybe it will be reborn in another contest.

Endwalker introduced like 10 new bangers to be honest.

I feel like if more people played XIV some of the songs would do even better, a lot of the songs are even better when context is attached.

I would be more upset with Run getting this far if I hadn't voted for it twice beforehand. Oh well.

So happy to have been introduced to Ultima by way of this contest, knew whichever lost would be rough (but would be super happy to support whoever remained! Decisive Battle my clear #1 left alive for however long that'll be...)

Agreed, I love (most of) what made it into the contest and figure there's more gems out there. I also sought out Endwalker clips and songs on youtube and I need high-quality extended loop versions of the final boss phase themes STAT, the best out there is like 15 minutes (and only like ~3 minutes of that is final phase!!!) I need one hour extended loops bad!!!

Also wonder what kind of damage the Endwalker theme could've done if it had a clean version at tiebreaker time, damn.

Antipyre having a bad showing didn't help. If they are to move off the bottom next round then Full Speed will need to win against Decisive without much trouble... we'll see!

Funniest part of the x-stats for me:

real Emotion - 34.21%
Eyes on Me - 34.10%

I wonder how high Emotion is gonna wind up in the end.

I like that

-Nova Chrysalia is the highest rated of the divisional last-place songs in xstats (and by a fair bit too)
-the two Besaids are next to each other
-Crazy Chocobo having a worse percentage than Good King Moggle Mog.... ok I don't like this one

So, fellow XIV-goers, what have we learned?

- trial fights are overdone
- dungeon music underrepresented
- open world music even less so, but the melancholy pianos seldom vote well, so nighttime themes are mostly out.

I bring this up because of some of the Endwalker offerings, and I'm definitely considering some tunes for later contests/nominations- XIV musical spoilers for zones and events.
-Vanaspati/Thavnair on Fire
-Gloomy Radz-at-Han
-Mare Lamentorum surface
-Elpis at "night"
-Research facility Ktisis or whatever the dungeon name is.
-Trial 2 music
-Ultima Thule, though it loses some impact out of game. Which sucks because it made me cry a bit during sleep deprivation.
-The victory lap medley of trial 3

I like melancholy pianos. You aren't wrong though.

I like Westward Tide a lot, wish that had made it through the TBs! But not every piano piece does as well as a Zanarkand or a Kuon I guess :(

Today had the highest votals in a while! FFX brings the people in, I guess. The matches themselves were both pretty straightforward wins for X. Not Alone was gaining ground in the back half of the day but Seymour was way too far ahead by then for its win to be under threat, and Zanarkand kept stretching its lead til the end. Sadly it is time to say goodbye to IX and to all the spinoffs, only the big boys are left now!

...And just like that, we're down to the top 8!

We have two each from V and X, two from the Lightning trilogy, and Terra and Extreme holding their own for their games. Remarkably V still has 50% of the tracks it came into the contest with! Sunleth Waterscape (Hamauzu) and Full Speed Ahead (Mizuta) are the only remaining pieces without Uematsu's involvement in composition or arrangement. And Waterscape is the only track with full vocals left!

Considering the series was Uematsu-only through 9, and through X was peak popularity/nostalgia/memories of the series, it makes sense...

Anyways, it's a solid final 8 but mostly by-the-numbers, all my favourites went out, pretty deflating. Decisive Battle is the last one I'm rooting for and it's a long shot.

Based on past performance, Clash/Extreme seems like a guaranteed semifinal and the winner of Seymour/Zanarkand also feels extremely likely to beat whoever emerges from the Decisive/Run matchup, so with one match a day a lot of the excitement's gone, just playing out the stretch... Rounds 1 and 2 were a magical time!

good results, I'm happy with them. a lot of my favorites never got past the nominating stage but I'll take these.

I understand the sentiment for sure, but you never know how things are gonna go. Even if the remainder goes as you predict, that still leaves 4 of the 7 matches up in the air!

To be clear, it might not end up in the bottom 8. It's just one of the 8 tracks that are bottom of their division, it's possible some divisions are significantly stronger than others. We'll see!
