I've dropped valkyria chronicles and valkyria chronicles 4 before. I don't really know why, but I just do not enjoy the game play of it. I also don't like xcom which is kind of similar so I guess that style just doesn't do it for me. I remember liking the anime though. I have two friends going through FC right now and one going through SC (person playing SC played through all of Cold Steel first). The one of the FC players had a really rough time through the first few chapters and then suddenly was on Chapter 5. The game has a very slow start and FC/SC have a different kind of difficulty curve that the other games don't necessarily have. When I started the series (I started with FC) I did not talk to every single NPC between story segments. By the time I got to Cold Steel 3 I was talking to every single NPC between story segments. I'm 103 hours into CS4 (I won't be able to finish it for a while due to the new Path of Exile league). The game series is specifically made that you can talk to everyone if you want without much punishment if you don't, but by the time CS4 rolls around (I mean you're like 500+ hours in at this point, CS2/CS3/CS4 are 100+ hour games...) you're probably going to want to anyways. The pacing issues are still there. I frequently stop during transitions between "story segments" and "exploration segments" to keep the pacing. "exploration segments" are my "chores", but there are some NPCs (e.g. Anton who is in almost every game in the series) which are fun to keep tabs on. I tend to skip dialog for NPCs I don't really care much about. CS includes the Bond system which is like Social Links in Persona to add even more to this fire (you even get some unique accessories at the end of CS4). Really helps to stick with characters here you actually like. Don't feel obligated to save scum. Obviously this is easier to do while gameplay is slowed. Realist hero continues to be fun but man, it feels like every episode is 2 minutes long. Like the current episode, he ate some noodles, he talked to the old prime minister, and he ate some more noodles at a cafe. Somehow that took 22 minutes. And it's not like it felt slow while I was watching it. Good show though. Not great, but easy to watch and enjoyable enough. Sorta on topic I've been playing that new pokemon moba. Turns out even a casual moba with 10 minute matches for 8 year olds is infuriating to have bad teammates in. I say for 8 year olds but it's probably more people around my age. Kinda wish they had a single player or co-op pokemon game with this same style of combat. I've been wishing they would do that with league for ages ever since the odyssey game mode they had during an event a few years back. Now Onto some random ramblings about some of last seasons anime's: Seven deadly sins went from being a really fun series to an absolute mess and now I never want to think about it ever again, they dropped the ball so hard it went through the Earth's core Hige wo Soru was one I went into with a level of caution, the subject matter was a tricky one that I wasn't sure would be handled correctly. After finishing it however I was pleased to see that such worries were unfounded, it's an interesting watch and one I would recommend if you are looking for something quite a bit different from the norm in the anime world How not to summon a demon lord S2 was um, a complete guilty pleasure, it knows damn well what it is and embraces it, would rec so long as you close the curtains and lock the door first! (heh) Mashiro no Oto was technically my first music series (I don't really count "Your lie in April") and it was actually really good, the shamisen performances were excellent and I would happily watch more of it Shakunetsu Kabaddi ended up being a lot of fun to watch, my only complaint is that there isn't more of it tbqh It's Too Sick to Call this Love was another one where I was worried about how they'd handle the subject matter but again ended up enjoying it a lot despite the weirdness of it in general So I'm a Spider was um, quite painful to watch, even putting aside the questionable (at best) CG monsters the writing and dialogue annoyed me an awful lot, the human characters were as generic as can be and the spider really needed to shut up because damn, the jokes/gags were way too try hard for my liking. I ended up feeling disappointed by the end because the actual ideas were there, it's just the execution that was sorely lacking. Game is way harder than it was when 3.0 rolled around, which is something that GGG will never realize. Back in a league like Harbinger anyone could pull together a random build and do all content, but now you physically cannot do that and it doesn't look like they care.
