I know this doesn't really need saying, but my god is the writing in the recent parts of SAO atrocious. The writing has never been good in SAO outside of that one side story but the war in underworld is just plot hole after plot hole. In fact, saying plot hole makes it sound like theres some amount of plot that does stand up that has a hole in it, but this is just entirely hole. I feel like I usually fall on the defending side of SAO. It's not great, but the majority of it isn't that bad either. Like this season has spirit chronicles that is somewhat similar but easily worse and it's sitting above a 7 (somehow). SAO is solidly average with good production values but that does not extend to this arc, holy shit.

The production side of stuff is actually pretty good. The fights look cool visually and the OST is still pretty good but I just feel sorry for the poor animators that put in this amount of good work on something so utterly garbage. It's gone beyond being merely bad and at this point I'm just rage watching it which is not something I've done in quite some time.

It was a pretty immediate turnoff when I started watching it, not to mention that the anime felt disjointed with the way they connected events (probably because they were trying to abridge an arc?), which might be another reason why I gave up on it relatively early despite liking the arc.

I managed to finish the last season (currently) of SAO. What a shitshow. It's bad in like every catagory of writing. The science makes no sense, the characters make no sense, the fights make less than no sense. They constantly set up rules and then break them. Everyone in this universe is either a cartoon villain rapist or the nicest person to ever live. On top of all that, they ended it on cliffhanger.

Speaking only of the anime and I haven't seen the movie I'd say the first arc (aincrad) is pretty decent with a bit of an asspull ending. The 2nd arc (ALO) sucks ass. The 3rd arc (GGO) is ok, not good but watchable. The 4th arc is filler and I guess is watchable. The 5th arc (mother's rosario) is actually really good. The 6th arc (alicization) is decent with some high highs and low lows. The 7th arc (war of the underworld) is gutter trash that should be destroyed. The 8th arc (inter intelligence war) is next but I'm not sure I'll watch it. At this point I'm like 100 episodes into SAO so it feels pretty bad not to see it through and the anime says that next arc is the last one, but the 7th arc was just so freakin bad.

If I were to rate arcs It'd be like:
Mother's Rosario 9/10
Aincrad 7/10
Alicization 6/10
GGO 6/10
Filler arc 5/10
ALO 3/10
War of Underworld 0/10

Damn this weeks realist hero was over in a flash. I do like to see him using modern military convention (which is to keep moving the battlefield to throw the enemies off guard and force mistakes to capitalize on even if the show is only sorta doing that).

The animation for the fights was...well it wasn't animation, it was slideshow stills. A fairly large disappointment coming from JC Staff. Oh well, I suppose that part is not super important.

Of all of the nostalgic things I could do, I think there are two that are pretty nostalgic for me.

1. Watching new anime at night
2. Watching new anime very early in the morning.

Kanojo mo kanojo outdoes itself again. The main guy is truly a menace to society. It's fun how the show actually avoids a lot of tropes even though it's light hearted and making fun of itself. Main guy actually can tell when other people like him even if he is dumb as rocks.

To be honest I don't feel like kirito is all that bad. For an "OP" protagonist, he loses an awful lot throughout the series. The problems with the latest arc had only a little to do with him. In the previous worst arc (ALO) it's not really shit cause of kirito, it's shit cause of the villain and terrible writing.

He literally isn't though. He's arguably the 2nd best player in aincrad which is a group of like 10,000 people. I've been ranked number 1 in larger pools of players and no one is making an anime about me. Then after that game he goes on to lose, usually more than once, in every game he plays. He loses at least twice in aincrad, he loses in ALO, he loses in GGO, he loses during the mothers rosario arc (more than once IIRC), he loses several times in alicization and he's a vegetable for 80% of war of the underworld. Dude is practically the 2nd coming of ash ketchum. He is boring though but not any more boring than a lot of harem protags.

kirito def isn't demonstrated to be the best of the aincrad players but what hes good at (twitch reaction skills + waifu collection + white knight powerup) comes into play when it counts

which i mean it's always going to ofc because he's the center of the plot and everything "niche" about him will suddenly become relevant when it needs to

Also oddly, in this latest shitty arc, despite kirito getting some OP powers, the villains by far had the more ridiculous unearned power ups. Made zero sense how one dudes mid tier GGO character can somehow do...that. Was even more bullshit then kirito magically not dying in the heathcliff fight.

I really thought I'd like Jahy-sama more. The plot is basically just devil is a part timer but with a cute girl protagonist and I loved part timer but this just isn't doing it for me. It's a comedy show thats told like 2 jokes over 3 episodes that I've seen. The pacing on the comedy is soooo slow because between every damn line we have to hear Jahy's inner monologue where she explains that she is the great dark realm second in command and it's so unfair and embarrassing that she is reduced to this. Bitch I already know that, I've been watching the show the whole time and I heard you the first 20 times you thought that. Not sure if I should continue with it or not.

I have successfully 100% completed The World Ends With You: Final Remix.

All Noise reports with all drops recorded, All items collected, all pins collected and mastered, all secret reports gotten, and I managed to do the boss rush on Ultimate difficulty in around 5 minutes. Plus, I did it all in 69 hours. Nice. (technically 68hrs and 48 mins, but I'll just round it up for the meme).

I think this is the first game I truly 100 percented. All the other games I tried to this I only managed like 99% because of that extra bullshit something that requires endless amounts of grind.

Anyways, the game is still as special to me as when I first played it.

Now, in order not to completely burn out on the twewy universe, I'm playing Astral Chain next.

niche as in in the setting he is the player with the fastest reaction times, it's his main standout feature that noone except yuuki who dies right away can match

it's not particularly inventive from a storytelling standpoint, but it is something that he apparently does better than everyone else that wouldn't matter that much usually... but it's why he's given dual wielding, which grants him a noticeable edge due to others not having experience fighting it

Been watching moriarty the patriot. Currently about half way through the second season. It's not bad exactly but it's not really gripping me either. I also feel like they kind of jumped the shark in 2nd season in what had been an extremely grounded anime thus far.

I feel the show fails as a mystery anime. Whilst there clearly are mysteries, the solution is generally presented alongside the set up so theres no time for the viewer to even attempt to solve the mystery themselves. A lot of the inferences they make are also absurd.

So without mystery what even is the show? Well not action, there have been like 3-4 action scenes in 18 episodes and the action is often either off camera or ridiculous. I guess it's a political thriller? Except without the thriller part or really any political depth aside from bad rich people are bad.

Theres not really anything about the show I dislike, but theres not much that I like either. It's getting notably harder to keep watching more episodes.

I still think the only good mystery anime are hyouka and higurashi. It's a shame really, cause I quite enjoy good mysteries but I feel like anime have real trouble with both that and horror.

TIL: Rider of Black is actually a guy. I had seen some of the merch, which was literally all I knew about the character. However, today I was trying to look up something related to another servant where I didn't know the name (it was Francis Drake), but I assumed they were likely a Rider-class servant from the pirate get-up and, while I was in that section, I noticed that there are only three Rider-class servants listed (which is fucking weird). And then I clicked Rider of Black's section to see what their deal was and... yeah, wtf?

Of course, the whole Francis Drake thing was equally wtf, considering that a real historical figure who was a guy somehow got gender-swapped (and there's apparently a section about them doing shit like that, which is just silly because there *were* female pirates/privateers, and they could have just used any of them).

Oh, Fate series, you so crazy...

I've only watched F/SN so far. At some point I need to check out some of the others. (And I tried FGO, but wasn't really interested.)

Supposedly they recently patched that and also I think it unlocks same time globally for everywhere outside of japan (who already have it). It looks to release on steam right around when I'll wake up so just gotta hold on for 8 or so more hours today before going to sleep.

EDIT: Actually on the tales board seems it is working for xbox people, but not for new zealand, got to set it to japan.

they didn't patch it, either, it's just that it doesn't work for some games.

when RE8 came out, it worked then, but alternatively it didn't work for dark alliance. it depends purely on how the publisher sets it to be released

the only issue so far that i've seen is that the audio is not synced up at all. it's late.

idk if it's an issue with the game overall, or just on my end, but it's very annoying

oh, the major issue i have is the camera and field of view.

it's so close to your character that you lose around a 3rd of the screen so everything feels claustrophobic. i hope that enough people throw a fit and they patch in a way to zoom it out, there's no good excuse for it being how it is.
