Harden and Millsap traded to Philly for Simmons, Curry, Drummond, and two first rounders

gigantic win for the nets. harden is completely washed. i'm still high on simmons, especially when he can just play the bruce brown dunker role on offense and transform the nets defense into something respectable.

He's nto completely washed. He's going to be completely washed sooner rather than later, and he has seen a small decline this year, but he's not washed right now. Russ is washed. Harden is not russ.

Harden's averaging 10 points less than his last 3 years in Houston on the worst shooting splits since his rookie year. he's washed.

He's averaging fewer points because he's taking fewer shots because he's on a team with kevin durant. His FG% is down somewhat but he is still averaging over 20/8/10. How is that washed? Washed is not "Not as good as he was" washed is "He is a mere husk of his former self." 20/8/10 is not a husk no matter how you slice it.

He IS a husk of his former self. When you share the floor with a superstar like Kevin Durant your field goal attempts will naturally go down, but your efficiency should go up, because you're getting space to take better shots (and probably aren't even being guarded by the best defender on the other team anymore). The opposite has happened to Harden, he's shooting worse than ever on better quality shots. That's a terrible sign. Kyrie last year, for example, had his PPG and efficiency both increase compared to his time in Boston.

Harden's gonna be making $47 million next year while providing maybe a third of that in value, at best. It gimps roster construction and the trade itself loses key assets for the 76ers roster over the next year. I'm extremely confident in saying that they won't even make it as far as last year's team (7th game of the 2nd round) for as long as Harden is being paid a max contract

The question is if a declining James Harden gives Philly a better chance at a title than a Ben Simmons who chokes in the playoffs. I think I'd say yes, but we'll see!

I'd argue that's a bit misleading of a way to look at it because a declining James Harden wasn't the only trade option that Philly had. It was reported for months that a deal like McCollum + first round pick for Simmons existed. So it's really more along the lines of asking whether the difference between 2022 Harden and 2022 McCollum is worth giving up 3 first round picks, Seth Curry, and Drummond. I'd say absolutely not, but I'm also not going to pretend that I'm not biased against James Harden. But we'll see!

The Nets get to retool their roster, add a little depth, recoup a draft pick and Simmons doesn't need to score on that team.

Then Philly gets someone who is actually present, while Morey gets to be reunited with his paramour.

no you're correct, morey demanded more. i'm just saying i personally think it's a huge mistake to send away so many assets for harden at this point of his career. and the playoffs will vindicate me

Not sure if either Philly or Brooklyn is the favorite to make it out of the east though, but that's less on their part and more the fact that the east just looks so much deeper now. Would it be a crazy take to say the East is just better than the west as a conference now?

East has better depth.

I would still take PHX or GS over any one the East. Suns are always going to be underrated by everyone, but its hard to argue against going 43-7 after staring out 1-3.

They have seemingly fixed their 4th quarter woes and have become a very dominant 4th quarter team.

Playoffs, anything can happen, etc. Ill see how they do against the Bucks tonight.

The draft was hilarious, especially with Charles stirring the pot. Still, the game is going to suck and will likely continue to suck in this format. They should go back to East vs West, instead of doing things to make the balance worse like having Giannis and Steph on LeBron's team, while both replacement players ended up on Durant's side.

Yeah, the ASG game isn't as fun when it's not easy vs west. Same thing when they used to do rookies vs sophomores.

I will admit the 2020 ASG was good, because it felt like there was some defense under the Elam Ending format. However, that also might have just been the emotional ties to the then recent passing of Kobe Bryant.

Spurs are expected to buy out Dragic, and the Lakers are one of the teams hoping to land him. A return to Miami isn't out of the question either.
