Several European countries (mostly central and eastern) are currently seeing their worst infection rates since the beginning. A number of Middle East nations are in the same boat, like Jordan. Most other have at least seen a worsening of the situation since the start of February. The UK has continued to improve like the US has, in general.

So far in the US the only state that has trended back up in both cases and hospitalizations is Michigan. Though there are a number of others that are in plateau.

Nevada opened up eligibility to a very wide range of people a couple weeks ago, and there were a whole lot of young/middle aged people in line today.

Astrazeneca has been delayed or suspended in at least 5 countries now due to the possibility of it causing blood clots.

A friend of mine in Ireland got the AstraZeneca shot last week at her clinic, and shes had a nonstop headache of varying intensities for the last 5 days. Shes starting to get really nervous that shes going to have a stroke or worse.

Despite all evidence showing no departure from the standard incidence of DVT/other blood clots versus the general population and no difference seen in the UK versus DVTs found in people who have received Pfizer/BioNTech.

blood clots have been a known side effect of covid after a few weeks, it's a lingering effect. think the earliest data we had on this was back in June/July but its been consistently in news and studies. these days treatment for covid includes blood thinners for a bit, to see how legs are doing in particular.

vaccines getting looked at for the same issue means something's going on but nobody really knows what or why, just that it's a thing with potential in the way the body reacts to something like covid.

There isn't any evidence that there is an increase in blood clots over those outside the group of people getting the vaccine.

When you give millions of doses, you are going to have a % of people that get blood clots.

If you took the same millions of non-vaccinated people, you'd also have a % of people that get blood clots.

Right now the first percentage is not higher than the second.

Meanwhile Virginia has said nothing so far and is just moving to Phase 1c (other essential workers like service industries, electric workers, etc.) in just a couple of places. 1b was actually a pretty broad category of "All 65+ or 16-64 with comorbitiies" but the vaccination rate has actually slowed some in the last couple of weeks. I think Virginia should open it up to everyone no later than April 5 - 12, but even that feels too slow if vaccination rates are truly beginning to decline because of demand.

Got my first shot of Moderna a couple days ago. Mostly feels like I have a cold (runny nose + sore throat) on top of being fatigued, which is weird since those first two aren't supposed to be side effects.

I've lost weight through the pandemic, but it was about 10 pounds and it wasn't really undesired. It was just a little unexpected.

I gained a ton of weight during the pandemic. A frightening amount. Shedding it now. But, yeah, pandemic / losing job wasn't good for me.

Good luck with shedding it again! I believe it'll be that way for a lot of people since I expect the "return to normal" will represent an equally large shake up of routines that should get a lot of people back to the original habits.

For myself I was on disability for anxiety going into the pandemic so little inherently changed except that my anxiety has actually gotten a little better.

Eating at home all the time cut a lot of junk food from my diet, so I dropped 25 pounds pretty quick at the start of the pandemic. Was a bit too much and I put 10 of that back on.

AstraZeneca under fire for hiding doses and not fulfilling contracts. Possibly trying to wait out til July 2021 when they declare the pandemic over to raise prices significantly to maximize profits.

They're the one vaccine I don't want anything to do with. The other 3, hell yeah, AstraZeneca? No thanks. I hope they're still not available here by the time I get mine.

I've defended AZ/Oxford a few times because I still think it's an effective vaccine but they've done themselves zero favors in how they've handled the contracting for doing the trials and yeah, there are additional problems with their supply line.

Also at this point we're also in a situation where if you get one dose now you won't get the second until nearly the end of June because of the three month gap. I know it's from a position of privilege that I say this but that doesn't seem too appealing when I could be done with the process a lot sooner.

At least we also have Novavax's vaccine candidate coming along in May and that one seems pretty nice.

Virginia has a vague statement of opening them up to everyone "soon" but I have no idea how soon that would actually be.

As an addendum to my last post, I should say that the stockpile of AZ vaccine the US has, if it gets largely ignored here, should absolutely be donated to less affluent countries. Because it still very clearly provides protection.

Got bored and starting looking at numbers since I figured they were available right now and people continue to try to claim Florida as a COVID success story. That is year to year deaths in Florida. Keep in mind the population in Florida grew by less(In raw number) in 2020 than 2019.

They reported less than 22k deaths by COVID but have about a 31k unexpected increase in deaths.

They can both be true. I suspect there are deaths indirectly related to COVID. Potentially an increase rate of suicide or perhaps they died of other diseases which could have been prevented if they didn't avoid going to the doctor/hospital due to the fear of COVID.

Virginia is opening up eligibility to all on the 18th, which still feels pretty slow. Fortunately my health district is tracking ahead of the state in general so I could always wind up getting it before that date.

Important to note these doses were not in circulation yet, so people who just recently got it or are scheduled to get it soon aren't affected by this.

I'm not sure if it impacts any ramp up plans for states - I know MA was supposed to get a lot of extra JNJ doses soon and I'm kinda feeling like that isnt going to happen. Moderna is going to get approval to increase what they can ship soon.

I agree it's important that people not worry about existing doses but honestly I don't really know many people that are on the fence. Everyone I know is either fine with vaccines or really really really against them but that's just my circle.

Oh I meant more like if you're scheduled to get it tomorrow or something, your dose wasn't going to be from that batch.

And even if someone is normally fine with vaccines, they can still get worried if they think there's a chance the dose they're about to get could be from a bad batch.

Wisconsin opens up to all 16+ next week Monday, and I have my first Pfizer scheduled that morning. My wife just got her second shot yesterday, so there's a light at the end of the tunnel for us now.

Vaccines have opened up to everyone in my health district and they seem to be fairly regularly available from appointments from local pharmacies. I may not have to even wait for the VDH to get around to selecting me from the pre-registration list.

Feeling pretty good about things now!

I was expecting to have to snatch an appointment at a pharmacy, and have been trying to do so since the 4th, but I got contacted by the VDH yesterday.
