Match 2 was tight at first but Dream took a lead fairly early and didn't look back. Bridge dominated its match, but Yusnaan can maybe take some solace in being the first track to reach double digits against it! Alas, Lightning Returns will not return this contest (but Lightning will return in the very next match!)

As a big fan of Ahead on Our Way the false hope of it keeping the match close a while before streams of pure Extreme votes was very depressing

At least I never let myself believe it would pull off the win even when it was only down by one or two votes...!

Not sure what Ill vote for in OWA/Extreme; two songs I like but dont love.

it's a hype matchup in theory but i don't think it will be all that close. i mean just look at FFV Main Theme vs Dear Friends, i definitely think Main Theme is stronger.

Easy vote for The Extreme. OWA is easily the most overrated piece of VGM anywhere. I don't love Shadowbringers, but I was pulling for it there.

Low votals today, these matches weren't bringing in the excitement. Disillusion missed their first day of the contest :( Thankfully the matches weren't close, both ran almost identically. Valse and Terra got a simultaneous 7 vote run at (almost) the start of the round, then things stayed pretty steady from there. VII Remake exits the contest here!

Well, those who thought Ultima and Decisive would have an easy ride (myself included) were mistaken! Medley and Celes followed their early round performances by keeping pace with the two for most of the day, but a voter drought in the final few hours allowed the victors to climb a few points ahead and seal their wins. V and XIV are the first two games to have two tracks into round 4, setting up a (15) v (16) seed clash!

(3) The Archylte Steppe (XIII) - 15

These matches had the lowest votals to date, but we still got clear enough victories. Archylte Steppe kept things pretty tight for a while, but ultimately both battle themes won out. XIII-2 and Dissidia Arcade keep themselves in contention, and in doing so VIII and XIII are down to a single track each!

(11) Not Alone (AKA You're Not Alone!) (IX) - 19*
(7) Melodies of Life (Eng) (IX) - 19

Our first tie since round 1! What en epic match the IX v IX battle turned out to be. Not Alone was up by 3 votes early on, then Melodies had a very strong few hours and reached a lead of 7, before Not Alone brought that back to nothing and then the two stayed within a single vote of each other for the rest of the day. Ultimately an apathetic NFUN destroyed the dreams of Melodies, and the VGMC retirees remain intact, barely!

Match 1 was close at first too, but Seymour's lead eventually got too big for Battle 3 to come back from. Goodbye, Mystic Quest!

That second half has a lot of great songs

I don't really get the appeal of Seymour though. It's good, but I think I'm missing whatever people really love about it (which I can usually see in other popular tracks I don't like as much even if I don't love them myself).

I actually think the moment is sort of dumb purely from a story standpoint and that the scene is only enjoyable because of the song. (Though in my case FF9 is one of my favorite RPG's and I don't like this part specifically)

I did vote Melodies of Life regardless, but YNA is also great and is easily one of my favorites remaining.

YNA is great but not quite one of my favorites from IX. Just going through the soundtrack I found 13 songs I like more and 6 others I like about the same, so that puts it somewhere in the 14-20th range.

I think you have some competition for this title!

I love the YNA moment but the music is half the reason that moment is so good in the first place! As for Seymour, I didn't really notice the track when playing the game but listening to it on its own it's really great. I repeat my assertion that it sounds like it should be in VIII rather than X.

Match 1 was a total blowout! Freedom becomes the first VGMC retiree to be eliminated in this contest, and Chaos Shrine becomes the third (16) seed into the sweet 16! In Match 2 Zanarkand came from 9-2 down to take the win against Limit, giving FFX a perfect round and taking it into the pole position.
